I have been praying for a special intention for several months now. It finally came to pass and I will be making a trip to Philly in September to explore more fully.
Also, St. Anthony intervened and I found a photo album that contained pictures of Monsignor Schuler, you, and several others closely related to the Monsignor that I thought I had lost in my move back from Detroit in 2006. It was from All Souls’ 1997.

In three weeks I start Third Theology and in less than 10 months I will be ordained a traditional deacon.
Three months ago, I received a letter denying financial aid for my last two semesters of school, I appealed, and two weeks ago, I received a letter denying my appeal. In wondering what to do I prayed, something I should have been doing the whole time. I prayed, not for financial aid or to win the lotto, but for me to be able to see God’s Will. God’s Will in my life is visible and vocal I just make myself blind to it most of the time. Today, I was informed that I have received other financial aid so I can finish school in the spring. Had I not received financial aid I would still be posting this. Why? Because I would have seen and heard God’s Will and that is the good news.
I don’t have any ‘good news’ to report for myself…but I do want to say, ‘I hope you’re feeling better, Father Z’….
You need some good chicken soup! ; ) That’ll knock out whatever you’ve got!

A recent legal dispute that I feared would end up in court was resolved – I recovered all the money that was owed to me in justice and I didn’t have file a lawsuit and spend the rest of the summer in court.
My husband and I got married on January 1, 2005 (the Solemnity fell on a Saturday) and I found out two weeks ago that we are expecting our fourth child next spring.
As I am currently reading Fr. Euteneuer’s Exorcism and the Church Militant, I like to think that, though I am a pregnant stay-at-home mom to a 4 year old, 2 year old and 1 year old, by living the Gospel of Life, in some small way, I’m soldiering from home.
Hope you are feeling better soon and remember, like my morning sickness, this too shall pass.
My husband and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary, thankful to God for His love and His grace. As a special treat, we went to Cincinnatti to hear Fr. Corapi’s talks on the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church. Awesome. Finally, we adopted 2 kittens from the animal shelter, vowing that they will be indoor cats, something we had never done, but, out of respect to all manner of birds, bunnies, frogs, etc. we will be keeping them indoors.
That’s my good news and I’ll be praying for your speedy recovery, Fr. Z.
My husband and I both have employment, our family is healthy, the sun is shining and the cicadas are buzzing. We are blessed.
My mother, who is 82, had a miraculous healing of her aorta. She went into surgery for repair on Monday, and when the doctor’s went in, even after many previous tests, she was seen to be healed. They cannot explain it and were very apologetic.
Praise God who answers prayers in His Will. My mother said she was “ready to go”, but God must have something else in mind for her to do here.
I leave for the novitiate this Friday, August 13, and will have an entire year devoted to prayer and contemplation, in which I will unceasingly pray for the Church, for the greater use of the usus antiquior, and for you, Fr. Z :) I also have begun reading Adrian Fortescue’s The Ceremonies of the Roman Rite Described, preparing me for my eventual own celebration of the Extraordinary Form.
Perhaps your readers might keep me in prayer, as well, during this year…
We just harvested 56 (!) butternut squash yesterday. Butternut Squash Soup, Pies, and Bread…oh my! The really good news is that it doesn’t need to be canned, frozen, dried or processed in any way!

We recently found out my wife is expecting our 8th child(one in heaven)! Deo gratias, Adjutorium notrum in Nomine Domine!
Today is the Feast of St. Clare, one of the most beautiful souls in all of God’s creation who has showered her love and care on my family for many years. This evening we will be present with the Capuchin Clares of Our Lady of Light Monastery in Denver to celebrate this great Solemnity. My 10 year old daughter has been planing on joining them when she grows up since she could speak. It was their intercession that helped my little girl to fully recover from several strokes she suffered from as an infant, that at one time had left her with significant motor impairment.
My Father is coming to visit next week, whom we have not seen in 6 years. He will have the grace of meeting 3 of his grandchildren for the first time!
My wife is scheduled to deliver our 10th child before the end of the month!
Wish you had come to the Catholic New Media Celebration. It was an awesome success.
We are reminded that we are not alone in this New Evangelization. There are so many good people – priest, religious and laity working to spread the Good News of Our Lord and His Church.

