That Canon Law Conference

I wrote before about the Canon Law conference I attended at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe south of La Crosse, WI.

First, do visit that Shrine.  It is amazing.

Second, here is a quick shot of three bloggers, Dr. Edward Peters of In the Light of the Law, Fr. John Boyle of Caritas in Veritate, and the undersigned.

I promise you… it’s not that I am that short.  It is that these guys are so tall!

I read somewhere that Fr Boyle is the tallest priest in England.

I am very interested in the blog, “In the Light of the Law,” thanks for providing that, Father! As I was married before I became Catholic, and then became a Catholic, and then had to figure out how to become a legitimately married Catholic, I had to turn to a Canon Lawyer (who was a Priest,) and through the juggernauts of Canon Law, I was nunc pro tunc validly married in the Church, ipso facto; abracadabra, by the sliding of the Bishops hand over paper, I was validly married! Well, this actually makes sense, since marriage is the one Sacrament that is performed exclusively between man and wife, with the Priest being the presider. Similarly, a parent could validly baptize a child on the brink of death if the Priest would arrive to late.

Btw, Father, those guys to your right and left seem not only taller, but also a bit smarter, if I may say so, with all due respect :)

Just kidding–as you’ve evidenced on this blog, you are plenty smart!

  3. Rachel says:

FYI, Father, I could see the picture once I opened Internet Explorer, but it doesn’t show up for me in Firefox, and that’s often the case with pictures you post.

Anyway, it looks like a great conference!

    Rachel,
Perhaps you need to update your add-ons or plug-ins or whatever. I don’t have any trouble with Firefox…

Eh bene, si res sic habet, quae es statura tua? Et statura eorum? Eduardulus Peters, pondusne auxit? Vitam canonicam optime nutrire apparet. Pater Boyle solus ex triumviratu vestro asceta videtur. Clericus fuisse deberem, mulieres autem tantopere cupio. Quid dicere possum — Gallicus sum. Nequaquam tamen Gallicanus sed Romanus! :-)

On the left, non Roaming hamster.

    Rachel,

I have no trouble with Firefox as I use it all the time.

    Father Z,

As to short priests, or short anyone, do not the most expensive things come in small packages, as my Grandma Vanek used to say? She was 5’10”, a tall lady for her generation (born in 1900).

  8. Mike says:

Wisdom is not accounted by white hairs, nor stature by measure…at 49 I wish I had a few more white whiskers to show my age, but I’ll opt for a desire, at least, for wisdom, instead!

  9. arotron theou says:

It’s the three Musketeers! Porthos, Athos, and Aramis, we salute you!

  10. Vincenzo says:

Rachel, I only see this pic via MSIE & Chrome too. Nothing via Firefox.

  11. Vincenzo says:

    Now it’s visible.

  12. oratefratres says:

    @Father Z,

I wonder if you met Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner who is the Guardian of the Friary beside the Shrine? I think he is either the last or remaining True Bonaventurist out there. He is an authority on Bonaventure. Sad to say that there is only a few Franciscans out there who follow St. Bonaventure.

  13. Agnes says:

    Incredulous excitement. Hold me back.

    Learn anything new?

  14. No problem with firefox here. :-)

  15. Paul says:

The problem with displaying pictures on Word Press sites is caused by ad blocking programs that some browsers run. Add an exclusion for wdtprs.com and you will have no more trouble.

  16. Henry Edwards says:

I can vouch personally for the fact that Father Z is hardly a midget. Dr. Peters and Fr. Boyle must be really tall (at least, from my perspective). A picture where Father Z is the taller one:

(The other guy’s not a midget, either.)

  17. mrsmontoya says:

Alas, while we did have La Crosse circled on the map, we were a little behind schedule by the time we got to Wisconsin, so we went to the Cathedral of St. Paul then headed on northward. Words don’t express how amazing and beautiful that is. Such a glory to God!

    Cardinal Cormac is pretty tall.

Nah!. Aragorn, Frodo, and Gandalf. He He!!:)

  21. irishgirl says:

    Lookin’ good, you guys!

I’ve heard about Edward Peters-his son is the ‘Young Papist’, right? Nice to know to put a face to a name!

‘Porthos, Athos, and Aramis….Aragorn, Frodo and Gandalf…’ love it!

Too bad His Hermeneuticalness couldn’t come from ‘across the pond’-then he’d be D’Artangnan! Heehee!

  22. Konichiwa says:

Yes Fr, they make you look about my height, 5’6″. I always imagined you being about 5’8″.

  23. Andrew says:

I’d be curious to know how much Latin was used at this conference.

  24. Andrew: The talks were, of course, in English. But there were numerous references to technical terms in Latin.

  25. Tim Ferguson says:

I’m a bit sleep deprived from the late train ride back to Detroit, but I’m also still on a bit of a “high” from the conference – what a marvelous time!

  26. TJerome says:

Ed Peters is one fine, scholarly man. He must be proud of his son, Thomas, whose American Papist blog is excellent.

  27. Susan the Short says:

As me old Mum used to say, “Dearie, it’s not that you’re short…it’s just that they built the sidewalks too close to your bum.”

  28. Widukind says:

A reunion of characters from the “Lord of the Rings”?
    Bilbo, Gimli, and Legalos?
