Amazing speech in Parliament about Afghanistan

Tom Tugendhat has just delivered what should be the defining speech of this recall of parliament. The Conservative chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee spoke in pin-drop silence about his own emotional response to the events in Afghanistan, about what he saw as the failure of world leaders, particularly President Biden, and about what must be done to help those desperate people who are trying to leave the country.

He spoke from his own experience as someone who served both as a soldier and a civilian in Afghanistan. He said the events of the past week had ‘torn open some of those wounds, left them raw and left us all hurting’. He recalled colleagues who had died, saying: ‘I’ve watched good men go into the earth, taking with them a part of me and a part of us all.’ He followed this by telling the House that he had spoken to the Health Secretary, who has pledged to do more to help veterans with their mental health.

Most powerfully, he launched an attack on President Biden for his statement on Monday night in which he blamed the Afghan forces for not fighting back against the Taliban. He said: ‘To see their Commander in Chief call into question the courage of the men I fought with, to claim that they ran. Shameful. Those who have never fought for the colours they fly should be careful about criticising those who have.’

Renew prayers and offer penances for Card. Burke, who is doing poorly. I have confirmation from two other sources of what someone who knows the family passed on: H.E. is at a critical point with pneumonia. The next day or so will tell.

The Traddy-Ban captures Rome

Catholics worldwide have been stunned by the news that the Tradi-ban is now occupying Rome, led by the triumvirate of Bar-Golio, Pah-Rolin, and Ahfah-Roche. Last night Rome was full of Tradi-Ban troops singing the victory anthem “Trads Cussed”.
Sadly, nobody suspected that when President Bidenict XVI withdrew his forces in 2013, the brutal forces of Tradi-ban would soon be able to take over and occupy the eternal city and from there rule the entire land of Catholistan.

“Someone’s singing Salve Regina! Send in the elite Swiss Guard commandos.”

With the Tradi-ban in power, there will be many new restrictions on the rights of Catholics – and in particular, they will be deprived of freedom of worship. Women will be told how to dress: mantillas and long dresses are out, and they will be forced to wear the soulless uniform dictated by Bar-Goglio, namely, bergos (crop tops and yoga pants).
President Bidenict has so far not commented on the Tradi-ban coup, and at his advanced age he now spends most of his time sleeping and eating ice-cream. However, there has been criticism worldwide of his hasty withdrawal, which left many Catholics in danger of persecution.

The Tradi-ban’s forces fail to destroy a strategic target.

All is not lost, however. Political commentators such as Max Beans, Lamb Chop, and Tom Risible have welcomed the Tradi-ban as finally bringing Catholistan kicking and screaming into the 1970s. And we know how seriously people take their views.

I see that the LCWR recently had their annual confab, but alas by Zoom or some such. They’ve had some meetings that were so weird that you would think they were all smoking hash.  You can see what they are up to at the Fishwrap (aka National Sodomitical Reporter)… right after you read about their advancements of – I am not making this up – TAROT CARD spirituality.

Now I see a new candidate for the LCWR… maybe they could be called Disjointed Cannabites?  HERE

Holy Smokes! Meet The Nuns Who Grow Weed

The Sisters of the Valley strictly abide by lunar cycles for their work, as they believe this increases the healing powers of the plant.

Although they do not belong to any religious order, the Sisters of the Valley’s devotion is unquestionable. Also known as the “Weed Nuns”, these women are dedicated to growing cannabis and selling medicinal products derived from it.

Based in Merced (which means “mercy”, by the way), California, the organization has been working since 2015 and composed by women of all ages with a very clear goal: to share the medicinal benefits of cannabis and achieve its legalization. In addition, their end is to fight a medical system that has historically oppressed holistic medicine.

In fact, they even sell cheaper products that they have not been able to create within the corresponding cycle. Their products include oils, soaps, balms, topicals, tinctures, and more.

Activism As A Vow
Not being nuns in the strict sense, they do not take Catholic vows, but they do have some of their own. Not to a religion or a god, but to a particular lifestyle. They are committed to providing services to suffering people, to living simply, and to respecting nature and moon cycles. They also include a vow of chastity, but clarify that this does not necessarily imply celibacy.

ASK FATHER: The priest said, “I forgive you” and not “I absolve you”

QUAERITUR:

Is my confession valid if the Priest says, “I forgive you” instead of “I absolve you”? Everything else sounded normal. Thank-you

Once again we have an example of some jackass priest who thinks he is being more meaningful, or who condescendingly thinks that people don’t understand a hard word like “absolve”.  He could catechize and explain what “absolve” means in, you know, preaching and bulletin articles and classes.

So, another good person is left confused, wondering about the validity of the absolution.

Remember: You had your part to play in the Sacrament of Penance.  If you did your best and confessed your mortal sins in kind and number with a firm person of amendment you can be pretty confident in our forgiving God’s mercy.  However, you wanted sacramental absolution.

The Church teaches that if the key words of sacramental forms are changed, the validity of the sacrament is in question.  The gap of meaning that opens between the words can aggravate the problem.

“Forgive” and “absolve” do not mean the same thing.    Just as all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, so too all absolutions are acts of forgiveness but not all acts of forgiveness are absolutions.   “Absolve” is a technical term.  I wrote about it in the context of the absolution given at Mass and also in the traditional form of absolution in the confessional.  If you want to get into the weeds, HERE.   Suffice to say that “forgive” is used to translate various technical terms.

Is “forgive” close enough to “absolve” as to mean enough of the same thing so that the absolution (not forgiveness) is valid?

I don’t think so.  I think that using “forgive” instead of “absolve” is probably invalid.

To absolve – absolution – has to do with releasing one from something that binds.  It will include the imparting of God’s forgiveness.  The priest confessor acts in persona Christi and the priest says “I absolve…” not “God absolves…”.   Forgive doesn’t necessarily mean the unbinding and removal of sin.

If this priest constantly says “I forgive” and will not use the proper form with “I absolve”, you should inform either the pastor of that parish, or the priest’s bishop or religious superior.   Priests should use the proper form.

BTW… priests of non-Latin Church, when serving at a Latin Church ought to use the Latin Church’s proper form of absolution lest they cause confusion and anxiety.

Fathers… use the proper form.

16 August: St. Joachim (1962MR)

Today in the traditional Roman calendar is the Feast of St. Joachim, father of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

St. Joachim’s name in Hebrew means “he whom YHWH has set up”.

His feast was not in the 1570 Missale Romanum. It was added in 1584 for 20 March (the day after the Feast of St. Joseph).  In 1738 it was moved to the Sunday after the Octave of the Assumption of Mary.  All of those Octaves were eliminated sometime before 1962.  Pope St. Pius X  moved it 16 August in order to associate it more closely with the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the post-Conciliar calendar St. Joachim’s feast was joined to that of St. Anne, his wife and mother of the Blessed Virgin for 26 July.  In the 1962 calender, St. Anne has her own feast day, 26 July.  Remember to ask in prayer her to intercede with our Lord to soften the hearts of those who would implement Traditionis custodes.  HERE

I once had relics of Sts. Ann  and Joachim, et al.  I could kick myself.  Anyway…

Think about it: the grandfather of the Lord would share something of His DNA.  Relics of Joachim and Ann are about as close as we can get to relics of Mary and the Lord.
