WDTPRS: finalist for the 2007 Weblog Awards - voting open

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 1:30 am

WDTPRS is on the list for the 2007 Weblog Awards.

Great!  Thanks to all of you!

The voting is open and WDTPRS is making a strong showing.

People can vote more than once, but only once in a 24 hour period.

Polls close November 8, 2007 so do please vote every day.

Click here or the logo on the right to got to the voting page.

    UPDATE:

Someone wrote to let me know that one of the other finalists making a strong showing has mentioned WDTPRS on his blog.  This is rather amusing.  Over at Evangelical Outpost:

While I’m a Catholic-friendly evangelical, I can’t just allow Fr. John Zuhlsdorf from What Does The Prayer Really Say? to whoop me (he’s currently ahead 130-77) without showing our Catholic brothers and sisters that we can turn our the Reformed vote. Fr. Z may be predestined to win, but let providence decide that after you cast your ballot.

    1. Best Religious Blog finalists:

      Holy Schmidt
      CampOnThis
      GodDivas
      The Deacon’s Bench
What Does the Prayer Really Say? (WDTPRS)
      Evangelical Outpost
      A Payne Hollow Visit
      One Cosmos
      Talk Wisdom
      Praize.com/Jolanell

I don’t recognize any of the others. Is WDTPRS the only Catholic blog here?

      Comment by Henry Edwards — 1 November 2007 @ 3:35 pm
    2. Henry: I suspect that may be the case.

      Comment by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf — 1 November 2007 @ 3:39 pm
    3. The Deacon’s Bench is Catholic too – its written by Rev. Mr. Greg Kandra, a deacon of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

      Comment by Miguel Garcia — 1 November 2007 @ 4:17 pm
    4. I tried voting for you but it was rejected.
      Was it the Devil?

    5. WDTPRS and the Deacon’s Bench are indeed the only Catholic blogs. Some of the Blogs listed are intellectual featherweights. Christian Rings Tones anyone? Sheesh.

    6. People can vote more than once, but only once in a 24 hour period.

It appears to me from verbiage at the site that serious voters are actually expected to vote daily so long as the poll is open!

      Comment by Henry Edwards — 2 November 2007 @ 12:54 pm
    7. Then we’d all better so do.

      Comment by Dr. Peter H. Wright — 2 November 2007 @ 1:15 pm
    8. During the rundown to the final days of the nomination period, Father Z seemed to be in neck and neck competition with lots of the usual suspects from St Blog’s Parish.

How is it now that none of those blogs, some of them quite popular, made it as finalists.

The Deacon’s Bench blog, brand new, is by a permanent deacon who is an executive with CBS News. It is an excellent blog.

      Comment by Ray from MN — 2 November 2007 @ 2:09 pm
    9. Evangelical Outpost is a very good blog, but not Catholic. It’s the only non-catholic religion blog I read. But FrZ will definitely be getting my vote. You are in good company, Father.

      Comment by Rob F. — 2 November 2007 @ 3:12 pm
    10. Look like WDTPRS has the early lead with just under 38%.

You can vote 1X every 24 hours.

      Comment by Paul Murnane — 2 November 2007 @ 3:46 pm
    11. The devil lost. I voted successfully today…for Holy Schmidt.
      Just kidding!
      Richard

      Comment by Richard — 2 November 2007 @ 8:40 pm
    12. Evangelical Outpost is a very good blog, but not Catholic.

I’ve been watching the totals off-and-on. WDTPRS has a steadily falling percentage (from 40% at break of day), Evangelical Outpost a steadily rising one.

Looks like the evangelicals may be more zealous than the Catholics—in exercising their right to vote once every 24 hours.

      Comment by Henry Edwards — 3 November 2007 @ 2:42 pm
    13. Some of the Blogs listed are intellectual featherweights.

Ah, but you see…such “intellectual featherweights” are more accessible to those of us who have not been raised in churches. It is precisely those kind of “intellectual featherweight,” or shall we say less theologically complicated, blogs that have made people like me feel closer to God, and have led us to places such as this one as we’ve learned more. It is because of those light-hearted blogs that I’ve come closer to conversion and RCIA. It’s blogs such as WDTPRS that will supplement my religious practice once I know what things like “oblata” are, but a diet of theology alone would be a roadblock of confusion for me (although I do love this blog—don’t get me wrong!).

Maybe those featherweights are “holier than thou” rather than the other way around, Templar. Certainly it pleases God to have those bridges between the curious, unschooled Christians and the theologically expert, and I would think disparaging them would not please Him at all. Praise the Lord for those bridges!

    14. Dear Father Z, Keep the great work!. You have followers here in Mexico City…
      God Bless You.

    15. An evangelical with a sense of humour! Refreshing. Now where are all those trendy/mod bloggers with a sense of humour? Perhaps they believe in the ‘spirit of voting,’ rather than the text itself? By the way, for a non-American what is a Lewis and Shor?

      Fr K

      Comment by Fr K — 5 November 2007 @ 1:48 am
    16. Fr K:

Lewis and Short is arguably the best Latin-English dictionary available.

    17. Religious Neophyte;

It was not my intention to disparage, but allude to the fact that Christian Ring Tones, and Screen Savers will bring you no closer to Salvation. I am sorry if you (or anyone else) took offense.

And it’s not like Father Z is a Cloistered Monk producing illuminated tomes here. If you look around his Blog you’ll find references to Tolkien and Battlestar Galactica!! Quite Secular, but at the same time, he takes the work of God seriously. That was my only intention.

      Yours in Christ; Templar

    18. That’s funny. Healthy competition makes everybody better, right?

      May the best blog win!

    23. FOLKS: About the Cross being in the center and turned to the celebrant, you should review the PODCAzTs I did about Joseph Ratzinger’s understanding of why we face liturgical East. He talks about the position of the crucifix at Mass.

      Comment by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf — 6 November 2007 @ 10:26 am
    24. Every time I vote, Fr Z has roughly twice as many votes as the next highest contender. That won’t keep me from voting early and often, though!

      Comment by RosieC — 6 November 2007 @ 11:20 am
    25. It is curious that one blog was able to edge out so manyothers to make it to the finals yet has only 11 votes now. Even two people voting daily could have propped that up.

My own blog will likely never win an award, as I seem to have about 7 readers – 6 of whom are also contributeors. LOL But for the rest of us, it is sometimes just fun to “put it out there on the net” and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. From time to time, someone googling comes accross an article in the archives and gives a shout.

Besides, it at least keeps me off the streets!

Way to go, Father Z. I have voted early and often!

    29. Hey Vincenzo,

I think it’s time to break out that Bugatti pic again!

      Comment by Paul Murnane — 9 November 2007 @ 12:50 am
    30. Did I win a Bugatti? Really?

      Comment by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf — 9 November 2007 @ 2:15 pm
    31. Just remembering your previous win in the Catholic blog awards. If only a Bugatti was the prize :) The occasion may require popping some Veuve….then again, due to budgetary restrictions I think I’ll need to wait until the Holy Father celebrates the Usus Antiquior, which truly will be an occasion to celebrate.
