I had a horrid return from the upper midwest. Flight delays, missed connection, standby on the redeye with the last available seat so far back it was almost outside of the airplane. I didn’t get home until after 2AM.

I think as the weather gets more severe we road warriors are having to get used to this, unfortunately. I missed a connection in St Louis yesterday for BWI. Fared a little better than you in that I got home at 11:30 pm. As I understand it, it was down to very severe thunderstorms in the Ohio valley.
Well in the early 1980s that seat would have been the smoking section and you were at least close to the galley and the head.
I spent at least one red eye flight from DFW to PHL years ago on an MD-95 in seat 7C. That’s an awkward seat since it’s close to the front in the aisle after first class. After that when that seat came up for booking I tried to find a different seat.
