Who is funding the violence?

From Lepanto Institute:

Violence Erupts as More Catholic-Funded Groups call for Defunding of Police

This June witnessed a massive explosion in violent crimes in major urban areas such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City, each of which bowed to major pressure from revolutionary organizations to defund or outright abolish their police departments. Since the Fourth of July Weekend alone, hundreds of people have been shot and dozens killed. One victim was an 8 year old girl who was murdered in front of her mother by Black Lives Matter protesters. Her death was a direct result of the diminished police presence brought about by the demands of organizations receiving Catholic funding by the US Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) through its Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

Does CCHD only receive funds via the special collection, or do the dioceses fund them out of parish “assessments” as well? A special collection is easy to skip, the other means not contributing to at least the general fund of the parish?

“I’m shocked, SHOCKED, to find that gambling is going on here . . .”

  3. Suburbanbanshee says:

It turns out that St. Stephen’s Church in Chattanooga had their outdoor Blessed Mother’s statue beheaded, and the head stolen. Also on July 11.

I believe there are assessments that go to the USCCB, to which the CCHD belongs. I earmark all my parish donations in hopes that zero dollars go to the USCCB.

Video from the Archdiocese of Orlando about the attack on Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala.

The title is “The Question Today Is, Where Is the Good News?”

Money quote: “Evil never attacks evil. So I take it as a sign that we’re doing the right thing here.”

What a great pastoral step! But I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done before. Both the pastor and the archbishop speak. And even as damaged as it is, that church is beautiful. And it feels full of love, even through the computer screen.

What a blessing that all the relics were undamaged!

(Also, a beautiful Irish accent. The nart’ex… Love it! The pastor’s Irish accent even takes over Archbishop Noonan… codeswitching is so awesome!)

  6. JustaSinner says:

Shocked! Shocked I say! I can’t believe SJWs funded by Catholic donations would be used by Marxist proto-communists to radically change American Society. Next thing you’ll report is that Catholic Charities supports illegal immigration, funds pro-abortion groups and seeks to destroy the Rites of the Church.

  7. xavier says:

    Fayher:

Well if the Bishop’s conference is inadvertently funding the violence then it should immediately cut off funding and go to court to recover the money already spent on moral turpitude and other contractual law articles.

In my diocese there is an annual collection, complete with a letter from our bishop in our diocesan newspaper asking for contributions. I haven’t answered this appeal in a long time…

A question: do the people at the USCCB who decide what organizations receive CCHD funds, considering that money is fungible, thus pledges of no improper use are worthless, incur guilt when these organizations commit sinful acts?

  9. Sportsfan says:

I have put an acorn in the CCHD collection basket the last eight years.I kind of regret that now. They probably took them and shot them with sling shots at the police.
    No more acorns from me.

  10. rollingrj says:

Defund the CCHD. How many programs have they funded which are contradictory to Catholic teaching?

  11. Kathleen10 says:

Catholics are just simply way behind the curve on this type of thing. Catholics think it’s bad?
It’s a whole lot worse than they think. But as long as Catholics keep going along with things so they can do the thing on Sunday, that’s what counts. Whether or not they are supporting and funding a false church, ah, what does that matter. What difference does it make. Catholics have to keep giving! They need to give or they will go to Heeeellllll…because the Church is always right, or something.
So on it goes, with no end in sight, because we don’t care what we support, true, false, faithful, heretical, diabolical, it’s all the same to many Catholics. Anyway Cardinal Dolan smiles and laughs a lot, so everything must be fine.
This church is turning me into a real prune.

  14. WVC says:

How about we Defund the USCCB instead? Make each bishop go back to taking full responsibility for his own diocese and his own sheep, and get rid of the pointless bureaucracy!

  15. Ellen says:

I don’t give to the bishops. I give to my local parish and to an order of priests who are as holy and orthodox as they come.

  16. mwa says:

Jomc, there is a list of grantees for each of the past 15 years on the usccb website

  17. hwriggles4 says:

For years, I have been one of those who puts a short handwritten note in the collection basket explaining why I skip the collection for the CCHD and when I teach CCD, I have been able to pretend forgetting distributing the operation rice bowl collection items to the kids during Lent. (I ceased donating years ago to Catholic Relief Services).

