SSPX USA District Superior: “double your efforts in the Rosary Crusade”

The District Superiors of the SSPX are one by one having their say about the present situation of the SSPX in light of the Holy See’s (the Holy Father’s) outreach.

The German Superior HERE and the BeNeLux HERE.

The US District pipes up:

[...]

The matter is in the hands of the Holy Father and we are waiting for His decision.

Let us remember that it is to our Superior General, and only to him, that has been entrusted by the law of the Church [hmmm... I think they are rather outside the law at the moment, and that is what everyone wants to resolve...] and the will of Archbishop Lefebvre the delicate task of our relations with Rome. As such, he is the only competent authority   to take prudent decisions for our Society. Because of his function and his 18 years of leadership in keeping the Faith and seeking the common good of the Church, we renew to him all our confidence, trust and respectful obedience in this difficult time. Our filial piety to him, as to the Sovereign Pontiff, [And if they speak about obedience to Bp. Fellay as the Superior, could they not use obedience also in respect to the Holy Father?] pushes us to do more than usual in these unusual circumstances: we desire to bring to them the support of all your prayers.  [Do I hear an "Amen!"?]

To pray is indeed the most important, and as a matter of fact, the only thing we can do now. [Another "Amen!"?] I would like to ask you to double your efforts in the Rosary Crusade, which will end on Pentecost Sunday (May 27, 2012), keeping in mind the striking results of the previous ones. I wish also to solicit your generosity in offering a novena to the Holy Ghost.

The intention of this novena will be that the Holy Ghost may give the graces of light and strength to the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, and to the SuperiorGeneral  of the Society, Bishop Fellay.

The novena consists of praying the Veni Creator Spiritus and adding theMemorare (Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary) starting on May 8 and ending on May 16, the vigil of the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.

I authorize the priests to add these prayers just before or after their daily Mass.

Let us pray that the Good Lord may keep us all united in the Faith and in a corps spirit around our Superior, working for the Restoration of all things in Christ as ever.

In the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

Fr. Arnaud Rostand

  1. Beautiful, and very encouraging. I will definitely join in the praying of the Novena to the Holy Ghost, and His Immaculate Bride, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

  2. BaedaBenedictus says:

Rosaries and novenas to the Holy Ghost. Amen. These folks are recognizably *Catholic*! And THAT is precisely why so many in the Church (on paper anyway) oppose their regularization so adamantly!

  3. AnAmericanMother says:

    In before the sniping . . . oh, wait, never mind . . .

Guys. Don’t make the perfect the enemy of the good. Cut out all the griping and get down on your knee bones and PRAY.

  4. More hope than expected in these words:

An ossified manualist might, in fact, consider obedience to be piety in action, with the “ears” of obedience (in reference to ob-audire) being piety itself.

There seems to be an analogy of obedience with piety, which is followed by the use of the word “as”, which word, because it can ecclesiologically be taken a number of ways in this syntactical context, ought best to be taken in the best way.

  5. Geoffrey says:

I continue to pray for the full conversion of the SSPX and their subsequent regularization.

  6. “And if they speak about obedience to Bp. Fellay as the Superior, could they not use obedience also in respect to the Holy Father?”

Old habits die hard. Brick by brick, remember?

  7. zama202 says:

I continue to pray for the full conversion of many bishops, clergy, nuns and laypeople – and if they are unable to fully accept the Catholic faith – I pray they find a comfortable home in a Protestant sect.

  8. Maltese says:

You can’t pray for a rose to grow, you have to turn back around and water it, as well, and certainly the prayers will help.

  9. GregH says:

    Man with black hat,
Your guitar is out of tune.

  10. Supertradmum says:

Will pray the Novena to the Holy Spirit and the rosary for the SSPX.

  11. RichR says:

Pope Benedict is one of the last chances the SSPX might have for regularization. He understands the conflict since he has been involved with it since the beginning, and he earnestly desires regularization. He also is a theologian, so the theological concerns of the SSPX will be a priority for him.

If they wait too long, and PpBXVI goes to his eternal reward, if BpFellay passes away, too, and the SSPX 2nd generation rises up to take the reins of the Society, the disaffection will be all but permanent – on both sides.

Many prayers for this most-needed resolution.

  12. LionelAndrades says:

I believe in Vatican Council II and the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.
The Novus Ordo and SSPX priests do not believe in Vatican Council II or the dogma outside the Church there is no salvation.
When was the last time you heard a priest during a homily say ‘All, everyone needs Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for salvation (to avoid Hell)? (Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II).

Since the SSPX and the Novus Ordo priests assume that LG 16 (invincible ignorance) is an explicit exception to the literal interpretation of the dogma.

    Here is Ad Gentes 7:

Therefore, all must be converted to Him, made known by the Church’s preaching, and all must be incorporated into Him by baptism and into the Church which is His body. For Christ Himself “by stressing in express language the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mark 16:16; John 3:5), at the same time confirmed the necessity of the Church, into which men enter by baptism, as by a door.- Ad Gentes 7
Ad Gentes 7 is in agreement with the SSPX position on other religions and ecumenism.
SSPX needs to affirm Vatican Council II and the traditional literal interpretation of the dogma.
Oncer this is done the liberals will not be able to quote any text from Vatican Council II in their favour. Since invincible ignorance etc are know only to God and so are not explicit exceptions to the dogma.

  13. ContraMundum says:

We should evangelize as though the invincibly ignorant could not be saved, but we should pray for the dead who were never in life received into the fulness of the Church as though each of them were invincibly ignorant. We should not exaggerate either extreme to the point where it interferes with either our efforts at evangelization or with our prayers for the dead.

  14. Centristian says:

“The novena consists of praying the Veni Creator Spiritus and adding theMemorare (Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary) starting on May 8 and ending on May 16, the vigil of the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.”

Sound enough. I’m game. Can’t hurt. I wonder what they would think about me offering up the Novus Ordo Masses I attend during that time for their intention. ;^)

Yes, yes I just DID have to go there, thank you very much.

    I’ll behave now.

    No I won’t; who am I kidding? ;^)

  15. mrsmontoya says:

I will continue to pray, with fasting and abstainence today, and will try to participate in the Novena.

  16. WesleyD says:

A wonderful letter, but this sentence did give me pause:

The novena consists of praying the Veni Creator Spiritus and adding the Memorare (Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary) starting on May 8 and ending on May 16, the vigil of the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord.

Can it really be possible that there are SSPX members who don’t already know what the Memorare is?