This past Saturday I was married in the Extraordinary Form to the most wonderful woman I’ve ever met!
I recently received a great gift from Bishop R. Walker Nickless of Sioux City, IA. He graciously penned the Foreword to my most recent work, a book entitled “Ten Things Every Catholic Should Know About Vatican II.” The book will be made available on Monday.
Also, I will be appearing on the EWTN program “The Choices We Face” with Ralph Martin next Tuesday where I will tell the story of God’s incredible generosity in my life and how I am living proof that He delights in using the foolish… My hope and my prayer is that this will inspire others to trust in Him, and also help me to reach my fellow Catholics with whatever good can be found in my work – all thanks, glory and honor to God.
We’re claiming our first-born for Christ on Saturday! Married in October, baby in July, Baptism in August… funny how these things happen. AMDG!
the Parish in orefield, pA, in which i grew up, was poorly catechized, and which could be a spokeschurch for the Journeysongs hymnal has begun Adoration during the week on all weekdays. Brick by brick. Praised be Jesus Christ!!
We get to experience a Solemn High Mass this Sunday for the feast day! And to top it off, one of our favorite priests is coming to town to say it !!
I am heading out to the Adoration Chapel and will pray for you, Fr. Z. That’s two pieces of good news – 1) that there is an Adoration Chapel and 2) that I am able to pray there. Another bit of good news – through a disappointment, the Lord made me aware of how my ears had been closing to His voice. Although I’m a bit unhappy about the disappointment (doubtless the Lord knows what He is doing), I am happy for the chastisement.

I forgot to add an amusing anectdote. When we took the required baptism class at our parish last month, the deacon was very impressed when our 22 month old daughter correctly identified Jesus, Mary, and Pope Benedict in pictures around the parish office.
I just finished my final term paper for my BAT and I’m getting ready for my FINAL FINAL! I’ll be substitute teaching at a few places which will help a very bad financial situation and, I’m going down to the Shrine again soon!
I made a consecration to the Sacred Heart and had a purity ring (a scapular medal) especially blessed for the intention of being a consecrated laywoman.
The seven kids have not killed each other yet and school is just around the corner…
I’m still living on the Holy Eucharist and caffeine.
Life has all its twists and turns, and I certainly have biffed and blundered, but all in all, it is precious and good.

Thought of something else… This Sunday there will be an EF Mass celebrated at a parish near my home (St. Bartholomew in Manchester, MD) for the Feast of the Assumption.
I was able to go to confession yesterday (on a weekday!) We have a very dedicated priest who offers confession before every daily Mass. Thanks to a recent post of yours I had the act of contrition written on a piece of paper so I could pray it in the confessional. Thanks for helping give me the confidence to approach that very important sacrament properly.
I am starting this month as the Religion teacher at the local Catholic Middle School! They have not had a centralized Religion program until now (before, the teachers taught their own classes Religion). I hope to worthily steep the kids in all the hidden treasures, beauty, and glory of the Holy Catholic Church! Pray for me!
Today my wife and I have been married 20 years!
Tonight my son has his Boy Scout Eagle Board of Review.
Tomorrow I hope to be employed once again, having not worked since October.
Hopefully, I’ll be over the illness I’ve had since after Mass on Sunday.

I just scanned over a Wanderer I just received dated Aug. 5.and wanted to thank you Father, again for your column, your blog, and everything. You are uplifting and give me great spiritual direction in your comments and the information you present- it pushes me to learn more. I am grateful. Hope you are feeling better. My business has been operating in the RED for the last 18 months. This year we landed 2 big contracts that put us back in the BLACK and now we won’t lose our home.
On July 19th I had ESWL (lithotripsy) for the “piece of Irish granite” that was in my left kidney. After 45 minutes of this quite painful treatment (despite injections of pain killer), I was told that the stone is very hard and, while usually cracks can be seen in such stones on the computer screen after treatment, they saw no sign of any cracks on mine! When the pain medicine wore off I felt like I had been kicked in the kidney by a mule!!
On July 28th the doctors could not see the stone on a x-ray, and gave me another appointment for August 25th. Yesterday two good sized pieces of the monster made their way out…. One was about 4 millimeters in diameter, the other a bit smaller. That means that the piece of granite did get shattered! Although I know that it can take 3 months to become completely clear of stone pieces, I am very happy. I had prepared myself for the possibility of having to undergo ESWL again. Now, it appears, that I will not have to go through that again.
Bishop Earl Boyea of the Diocese of Lansing has created a mission (with the goal of being a personal parish) entirely dedicated to the sacraments as they were celebrated in 1962. Bishop Boyea is celebrating the first TLM in Lansing in over 40 years an the crypt of St. Mary Cathedral as the official beginning of the mission now officially known as the Blessed John XXIII Community.
I am home to spend the last two weeks of my summer with my family before I head back the seminary for my LAST year of philosophy!
I am feeling a little under the weather myself, today, but I am so very pleased to be living in a house for the first time in eight years, rather than an apartment, and today our phone and internet were hooked up. My husband started his first full-time job as an organist last week. Life is pretty good!
I’ve been saying the rosary with my 4 yr. old daughter a few weeks. It’s often a little catechism time, since I let her stop me to ask any questions. This week she stopped me to ask how Mary could be God’s mother. At the end of the answer I told her that Mary was also the Mother of all the baptized, so all Catholics have “another Mommy in heaven”. She was so excited she jumped up and hugged me, saying, “Oh, that’s wonderful! A bonus Mommy!”
Two bits:
1. we got two new priests in our parish in June and the parochial vicar preached this Sunday on the necessity of confession – first time I’d heard that topic mentioned in the parish (been there ten years);
2. today I had occasion to pray a rosary for Fr. Z’s intentions while doing cardiac rehab exercises – my recovery from quad bypass surgery on 5/24 is progressing very well indeed.
Fractured rib pain is abating.