As for a note in the collection basket, I make it tactful, but even if it ends up in File 13, at least someone looked at it.

  18. jomc says:

Thanks I would like to go look at that

Good work Lepanto Institute. Defund the CCHD, also known as the Catholic Campaign to Help Democrats.

Some Catholics, rather than donate to the frequently murky goings-on at CCHD and other such groups, hand an envelope of cash to a known and trusted clergy, religious or laity who put it directly to good use here or overseas.

CCHD has provided grants to several Alinsky-ite groups, ACORN and others:

Are the faithful aware of the differences between sound Catholic doctrine and Marxist ideologies? Are these happenings a fulfillment of Fatima as well as Garabandal warnings?

Consider the following lines and imagine the future that awaits behind such actions. Please pray for conversion and deliverance!

It appears that communist Liberation Theology has infiltrated Church organizations, twisting and corrupting Catholic doctrine into Marxist secular humanism. In its website the CCDH mission statement reads “working to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ “… to bring glad tidings to the poor … liberty to captives … sight to the blind, and let the oppressed go free.” (Luke 4:18) This citation is twisted in its implementation for it reduces the whole development of the human person into a merely materialistic reality. Thus, the 2020 CCDH highlighted investments in progress lists: Environmental Justice, Justice for Immigrants, Increasing Community organizations, Social Teaching, Fight Poverty, Cardinal Bernardin Leadership. Which ends and activities do not resemble Catholic gospel teachings, true universal Church and Eucharistic communion but Saul Alinsky’s Marxist community organizing rules and communist networks. For, where is the call to respect the place, nature, purpose and perfections of God’s Creation? including the complementarity and correspondence between creatures acknowledging the Holy Trinity divine relationship? and human life and dignity “for in His image and likeness”, “man and woman He created them” ? where is the call to praise, worship and follow the Divine Author’ plan? To learn and appreciate the real model for each thing? To seek the infinite gifts and graces? Imagine the sun as a dead painting, no heat, no light. The human person as a death android with no mind, no heart, no will. For without God’s Word there is no live, no meaning, no living reality

Similarly, the 101 pages Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force recommendations published July 7 parallels such twisted Liberation Theology Marxist schema . Are we confronting the makings of communist America with this massive infiltration impacting half of the political body, corrupting the soul of America ?

Every page advertises a workers utopia, presenting new dimensions of rights and justice to end poverty, barriers, prisons and cultural standards, offering a free life for workers dedicated to deconstruct America’s reality. The first priority is Climate change – that is the enactment of Environmental Justice to dismantle industries- followed by Criminal Justice – to dismantle police and prison system, followed with the deconstruction of Economy, Education, Health Care and Immigration. Its radical recommendations are wish lists enacted thru totalitarian surveillance, regulations, controls, convictions and multiple taxes.

Imagine no police, no army, no security prisons, no private schools, no private property restrictions, no country borders. The Government establishing high speed surveillance for all population, virus contact tracers, health workers, social workers, school renovators, drug counselors, planned parenthood workers, community organizers, to get all population “integrated” together and under control (remember Chicago?).

Imagine the American known ways of life replaced by 5 million federal workers driving 3 million green cars and 500,000 green buses. All LGTBQ, blacks and other minorities, new immigrants, convicts and illegals having first priority for “integration” in refurbished diverse inclusive communities, which objective is to end housing and racist privileges. People working in “new” green jobs to refurbish “old” homes into communal green buildings, planting 6 billion trees and developing “new” green technologies in collaboration with China – among others. All this under the main objective to stop climate change “ to achieve Zero carbon gas emissions” (dismantling all related industries, facilities and known ways of life) in 10 to 30 years maximum.

Imagine that… Our Lady pray for us!

hwriggles4: Good point regarding not donating to Catholic Relief Services. There are numerous problematic “Catholic” organizations such as NCR (the “Fishwrap”), CNA, Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good. The last two are left-wing activist “Catholic Spring” groups.
