Following last year’s hideous display of bad taste and politically correct pandering, this year’s Nativity scene in St. Peter’s Square plunges to the nadir of this annus horribilis.
From Vatican News:
The Monumental Nativity Scene is made up of ceramic statues. It is a work created by the pupils and the teachers of the Art Institute “F.A. Grue”, the current state art high school for design, which, in the decade 1965-1975, dedicated its teaching activity to the Christmas theme.
St. Peter’s Square will see only part of the fragile collection, made up of 54 statues, exhibited.
In studio, which does its best…

In situ… which is worse… Hmmm…. doesn’t look like the shot, above. But… just what is that?

What the hell is this? Star Wars?
I know! That’s the Mandalorian with “Baby Yoda” and one of his Sand People allies!
At this point I would insert a short Christmas hymn from a Tusken Raider.
EVERYBODY SING!
To my mind this just about sums up the contribution of the Holy See to the world this year.
In February I posted about a priest with a brain tumor, Fr. John Hollowell. HERE
Here is an an excerpt from an email update. He will have another MRI soon, 16 Dec.
If the MRI does show a continued tumor, I’m certainly prepared to wait another 6 months while undergoing the final 3 rounds of chemo. I am totally open to the possibility that somehow me living the life of a hermit at this time is the best way to serve my parishioners and students. However, if a miraculous healing were to take place, I would obviously be okay with that!
He says that the cause for a “servant of God” the first bishop in Indiana is open. He is asking for prayers for the intercession of Bp. Simon Brute.
His prayer:
“Heavenly Father, you gave your servant Bishop Simon Brute pastoral zeal and ardent charity. Through his intercession, if it be Your Will, may Fr. Hollowell’s MRI on December 16th show no tumor, and may this be a miracle that moves Bishop Simon Brute’s beatification and canonization forward. Amen.”
I know you in your generosity will offer this targeted prayer for the intercession of Bp. Simon Brute.
Not… “And I’ll add all my favorite saints!” Not… “And I’ll pray to “Joe Bagofdonuts whose cause is open in the Diocese of Blackduck!” Not… “and Jesus, Mary and Joseph and all the saints!” Not… Not… Not…
Just that.
THAT’s how miracles are authenticated…. targeted prayer that can be demonstrated.
Our prayerful best wishes for Fr. Hollowell.

I heard today that a good friend of mine Msgr. Richard Soseman died from the Wuhan Devil. He was 57. A story HERE
I’ve known him for many years. He worked in Rome in the Curia for a time and then returned to his native Peoria.
Fr. Soseman was one of those priests in Rome who helped to keep the TLM going at St. Peter’s Basilica
I’m very sorry to hear about his passing. I am sure he received the Last Sacraments and am confident that he had time enough to prepare his soul for judgment.
Will you please say a prayer for this priest?
Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei.
Requiescat in pace. Amen.
