Because Scott Hahn has recently been attacked by a fanatic, I recommend that you get one of Scott’s books and also a book from the publishing concern connected to the St. Paul Center, Emmaus Press.

A good choice for the first is

Holy Is His Name: The Transforming Power of God’s Holiness in Scripture

It has a forward by Peter Kreeft.  That’s a really good sign in itself.     The book explores what “holiness” is.  We often talk about holiness.  But what is it?

If you already have that book, try It Is Right and Just: Why the Future of Civilization Depends on True Religion

I was so pleased to see in it an emphasis on the virtue of Religion, which for years I have been writing and talking about in terms of the renewal of our sacred liturgical worship.

Next, an important book.  This book is the nightmare of libs and the yammering papalatrous like the fanatic who is attacking Scott.

The Faith Once For All Delivered: Doctrinal Authority in Catholic Theology

US HERE – UK HERE

This is a daring selection of essays by prominent orthodox Catholic scholars recently published by Emmaus Academic Press.

The book includes a Foreword and Introduction written by Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, and an Afterword authored by Robert Cardinal Sarah. It is edited by Father Kevin Flannery, SJ and one other person who remained anonymous.

Every bishop should be tied to a chair and required to follow the text while someone reads aloud the essay by Robert Dodaro on sensus and consensus fidelium, what the terms really mean contrary to the notion of popular polling, etc.

Lastly go to Crisis and listen, perhaps more than once, to the podcast interview by editor Eric Sammons with Scott Hahn.

HERE

These are hard and dark times and I suspect we feel their weight.   I found this podcast super uplifting, positive, optimistic while remaining timely and realistic.  By the time you get a few minutes into it you might even be doing fist pumps in the air and sending the link to your friends. Kudos to Eric Sammons for not interrupting Scott.

Scott Hahn is a blessing to the Church.

  2. mo7 says:

Attacking Scott Hahn a former protestant, who has educated everyone in my non-catechized generation, for being against the pope can only be thought of attention getting. Whoever you are out there, you’re still nobody.

    What kind of attack?

  4. Charles E Flynn says:

The premise of Scott Hahn’s book, that we are unlikely to have a deep understanding of the meaning of the word “holy”, is insightful.

Adults who teach the Catholic faith to children, in my experience, seem to assume that we learn the meaning of words by osmosis with acceptable precision. That may work for everyday words, but does not seem to work well enough for words such as “sacred”, “sacrifice”, “sanctify”, “blessed”, “repent”, and “forgive”.

Even in a secular endeavor, such as computer tech support, having a deep understanding of the basics provides more benefit in the long run than learning a lot of arcane trivia.

  6. Cornelius says:

He was attacked for being insufficiently obsequious to the Francis Revolution.

If the defense is that he actually IS obsequious to the Francis Revolution, then that hardly recommends him.

I found the article attacking Hahn. As soon as the writer said an orthodox bishop engaged in “conspiracy theories” (properly read: a critical thinker), all said writer’s credibility proved to be non-existent.

Put another way, I suspect the writer might have taken “Honorius” as a confirmation name.

  8. johntenor says:

The only thing Scott Hahn is guilty of in his writing is a disordered attachment to bad puns.

  9. JMody says:

Mr. Hahn is a prolific writer and after the furor around his “Holy Spirit is feminine” foray, has probably tightened up his orthodoxy even more. My bet is either someone is still steamed about the Holy Spirit thing (what is that, ten or twelve years now?) or they have learned that “orthodox” and “theologian” are bad things to be opposed. I wonder where they got that idea?

  10. jpmanning70 says:

Dr. Hahn is the reason why I have a great love of Scripture. He’s probably done more than anyone to push back against the secularist/modernist implementation of “critical theory.”

  11. Lurker 59 says:

As a student of Dr. Hahn, as well as a convert to Catholicism who read plenty of his works during the period, it is truly an embarrassment for anyone to attack Dr. Hahn’s orthodoxy and fidelity to the Catholic Faith.

Now while in the field of orthodox theology, there can be legitimate disagreements between different schools of thought, it is not really possible to describe Dr. Hahn as anything other than a plumb line in regards to contemporary Catholic theology who is outstanding in both popular appologetics and advancing the field of Catholic theological study.

As a note; having found the article in question, I had a good chuckle about how Dr. Hahn isn’t engaged by the Protestant world. One of my friends went to RTS Seminary — with the courses that I helped my friend with, it was pretty much wall-to-wall using Dr. Hahn as the chief interlocular for Catholic Theology.
