NEWS: Bishop Fredrik Hansen of Oslo has drawn a clear line on synodality. He recently extended permission for the Latin Mass.

I’m not sure I fully understand this cartoon from 2009 which someone sent to me, but I twig that it aims scorn at obtuse bishops, so it’s okay by me.
I don’t understand the cartoon either. I thought in the modern Church we didn’t need confession anymore? Maybe the only sin left, besides not recycling your cardboard, is wanting to worship the way the Church has always worshipped for centuries.
At least Pittsburgh still has the ICKSP at Most Precious Blood of Jesus parish on the North side, plus the SSPX chapel St. James. Funny how everything the Church does seems to increase the number attending the SSPX. I guess it hasn’t occurred to “the people that should know better club” (to borrow a phrase from Fr. McTeigue) that every move to suppress Tradition strengthens the Society.
We need a viking pope-
I’m surprised by the actions and thought process of this Bishop in PA. I read somewhere that this particular Mass was an indult Mass. Is it even possible to cancel an indult Mass? I didn’t think so. And what of Pope Leo’s current request to Bishops to find concrete solutions to better welcome the faithful who are interested in the ancient form of the Latin rite liturgy? He doesn’t seem to be taking this into account at all.
He’s focused on the last Pope’s documents seemingly to the exclusion of anything else. He seems to be ignoring the fact that this is an indult Mass with the privileges that come with that reality and he seems to be disregarding the current Pope’s requests for generosity towards this group of Catholic faithful.
That brings me to a bigger question. The root question that has always lingered unanswered is this: is it permissible for anyone to restrict an approved form of the liturgy found in an approved Catholic rite of the Church? I would say no. This all started with the introduction of a different, newer form of the Mass and has caused disunity and confusion regarding the original form of the Mass ever since.
Cardinal Roche has said that Pope Francis allowed the ancient form of the Mass and he is not sure why there is a feeling of persecution. I get bothered by that, too. I’m tired of the cautious and timid behavior that I witness in regards to saying the ancient form of the Latin rite Mass. It’s my understanding that an ordained priest should feel confident and free to offer an approved form of the Mass in the particular rite that he belongs to. Unless they have their faculties taken away, or they are not actually approved to function in a particular approved rite of the Church, there should be no issues offering a public Mass in either form. Again, if there weren’t two forms in one rite, this would all be a non-issue.
I read that Bishop Hansen just recently opened a canonization cause for Sigrid Undset.

I think I understand the cartoon: imagine the two doors to the church as two water fountains, one marked Whites, and the other marked “Coloreds” or “Negros”. It also highlights the fact that the only people (according to the cartoonist) who need to acknowledge sins are Traditionalists.
