Benedict XVI’s Visit to the UK.

There is now a site for the Papal Visit to the UK.

I am sure you will be as pleased as I am that His Holiness is going to Beatify Ven. John Henry Newman during his visit to England.

From the "Visit" site we have this:

John Henry Cardinal Newman will be beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in the Archdiocese of Birmingham on 19 September 2010. This great Victorian Catholic theologian, much loved the world over, will be declared "Blessed". The miracle required for Cardinal Newman’s beatification was officially recognised by the Holy See on 3 July 2009. In our Cardinal Newman section, you can read his biography, look at key teachings and reflect on Deacon Jack Sullivan’s miracle cure from a serious spinal disorder that has led to this autumn’s beatification.

This Pope has not been doing the beatifications himself.  Rather, he has been delegating the beatification ceremony to someone like the Prefect of the Congregation for Saints, and in the place where the blessed is to be venerated.  Veneration of a Blessed is normally restricted to a location or an institute of religious life.

However, Pope Benedict has long been interested in John Henry Newman.  His writings influenced the thought of the young Joseph Ratzinger and, during the rest of his life, he always paid attention to the theological contributions of this great English convert, preacher and writer.

I am sure that the visit will be a real occasion of grace for everyone.

Do pray for the Pope.  Remind others to do so.

Let us pray for the Queen of England, that she finally convert to the Catholic Faith and that she follow the example of the TAC and hand the entire Church of England (minus the priestesses) back to the Pope as a welcome gift when he visits there in September. Wouldn’t that be incredible? Let us pray to our Queen Mother Mary that this miracle be granted to Holy Mother Church through her Heavenly intercession. Mater Dei, ora pro nobis. Ora pro Regina. Ave Regina Caeli. Salve Regina.

This is a double honor: a) The Pope goes to Birmingham, England, to canonize Blessed John Henry Newman; and b) the Pope goes to Birmingham, England, to canonize Blessed John Henry Newman.

  3. mpm says:

Sorry, I should have said “to beatify”, not “to canonize”.

    Wonderful to hear!

I have a priest-friend in the Salford diocese who was ordained by John Paul II in 1982, the last time that a Pope visited Britain. I’m sure he will be able to take part in the visit of Papa Benedict.

MarkJ-I echo that prayer for the Queen! She is a good Christian woman-she ought to be Catholic!

    This is joyous news!

A prayer for our beloved Pope Benedict XVI
    V. Oremus pro Pontifice nostro Benedicto.

    R. Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum eius. [Ps 40:3]

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

Deus, omnium fidelium pastor et rector, famulum tuum Benedictum, quem pastorem Ecclesiae tuae praeesse voluisti, propitius respice: da ei, quaesumus, verbo et exemplo, quibus praeest, proficere: ut ad vitam, una cum grege sibi credito, perveniat sempiternam. Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

    Viva il Papa!

I am so happy!! So pleased the event will be held in the Venerable John Henry’s home diocese — and what an honor that the Holy Father himself will perform the Beatification ceremony.

Thank you, God, for this kindness.
