I note with interest in today’s Bolletino that His Excellency Nunzio Galantino, Bishop of Cassano all’Jonio and Secretary of the Italian Bishops Conference has resigned at age 66.
You might recall that Bp. Galantino has made some odd statements. For example, his comments about “expressionless persons praying rosaries outside abortion clinics”
His successor was appointed immediately, Fr. – Bishop-Elect – Francesco Savino. I’m sure you will, in your goodness, say a pray for him.
UPDATE:
From an SMS I received:
Gagliarducci: totally expected Galantino would be asked to resign so he can devote all of his considerable talents to CEI
Looking him up he’s a Capuchin and seems to be devoted to St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Great so far
No mystery here as to the “resignation”. Just last week or so the “diocese” was received in audience and the pope told them that it was time for him to give them a new pastor since Galantino was basically “on loan” since his appointment to CEI. He does seem like a shepherd who smells of The Shepherd.
Just when something like this welcome (?) news of Bishop Galantino comes along and you start to think it’s safe to put your mug above the parapet, there comes a barrage from another quarter that makes you wonder.
Here is an interesting piece published today in Rorate Caeli:
“Sovietization: Publisher of Book in defense of marriage accused of Conspiracy by Defenders of the Pontificate” – “Don’t shoot the Editor”
http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2015/02/sovietization-publisher-of-book-in.html#more
Better get your copies of Cardinal Burke’s book on marriage now before it is literally out of print.
‘The Peter Principle’
Yes I recall that now. That was a very odd statement…everybody knows that abortion facilities are not “clinics” at all.
What is CEI?
@ Rich,
‘Conferenza Episcopale Italiana’, the Italian Bishops’ Conference.
Just read the great story about Bp Morlino and then read this, what a let down for this bishop to be promoted to CEI. I simply don’t get it. Prayers for his successor.
As on who publicly witnessed for the 40 days for life in fronty of pur local hospital along with an elderly female parishioner this past weekend, and who was on the receiving of being called a F…..G, A…H…E for doing so by a “pro choice” man it would be nice for this smug bishop to publicly apologize for his offensive remarks to people who publicly witness to the sanctity of life…sorry if I sound uncharitable but I am very down after this weekend, not at all at what i experienced but that in a parish of over 4000 souls maybe only 20 people could show up to witness for life i simply don’t understand our collective apathy all the while we talk about social justice …God help us
