Daily Rome Shot 1197 – Another note to donors

Another angle from the wonderful nativity scene at The Parish™ in Rome, Santissima Trinità del Pellegrini.  Terrific.

A NOTE TO DONORS / BENEFACTORS:

If you are using CONTINUE TO GIVE to send donations, please contact me.  I really want to end my relationship with them (fees… clunky… complicated).  Please help me out.  Drop me a note?   Reply to one of my thank you notes or use this link HERE.

This is interesting… in churchy news…

What do you think of it?

Please remember me when Christmas shopping online and use my affiliate links.  US HEREWHY?  This helps to pay for health insurance (massively hiked for this new year of surprises), utilities, groceries, etc..  At no extra cost, you provide help for which I am grateful.

Oh dear… the bloated bureaucracy is running out of dosh? What a shame! Maybe it’s time to go back to the basics?

Eucharistic miracles… Hosts are truly flesh, the blood is AB… HERE

Chris Wray, the Director of the FBI, which harassed Catholics has resigned.  HERE

Meanwhile, I saw that there is a Nativity scene at the US Capitol for the FIRST TIME.

This is out of this world.  The Mars Rover reached another goal.  The rim of Jezero Crater.  It took 3.5 months of 1,640 feet (500 m) of vertical climb. HERE

In chessy news… BIG NEWS…. HERE

The sisters’ shop is only open for a couple more days. Great stuff! My mother approves.

  1. WHITE (not Black) to move and mate in…? It’s not 2 or 3 or 4…

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

Gukesh prevailed. He is now the official “World Champion”. Yes, Magnus was available for comment. I feel badly for Ding, but I suspect he is relieved. It’s been a rollercoaster for him, who clearly doesn’t like rollercoasters. Gukesh will now enter superstar status in India, which I imagine is going bananas.

The cardinal website is interesting. I am struck that there are no cardinals identified as members of the Order of Saint Benedict. Is that historically unusual? There are Jesuits, Dominicans, and Franciscans, and others.

I hope you have the opportunity to visit Rome, specifically The Parish(TM), for Advent and Christmas someday soon. I miss the daily posts from your Roman sojourn.

I second Fr. Z’s mother’s approval of Seignadou Soaps. The Dominican nuns make fantastic cream, soap, and lip balm. Buy from them!

“Two Years After Restricting the Traditional Latin Mass, the Archdiocese of Washington Finds Itself In Serious Financial Trouble.”

A couple of sanitized thoughts: 1) Go woke, go broke, and 2) Fool around and find out.

    @dholwell:
Bl. Ildefonso Schuster OSB and Basil Hume OSB immediately come to mind, but it seems there haven’t been any creations of Benedictine Cardinals for a very long time.

  6. A.S. Haley says:

Father Z, unless White makes a foolish mistake — e.g., allowing Black to play Qd1++ after he takes White’s Queen and clears the d-file before White frees his Rook — I don’t see any mate here in less than, say, 20 moves or so, after Black achieves overwhelming material superiority. But maybe that is your point.

  7. My bad. WHITE’s play.

    1. Ne5+ Ke6
    2. Qf7+ Kf5
    3. g4#

    2…. Kd6
    3. Nc4#

    1. Ne5+ Ke7
    2. Qf7+ Kd6
    3. Nc4#

  8. Charivari Rob says:

Dholwell, could it be that Benedictines tend to be of a place and don’t move around a lot? Not that one wouldn’t answer the summons if called upon, but maybe that means they attract a little less attention?

    As for the site …
They could do better with background facts, like current status. Catholic-hierarchy site updates daily. This page – I looked up one Cardinal who resigned months ago and successor installed weeks ago. No mention of that change.
