“If people knew the value of the Mass, there would be policemen at the door to regulate access to the Church, every time that Mass is celebrated!”
~ St Padre Pio
Oh please I hope Mark Shea sees this. On his Facebook he has been obsessively celebrating the motu proprio and viciously attacking Catholics who attend the TLM. One of his lines of attack is his claim that the TLM is growing because of “white flight” by conservative racists who can’t stand seeing minorities in Novus Ordo parishes.
He’s written about it several times. A taste;
“The TLM is a boutique fetish for whites, the bulk of whom think MAGA is saving them from the browns.”
May Shea see this and repent.
Shea has gone from ten years ago likening good liturgy to a “comfortable pair of shoes” and admitting he doesn’t get the TLM to outright calumny and hatred against traditional Catholics.
Shame on you, Mark — and I know you’re reading this.
“The faithful advance one or, better, two at a time and receive standing, without genuflection before or after. Such a procedure does much to encourage the idea that communion is a meal being shared, rather than the private devotion of individuals who happen to be attending the same Mass.” (Priest’s Guide [1964], p. 66)
^Sheesh, they didn’t understand the massive effect of these ‘sweeping reforms’ orchestrated by themselves even before the Council that they hope would ‘reinvigorate’ the Faith.
Who is Mark Shea?
Giggling at Mark Shea’s comments because at our local TLM I was often the only white face in the church or chapel (before covid shut everything down).

What a beautiful picture!
@JT Mark Shea is a former writer for EWTN. He used to be a pretty good apologetist and Catholic blogger, but it seems that he’s moved away from his politically moderate stances and is letting his rage and hatred for conservatives and traditionalists (or in his word, “MAGA death cultists”, because that’s apparently how he sees us) get the better of him.
I used to be a regular reader of his, and he was instrumental in my starting to take my faith more seriously in my youth. I’d appreciate it if you kept him in your prayers.
Awesome photo! Beautiful! A humbling and inspiring reminder for all.
It’s better not to talk about Shea at all.
“But Jesus said to them: Suffer the little children, and forbid them not to come to me: for the kingdom of heaven is for such.” – Matthew 19:14