Hope you feel better Father Z. My family on both the east and west coasts have been suffering from a miserable summer cold with body aches, fever, sore throat.
My good news is that I have been appointed to work on a program for spiritual bouquets for our priests.
My other good news is that I will be traveling quite a bit late this summer and fall and will be able to attend the EF of the Mass in the towns and cities where I will be staying. Always a treat for me.
I am going to see my wife and kids again! Woohoo!!!
Looks like I’m employed again, after praying and worrying a lot about that for months with no answers. My dh said a short prayer to St Joseph one evening, the very next day I got the job offer. …Talk about the good ole boy network!

Today I completed my first 4 weeks working in a parish trying out diocesan life, after nearly two decades of religious life, during which my ministry was almost entirely in-house (such as teaching philosophy to members of my community for the past 9 years). It has been a big change, but also a wonderful experience of serving the people of God in ways I never have before. The pastor and parishioners have been very welcoming, and we have several very dedicated and devout deacons who are a great help. I hope to be offering Mass in the Extraordinary Form soon, if I can make the time to finish learning it.
And when I post comments here, it spikes the stats on my blog, where I post slightly adapted versions of my homilies, inter alia, and that’s encouraging. Most of my parishioners have not heard about it yet, so it’s nice to know that at least some people check it out, even just once out of curiosity.
God has blessed me abundantly during these four weeks. Deo Gratias!
My MA in History will be conferred in exactly seven days. And I have made up my mind to go on to an MA in Theology with a focus on Liturgical Studies, followed by a PhD in Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology. In other words, I’ve finally decided what I want to do with my life.
My husband doesn’t need surgery at this time and is getting better every day. We made a decision to move back toward family in the midwest once we have managed some other problems related to health and finances. The decision has given us much peace and focus. Praise God our marriage has stayed strong through all our problems!
Our pastor moved the tabernacle to the center of the Church behind the altar!
And our parish school is converting from boilerplate American education model to a classical model.
I finished my last assignment for the last of my two on-line courses this summer today. It has been a very long road (especially for one of them), but thanks be to God I’m done!!! Also deep thanks to God for all my friends at Impact Calgary (CCO) this summer (you know who you are), especially Sarah, who has been an angel in disguise in supporting me throughout the summer.
Just found out baby #3 is on the way!

I have just celebrated two years as a Catholic (on the feast of S. Laurence). I am also looking forward to the reception into the Church of two good friends, who will be received very soon, bringing their three little children with them!
I think I will be able to enter the Poor Clares by October!
Also, I have really enjoyed the Don Camillo recordings in the podcasts–especially the soccer face-off, you did some brilliant voice acting, Father.
And I snagged myself 2 of the Don Camillo books in Italian for normal book prices (Rizzoli, New York–near Fifth Avenue–you might like it, Father). Fantastic!
Also, while cleaning the kitchen I re-listened to the podcast with Augustine on the active & contemplative, around the feast of St Mary Magdalene. I love that sermon. Thanks for making it available in a format I can absorb.
We have a new bishop in the Diocese of La Crosse.
And from the beautiful and inspiring installation Mass yesterday in scorching temperatures (a veritable penance in and of itself!) there is much for which we have to thank and praise our loving God; his homily was most inspiring. God bless and keep Bishop William Patrick Callahan!
My FSSP parish now has an online calendar showing when the priests will be praying the Divine Office publicly during the day. They offer the hours publicly as often as their schedules allow. What a blessing!

This isn’t technically good news, but it should put a smile on someone else’s face too. At work I had to train someone as a backup on one of my responsibilities. It’s a highly complex task that takes most of the first workday of each month and the directions ran to 97 separate steps. As is my wont, I used the abbreviation “N.B.” for a few pertinent bits. When my pupil came back after reading the directions, she said “I really liked the no brainers!”
