There’s this. BTW… this is NOT the easiest dish to prepare.

And…

In chessy news…

Arjun Erigaisi has surpassed at #4 Fabiano Caruana now #5 in the FIDE ratings.  Magnus (2837) is still #1 and Hikaru (2804) #2 and Gukesh #3 (official champ).

White’s move. Mate in 2.  CRAZY!  Can you find it in 1 minute?  2?  3?

Get great beer and help traditional monks at the same time.

As much as I love the billboard, 99% of people won’t understand it.

I think that there needs to be a nationwide Catholic billboard campaign that highlights a simple fact of Catechesis or history (e.g. “The only Church founded by Jesus Christ is the Catholic Church,” and then an invitation to seek out your local Catholic church. Provide a website on it that people can go to to learn more about the Faith.

Billboards are an untapped method of evangelization, but simply putting messages like the one above (or a popular one of the Divine Mercy image that you see all over Kansas) doesn’t necessarily point people to the Catholic Faith. There needs to be an azimuth to point people in the right direction.

The RCIA classes at one of my former parishes had huge growth with a sign out front that said “Learn More About the Catholic Faith. One Hour Classes. Call ###-###-#### for more information.” They took down the sign years ago, and inquiries to learn about the faith nearly evaporated.

It took me a while to realize that several other plans wouldn’t work. Then after about 10 minutes, I saw how this would do it.

Maybe it’s not a bad thing that a billboard makes you think, rather than just being a message that you get right away and then dismiss.

I remember before I became a practicing Catholic (or even Christian) I used to drive by a little church with a sign reading “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures”. It used to bother me, why does Christ die and why is that for our sins? It wasn’t until 10 years later that it began to make sense. But I feel that was a seed that was planted.

By the way Holy Ghost Church is an FSSP parish located in Bethlehem PA in the Diocese of Allentown. The parish outgrew its original church St. Stephen of Hungary in Allentown and moved most masses to the larger Holy Ghost Church a beautiful building built by German immigrants in the 19th century. One may read more about this church’s history here:

Carbonara! When I was studying in Rome many years ago, I first ordered it at one of the touristy places in the Piazza Navona. Mistake! Gloppy and gluey by the time it reached my table. I soon learned to order at smaller out-of-way places. Creamy and delicious! I’ve gotten pretty good at making it myself, but it wasn’t easy. Timing and taking it off and on the heat. I can get the eggs to be thickened and creamy without scrambling them. Serve immediately.

    Correction.

The suggestion for the first move above was a typo. It wouldn’t work, nor even make sense. It should have been,

  6. That Nh8# is really fun.
