Fatima_miracle_of_the_sunOn 13 October, special Masses will be celebrated on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun during the final apparition of Our Lady at Fatima.

Use the combox to post about YOUR Masses!

In Madison, His Excellency Most Rev. Robert C. Morlino, the Extraordinary Ordinary, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Throne at 6 PM at St. Mary’s, Pine Bluff.

Fr. Richard Heilman is pastor of St. Mary’s and the Mass is celebrated there at his request with the assistance of the Tridentine Mass Society of the Diocese of Madison.

We hope to be able also to LIVE STREAM this Mass over the interwebs!  The equipment is in and working.

The Mass will be a 2nd Class Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in accord with Rubricae Generales of the 1962 Missale Romanum 342 & 370-372.

I am sure that in many places special Masses are being organized.

Our Pastor is offering a special Mass Friday for the 100th Anniversary. He is wearing a special Chasuble from Fatima for the Mass. Praying that Our Blessed Mother intercedes on behalf of all of those in this world who most need her intercession.

  11. 8 pm High Mass this Friday at St. Anthony of Padua, Jersey City, NJ!

Then this Saturday, a the Bishop of Paterson, NJ will be saying a Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary Form at his Cathedral at 9:30 am. It will be a Votive Mass to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and will be the first Pontifical Mass said by an NJ Bishop at his own Cathedral in decades.

  12. Marion Ancilla Mariae says:

Several eyewitnesses recounted that although Our Lady’s apparition to the three young saints was expected at noon, there was some delay in her appearance. At last Our Lady did appear and held a brief conversation with Ss. Lúcia, Jacinta, and Francisco. Further accounts of the Miracle noted that the event took place when the sun was at its zenith. Solar noon at that location, and on that date, would have been 13:21 WEST. * U.S. EDST is WEST + 4 hours; PDST is WEST + 7 hours, so it’s easy to calculate the exact time of day on which the anniversary of the Miracle falls, wherever in North America one might be this coming Friday.

    (October 13, 1917 fell on a Saturday.)

  14. giovanni_711 says:

OK, I hope I am doing this correctly.
In 2017, as in 1917, solar noon in Fatima, Portugal will be 1:21 pm or 13:21 local time, which is UTC/GMT/Zulu +1.
New York (EDT) is actually five hours behind (-5) Fatima (4 hours behind UTC) so it will be
    New York 8:21 am
    Chicago 7:21 am
    Los Angeles 5:21 am
    Please correct if wrong.

  15. Marion Ancilla Mariae says:

I believe you’re right, Giovanni 7_11. In my earlier comment, I confused + and – hours. Yours is correct. Thank you.

  16. Joe Magarac says:

Bishop David Zubik is consecrating the Diocese of Pittsburgh to Mary on October 13, 2017. There will be a charity dinner, Mass, candlelit procession, and rosary, all at the diocesan seminary.

On September 27, 2017, all the bishops in Pennsylvania consecrated the state to Our Lady of Fatima at a Mass in the Cathedral in Harrisburg (the state capital).

  17. Austin says:

Is this a votive of the Immaculate Heart? In all instances?

A pet peeve: I do wish more TLM celebrations would provide the lessons and minor propers to the congregation. So many don’t have hand missals and look bewildered. Often, aside from the usually obvious Sundays, it is not announced what mass will be said so that even those equipped with missals don’t know what mass they should be looking at. Such a simple thing to fix.

  18. albizzi says:

I recently spoke with a female friend of my wife. She is Catholic but she barely knew there were apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima in 1917. I told her about the Miracle of the sun witnessed by thousands of people on Oct 13th 1917 after our Lady had foretold it one month beforehand. She promised to search on the Web what exactly happened this year in Fatima.
Some weeks later I met her again: She was almost outraged that I had drawn her on the Fatima issue and she asked me never to speak about it again.
She said that she didn’t believe anything of these apparitions though I warned that they were approved by the Church.
Indeed she has been modernist shaped since VATII and she shut her ears to all what may be supernatural.
Let’s pray for her and all people alike on next Friday 13th so that the Holy Spirit might open their hearts to the Voice of our Lady, Her divine Spouse.

  19. giovanni_711 says:

If Father Z will indulge me, I am showing solar noon for Fatima both historically for October 13, 1917 and for Friday October 13 2017 as 1:20 or 13:20 from several internet charts. Interestingly, Portugal had adopted daylight savings only the year before, and apparently in 1917 it ended on October 14. What significance heaven puts on the the 100th anniversary (100 spins of our earth around the star know as the sun) I don’t know, but I am going to try to get to confession before then, :)

  20. irishromancatholic says:

Very blessed to actually be in Fatima today. A piece commissioned for the anniversary by James MacMillan is having its world premier this evening.

[GREAT! A MacMillan piece. That should be excellent. May I ask a prayer? I am ill and I must run a Pontifical Mass tonight.]

Saints Cyril and Methodius, Bridgeport, Conn. had low Mass 7:45 this morning. Bishop Caggiano has just entrusted the parish to the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

  24. bobbird says:

At Our Lady of the Angels parish in Kenai, Alaska, where Modernism, liturgical abuse and an embarrassment of Christ Crucified and the Blessed Sacrament reigns supreme with ecclesiastic leadership and episcopal sanction, a Rosary was said by about 15-20 faithful, led by a young man, a convert (naturally) who is discerning a religious vocation. There will be a public witness on the street corner tomorrow and I will highlight Fatima on my radio show at 3:05 PM Alaska Time. Go to http://www.radiokenai.com and click on “KSRM” among the 5 stations.

Austin: “A pet peeve: I do wish more TLM celebrations would provide the lessons and minor propers to the congregation.”

Apparently yours does not, but I’d assume that most TLM communities would post something like the announcement below in advance of each Sunday or holy day Mass, and provide propers leaflets at the Mass itself.

  27. Discerning Altar Boy says:

At the Catholic Center at the University of Rhode Island,a votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was offered by our humble chaplain. We suggested it to him yesterday, and he, an orthodox Traditionalist, graciously accepted the suggestion. We used the official Collection of Marian Masses and it’s accompanying Lectionary.

  28. In Ville Marie, His Grace Archbishop Christian Lepine did Dedicate the Cathedral Church of Our Lady Queen of the World and St James the Great.

  29. tradition4all says:

In his homily, His Excellency spoke of how fitting it was that the Mass was offered “ad orientem,” toward the rising sun of justice (i.e. Our Lord). On the literal level, there was some irony here; the apse of St. Mary of Pine Bluff is in the west, so literally speaking, the Mass was offered “ad occidentem.” Just a funny observation.

  30. RememberLepanto says:

Cathedral of St. Paul- Archbishop celebrated a special Mass (standing room only, the priests almost ran out of hosts, they were breaking them in half at the end.) with probably 3500 to 4000 in attendance.

Then there was a procession from the Capitol to the Cathedral with 4,000 to 5,000. The procession stretched all the way from the Cathedral to the Capitol.

I took lots of photos and videos. It was beautiful and the rosary was said through massive loud speakers at the Cathedral and the Capitol so the rosary basically blanketed downtown and the surrounding areas of St. Paul. I’ve NEVER seen that many people at the Cathedral. Truly. Ave Maria!
