A study in contrasts

Yesterday there was an episcopal consecration… in Laredo, Texas.

Today there was also an episcopal consecration in Ecône, Switzerland.

They were alike in some ways.  There were quite different in others.

You might have a look at both and consider the similarities and the differences.

Here is the video of the episcopal consecration in Ecône, Switzerland.

A helpful person sent me a photo of what was sung at the Communion time in Laredo. In the video this is at about 2:43:00.   Right click for larger.

I am no great musician but even I can recognise the greatness of “Tom Booth and Sarah Hart”; being equal in stature to Mozart, Haydn, Palestrina etc.

Even I can read that sheet music.

The disconnect is more jarring more and more each year.

Wow. One was beautiful, the other “meh”. Tradition creates beauty, which is what was seen in the SSPX consecrations. I’ve never been to a traditional one, but it is breathtaking to watch, especially the NUMBER of the faithful on the outside grass!

Contrast that with a NO consecration and my thoughts are “okay, it is valid, but….” there is something lacking. I’ve been to a couple bishop and AB consecrations and while they are “good” they aren’t memorable and don’t move me to a higher place.

I’ll remember watching the SSPX for quite a while. As we say in my part of the US, they do it right!

I am joyful when attending the Tridentine Mass that typically lasts about 85 min (much longer for special Masses!) rather than to be tortured with the N.O. music in a Mass that targets staying under 1hr.
Is this really music? The Feast Meant for Everyone sounds quite depressing.
If Christianity were to be adopted by the Borg then this is the music I would expect to hear..

Sarah Hart “The seeds of Sarah’s faith were planted during her childhood. She recalled, “I had the most beautiful hippie-dippy childhood in the 70s. Vatican II was new, and there was folk mass and community. I grew up in southeastern Ohio, and there were potlucks and people who gathered to sing and to pray, so I grew up a very free spirit in the church.”

The difference between traditional church music and this modern church music is the “language”. One is coherent the other is jibberish….

This video explains it well (this is less about the movie than it is about music).

    Catholicism changed (greatly improved) music…
