I am running out of words for what we are seeing. It is apostasy on a grand scale, and scandal by these destroyers all the way to the top.
We are grateful to the network, Raymond Arroyo, and certainly Fr. Gerald Murray. Fr. Murray is a light shining in the darkness. I am almost afraid to thank anyone, sometimes it seems a dog whistle.
The level of evil the dissenters have in their hearts, and their zeal for sin and destruction, seems to know no bounds. They are growing more brazen by the day, and their true hearts and diabolical goals are being revealed. If we are paying attention, we can see who they follow, and it is not Christ. We should be trying to wake up as many Catholics as we can.
Lord, come to our aid, make haste to help us. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.
I’m very thankful that EWTN and Father Murray are acting as the voice of orthodoxy in the midst of confusion. If I can use the term, ‘Papolatry’ is still out there and whilst I won’t mention any names, there are many influential sites out there who still rush to the Pope’s defence on every single issue, and that’s what I think is contributing to even more confusion. Even the Pope is bound by his predecessors, scripture and tradition.
It was an outstanding conversation. It should be what is coming forth from every pulpit, every chancery in the world. Tragically it is not, and that leads me to believe we won’t be gifted with such consolation much longer.
God reward, Father Murray, and hide in the shelter of His wings.
Fr. Murray says that adultery is always a mortal sin. But if I understand correctly, in order for a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be met: The matter must be grave (this will always be the case with adultery), the sinner must have full knowledge that his act is mortally sinful (considering the present confusion in teaching, this might no longer be the case) and the sinner must act with deliberate consent. This last condition seems a pretty big loophole: If the hormones take over, “deliberation” might be lacking. (see “Catechism of the Catholic Church”, 1859)
To cite the catechism regarding a different sin, which is also “materia gravis” (masturbation):
“To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.”
(see “Catechism of the Catholic Church”, 2352)
I still believe the unbroken tradition of the church of not admitting adulterers (or masturbators) to Holy Communion without a valid confession stands for itself, but arguing that every adultery is a mortal sin might be an overreach.
[I reached out to Fr. Murray about this. He responded: “He fails to distinguish between the objective quality of adultery as mortally sinful and the subjective guilt incurred when committing such an act.” I will add that he fails to make a distinction between sins which are hidden (e.g., masturbation) and sins that are public (e.g. civil “re-marriage” and consequent adultery. My impression is that the writer is trying to find a loophole to permit sins.]
I tuned in Thursday evening when this show aired. It was an excellent show (as always) and I sent Mr. Arroyo a note telling him so via his personal website. I always appreciate Fr. Murray’s comments. (and Mr. Royal’s when he is on)

Father Murray may never be made a monsignor, but his reward in heaven will be glorious. I shudder to consider what will become of the architects of the “new paradigm” on Judgement Day.

Kathleen10 said it so eloquently. I am grateful too for the clear speaking of Fr. Murray. The voices in favor of the teaching of the Catholic Church, handed down from Christ through His apostles and His Church, are not heard as much as they need to be heard. Thank you for sharing this video Fr. Z! Our beloved Church is filled with Catholics ripe for apostasy because they are ignorant of the teachings and so open to whatever they are told. My biggest shock when I entered the Church a couple decades ago or so was that nobody I met had read Humane Vitae. They thought all sorts of things that were wrong and it was like they had blinders on, preferring to think themselves following Church teaching without ever actually reading anything that spelled out Church teaching. Now I find the atmosphere of self satisfied indifference is giving way to an atmosphere of hostility toward anyone who dares to mention actual documents that are actually clear and unambiguous. It is heart-breaking.

@SebastianHvD: Further to the link posted above: essentially, once one has been exposed to the clearly objective nature of defined adultery (as made clear by God in the universal condemnation of such sins in the 6th and 9th Commandments), AND the teaching of Christ Himself that even lust for one who is not one’s wife is already adultery, cannot be said to be innocent of grave sin.
Perhaps the degree of malice in such sins may be diminished, but the sin is still a mortal offense against the laws of God due to the matter, and is imputable due to the knowledge of the sinner as to the objective nature of adultery.
But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye scandalize thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee. For it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than that thy whole body be cast into hell.30 And if thy right hand scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than that thy whole body be cast into hell.
My thoughts exactly Benedict Joseph. The sheep are scattered, their wool in bloody clumps, the wounds often inflicted by the shepherds themselves.
Father Murray is remarkably learned and lucid and a lover of Christ’s teachings and Church treasures—God keep him. Wonder what his archbishop, who sidles up cozily to the gay agenda (ie: they will be allowed to fly their rainbow flag in the St Patrick’s Day parade!) thinks of him.
