I’m on my way to Philadelphia whence a priest friend and I will go to the annual conference for priests held by the St Paul Center for Biblical Theology.
We are delayed due to a weather stop in ATL and I fear I’ll miss my flight to PHL. I got on the horn with Delta and provisionally grabbed the last seat on the red eye.
So, from the plane – returned to the gate – until later.
UPDATE
They got us to ATL in time for my flight. But on top of the weather delay they had here, we were delayed waiting for crew.
Bright side, I was upgraded.
We are very late.

Dear Fr. , May i ask do you ever have a fear of flying? I flew a lot as a kid because my parents took me on nice trips. Then in adulthood I didn’t fly for decades. Now I hear every weird pop and crack and think the plane’s going down. Plus I don’t want to hear a welcome from “Captain Josh” and “First Officer Erika.” Any soothing advice?

New reflection amid this heat wave and the Wedding Feast of Cana.
Our Lady will tell us that John embellished the story. Being a wise lady, she actually asked her son to turn the wine in water, she feared that the wedding guests were getting dehydrated in the heat.
At my age, flying in economy is more and more of a cross. Only remedy is to stay well hydrated and in an aisle seat close to the rest room on any long flight.

Safety Statistics: Statistically, flying is safer than driving, with only 1.1 fatalities per 100 million miles compared to 7.3 for car travel, based on data from the National Safety Council.
The most dangerous part of any airplane trip is the drive to and from the airport.

I pullout my rosary. Not only does the meditation calm me, but it also keeps “friendlies” from bothering me. I suspect some of them are also thinking, “what does he know?”

Anyway enjoy your conference and safe travels to West Virginia from Pennsylvania south down 95 or 76 west and then backroads. I know it’s only a few hours but I think you know what I mean.
We all need community and I think you could use a break from settling your late mother’s estate.
