Too many people today are without good, strong preaching, to the detriment of all. Share the good stuff.
Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Mass of obligation for this 17th Sunday after Pentecost, the 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the Novus Ordo.
Tell about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass.
Any local changes or (hopefully good) news?

If you will forgive a final digression, Archbishop Marco Antonio de Dominis (1560–1624) started out as a Jesuit. While remaining a believer in the Catholic Church he became convinced that the papacy was leading people astray. Disillusioned by curial politics and the Venetian–Habsburg struggle, he broke with Rome in 1616 and went to England, welcomed by James I. He abjured papal obedience and was made Dean of Windsor. In London he issued De republica ecclesiastica (1617–19), a conciliarist critique of papal primacy. As a naturalist he also offered an early explanation of the rainbow in De radiis visus et lucis. Hmmm… rainbow… Jesuit…. Eventually, he sought reconciliation with the Pope in 1622 and Gregory XV gave him a pension. But Gregory died, the pension ceased, and the irritated prelate relapsed. He was imprisoned by the Inquisition and died in Castel Sant’Angelo in 1624. A trial was held for his corpse in the Dominican Church Santa Maria sopra Minerva. The Inquisition ordered his body to be taken from the coffin, dragged through the streets of Rome, and publicly burned with his books in the Campo de’ Fiori about five minutes from where I type. That’s where my vegetable vendor, butcher and bakery are, along with my favorite evening cocktail place directly across from the statue of another heretic who got himself burned, the weird Giordano Bruno. Just a brief reminder about the Church’s perennial teaching on capital punishment.

We were in DC for a wedding this weekend so we attended the TLM at one of the “final four” parishes in the Diocese of Arlington that are allowed to celebrate the Mass in the parish church (as opposed to a gymnasium or other catacomb)… the info blackout would have warmed the heart of “Uncle Arfur” – if he has one – as all traces of the TLM have been eradicated from the parish bulletin and website. An astute observer might have wondered why a thriving parish would have a three-hour gap in the (published) Sunday morning Mass schedule! The whole Trad. Perditores thing is just a farce.
The church was packed, well over 400 souls and dozens of babies and toddlers – my daughter counted twenty in our immediate vicinity. Just seemed… normal! Talked to a few folks afterward and many had discovered the TLM… during the PANdemIC!
Mass was the feast of the Holy Rosary as an external solemnity, the homilist briefly explained the origin of the feast and the power of the Rosary and implores everyone to to say it daily. He pivoted to a brief discussion of an upcoming capital campaign and explained how many people could indeed give a full tithe, and closed on a humorous note, remarking that “love of money is the root of all evil, so better to give it to us than be tempted by sin!”
Oh he also mentioned that there would be increased security measures enacted in and around the church… upon exiting we observed two police cruisers conspicuously parked at the curb, with the officers standing nearby chatting with folks… perhaps they were just there to direct traffic…
One addendum: we spent Sunday afternoon with some friends out Front Royal way… “their” TLM was one of the ones that got exiled but even so it is likewise packed despite the “non-parochial” venue. They had an interesting comment: “The TLM has really become mainstream (in the Diocese of Arlington)… even with the restrictions nobody bats an eye anymore when you tell them that’s where you go!” Can I rant again about the sheer nonsensical aspect of TC and all of this wasted time and money because the Church – THE CHURCH! – is actively trying to prevent devout and pious souls – can we say “normal people” – from GOING TO MASS! What on earth is Pope Leo waiting for? This ridiculous situation needs to end!
