I am not making this up. Could it explain about clerics from a certain country?

Here’s the caption (I was sent this via Instagram):

This Sunday, at the Children’s Pentecost Mass, we all received the fruits of the Holy Spirit together. We discovered what the Spirit gives us in each of these fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness, which fill our hearts and help us live closer to Jesus. ??? And, as a sign of all that we shared, we prepared a large fruit salad, full of colors, flavors, and also the love of our beloved Holy Spirit, who unites us and invites us to bear good fruit every day. ??? We experienced a Pentecost full of joy, faith, and community! ??

Here it is.

Remember… the big problem that needs to be dealt with is … lace.

How – I ask you – HOW can anyone justify the suppression of the Traditional Latin Mass when THIS can go on?

This jackass is in MASS VESTMENTS with a “Minions” hat.  He clearly has an affinity for fruit.  I can imagine his sermons are also fruit salad.  Can you imagine what else goes on in there.

What do you suppose the people in that geographic parish believe regarding the Catholic Faith?  Maybe not a fair question?   Oh YEAH?   Having had this sort of crap for who knows how long, what do you think they believe about the Eucharist?

But… lace.  That’s a real problem.  It means that… you know… Vatican II…

Vatican II: which opened the door to THIS.

Grrrrr.

Jesus hung on a cross from the nails in his hands and feet for three agonizing hours, struggling to breath, so this man might be saved from hell.

I compassionate My Lord and God for the mental anguish He suffered knowing for some His sacrifice would be useless.

I’m assuming Central America or Mexico? Most of South America this would be triple the average Easter attendance…

Where do they find these guys? Off, off Broadway? Or off, off the Midway?

Yes, yes, –the time knife– Argentina, we’ve all seen it.

A Church stuck in the 80s is the softest thing that can be said about it; in harsher words, this is the kind of result you get when a person who is narrow minded, petty, vindictive, not particularly well read or interested in abstract, difficult questions and matters, surrounds himself with and promotes the kind of man *he* finds non-threatening and contemptible. And then imagine with which kind of criteria *these* men in turn filter the few men willing to join seminary. And then consider that first man had such power to do and undo and manipulate for 27 years. And then draw your conclusions (which in this case have little to do with VII). You will find things in Argentina which you will not find elsewhere in LATAM.

In a related note, whoever here reads Spanish may be interested in the back and forth between Catholic blogger El Wanderer and +Colombo (+Colombo and +Barba are Argentinian bishops that have attempted to forbid the faithful from receiving the Eucharist kneeling, or to force EMHC to always receive on the hand to “educate” the faithful). On the one hand, because it illustrates the kind of “hand-picked” bishop you find in Argentina. On the other, because it signals Rome is listening to complaints about Charlotte-like situations, and reacting to them (feebly, because “having a chat” about it with the bishop is kind of toothless, but it is *something* which is better than the nothing or worse that we had before). Now, now, Father…

You know the abuses of the Novus Ordo are rare and isolated. I’m sure it took a lot of work to organize this… fruitful… experience. Look at the enthusiasm, or something.

How on earth can anyone take salvation seriously when presented as a circus? Serious business requires serious people in serious clothes taking things seriously.

How did all that fall out of the playbook just because a group of self important modernists got together in Rome in the 60s??? And why do we still care what they said – AT ALL???

  8. jhogan says:

St. Paul wrote, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.” (1 Cor. 13:11) Beyond this, words fail me.
I did notice that parents and adults in the pews did not appear amused by these things either.

  9. Ages says:

A clown mass of another sort.

  10. Benedict Joseph says:

The NCRegister reported last week that at the May 27th audience the Holy Father urged priests to respect liturgical norms to avoid confusion at Mass during a catechesis focused on “Sacrosanctum Concilium.”
So who exactly are the sacrilegious deviant disobedient clerics laughing in the face of ecclesiastical authority requiring excommunication? The faithful are entitled to Holy Mass offered with total and absolute conformity to liturgical norms, in both the Novus Ordo and Vetus Ordo.
The photograph accompanying this report is nothing less than sickening. The clown in the funny hat had best get a psychological check-up, be kept far from children, obtain a Uber license and be laicized.
    It makes my blood boil.

  11. The Astronomer says:

    Apostasy.

  12. haydn seeker says:

Not seeing the problem. Lighten up, some children got taught about the fruits of the Holy Spirit using real fruit, big deal.

  13. Deusdedit says:

This is an abuse of the faith of these poor children. One may take solace in seeing the relatively scarce number of children at this “children’s” Mass, at least in the physical order. Mentally, I’m not so sure.

