    This is painfully too true.

Fr. Z it’s been so discouraging seeing what has been happening in our nation in the last few weeks.
I was inert, but rather than just give up and give in I’ve made a decision that every single day I will do something to help, even if it’s just an email or a phone call. Last week I made cookies for troopers and 2 local police stations, with a thank you note and St. Michael medals attached. I showed my ID at each police station so they knew where the cookies came from. One of the officers told me a few things. He said he trains officers, and no one has used or learned about a choke-hold in 20 years. No one uses it. He said if officers know where donated items like cookies come from, they’ll eat it. If not, they won’t. He said religious objects like medals disappear instantly, the officers will scoop them right up and carry them. St. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, so his cards and medals are wanted. Imagine giving an officer a card or medal they carry with them while they put their lives on the line for us. They all appreciated the support.
I also called two Republican senators office, Sen. Lankford and Sen. Johnson, who co-sponsored a bill last week to remove Columbus Day from the list of federal holidays and replace it with Juneteenth. Imagine that, two Republicans. This is the problem.
Fr. Z if we aren’t part of the solution we’re part of the problem. We have the numbers and can’t get sidelined by giving up. That’s not American! We can actually win this. We need to screw up our courage and resolve to do something to help every single day, write an email, make a phone call, talk to others, etc.
It’s our country to keep or lose.
There’s perhaps no better place people can be heard right now than local schools. You can’t imagine what these people are going to be teaching our children this fall. Every single American needs to get involved at the local level before this fall and find out what children are going to be taught and by whom. The 1619 Project is in some schools, and it’s as full of lies and subversive as it gets. It is called 1619 because these people are going to teach America started with slaves and go from there. As we all know by now, education is a big problem and has churned out Marxists. Imagine how bad it will be starting now. Parents, grandparents, taxpayers, have every right to know and to let their school boards and administrators know they are watching.
    Get going Americans.

I use to tell people that we live in strange times; but, not any more. Now I say that we live in bazaar times, both in our secular world and our religious world. Historians (when they get a less Left-wing biases, are going to have a field day trying to figure out how and why in this time; the level of “common sense” has decreased for the first time in human history?????? Satan is having a glorious time; if he is capable of “enjoying” it.

  5. Antonin says:

#1 Accessibility to guns increases the probability that you will have gun violence. This is simple math. So reducing accessibility will reduce gun violence – again simple math.

Yes there will always be people with distorted thinking who will seize on any ideology religious or not to advance a violent end. But, at the same time, if these people have access to lethal means, then the likelihood or harm increases. Simple math And probabilities. [It is not simple. This is ridiculous. Only the lawless will have guns.]

You can make the libertarian argument about personal responsibility and no external regulation …but that argument cuts both ways for drugs and all manner of vices

    # 2 is indeed a good point and I support a guaranteed annual income. Politicians can never give the excuse that there isn’t enough money as they literally created a trillion dollars our thin air – literally! [no. MONEY was not created… Nothing was created except vapor, backed with nothing having real value.]

We should promote civility and manners in society. Deliberately agitating or trolling groups or people is undignified

  6. wmeyer says:

Actually, what government created was inflation. Part of it through checks to the people, and part through the inevitable pork with which the bill was saddled.
Unbudgeted spending, spending for which no funds exist, is the very worst sort of taxation, because the inflation created is felt most heavily by the poorest among us.
Economist Art Laffer made the suggestion that a better approach would have been the suspension of payroll taxes. Minimal cost for legislation, no cost for preparing millions of checks, and immediate benefits to all workers. But of course, that would have offered no carrier for pork, which is Washington’s stock in trade.

    “We can actually win this.”

    Excellent.