  14. EAW says:

“As nutty as a fruitcake” was my first thought. It is a sad thing that these people don’t take their faith seriously enough to celebrate it in a dignified manner. Even sadder is the priest, who makes some sort of a clown show out of a Mass (I assume it is a Mass, after all he is vested in a chasuble, albeit under a Boca Juniors apron). I can’t stand trouser legs under an alb, but the Minions hat is much, much worse. Lord, have mercy.

  15. Vir Qui Timet Dominum says:

    The kids look thrilled!

  16. FleurDeZ says:

Looking at the congregation, clearly Cdl John Heenan was on to something in the 60s when he predicted, after having seen the “Interim Mass”, that congregations would soon be comprised of only women and children. Kyrie eleison.

  17. prayfatima says:

I get the drift. The gifts or “fruits” of the Spirit and fresh fruit.

Of course, this type of “display” ?? is not at all proper for a Mass setting. Perhaps one single line on the connection of the word “fruit” in the homily and that’s it. Save the patience/pineapple, understanding/ugli fruit display for the dinning hall after Mass. Maybe the women’s extraordinary ministers guild could host it. Skip the dancing fruit people entirely. And No minion hat!!

Really, this is a perfect illustration of how the experiment of Mass in the vernacular, with basically zero boundaries to keep the priest in line, has gone completely off the rails. Somehow when the priest hears the words “Children’s Mass” he thinks: “minion’s hat, snack time, bombastic craft and dancing event”. Eliminating Children’s Masses entirely would be a step in the right direction.

This priest needs BOUNDARIES. He should stay at his post and do only what he was trained to do. What exactly was he trained to do? The world has no idea anymore. The parents of these children are also to blame, they need to understand that it’s their responsibility to shield their children from characters like this that turn the Mass into a bad cartoon show. Some people may not realize that they don’t have to take their children to the “Children’s Mass”.

It’s no wonder there’s no respect for authority anymore even among those who identify as traditional Catholics. There have been many bad examples of this type of embarrassment for the face of Catholicism and it’s got to stop. Those in authority positions need to act in ways worthy of respect. It’s scandalous and unacceptable. Stop lowering yourself to the least common denominator. People are learning from you for better or for worse.

The Mass in the vernacular lacks the necessary boundaries to keep priests like this in line and in turn, to protect the faith and the faithful.

This is why many stay away from Catholic Churches in our day and age. If you can’t know what to expect when you arrive it makes it hard to muster up the courage to go. Already, no one knows how to dress when attending Mass. Now people aren’t going to know if they should bring a potluck main dish to share at the offertory along with the pineapple being passed out. It’s out of control. Is there a dance now after the sign of peace? Should they bring their checkbook or their mace? The questions never end. When we are at church it should feel, look, sound, and smell like church.

Those in authority positions in the church have a duty to make it easy for the faithful to attend Mass. We have an obligation to attend every single week. Stop the surprises.

  18. JabbaPapa says:

    Pentecost Mass.

Literally unbelievable — men like that destroy even the pretense of validity.

Once when the Mass for the Blessing of Saint Joseph’s Table occurred coincidentally on the same day as one of the bread-focused days of Holy Week (and our church is St. Joseph’s), our old PP used the Liturgy of the Word as a means to evangelise us rhrough the blessing and sharing of the (unconsecrated) bread with us gathered in a circle, so as to teach us more clearly about the Flesh of our Lord in Eucharist.

Abusive certainly, but for the Mass proper, everything back properly in order and Mass itself given exactly and properly.

  19. Benedict Joseph says:

@haydn seeker: What the children absorbed is that the Church is a circus. The message will come to fruit in adolescence and early adulthood when the lesson justifies their abandonment of the Faith.

  20. Not says:

I see Bishops, Archbishops and maybe Cardinals embracing the Minion headgear.

  21. Gaetano says:

When you ordain a clown you should expect a circus.

  22. Tomasthetorque says:

This certainly justifies the Novus Ordo being labeled a “clown show.” Was this even a valid Mass? And will any discipline be forthcoming? Not holding my breath.

  23. OldProfK says:

When Father said “…certain country,” I figured it had to be Germany. Wrong again.

My wife and I were on vacation at Pentecost, but it worked out (after we figured out that I had us on a reciprocal bearing) that we got to Notre Dame just in time for Mass, so we stayed for Mass. Though my French is just short of nonexistent, I am grateful for the opportunity and the experience.

Why does burning at the stake pop into my mind when I see this?
