National Morse Code Day… and….

… National Prime Rib Day!

Try to contain the excitement!

morse code day

A frequent commentator on Ham matters here, LarryW2LJ has more.  HERE

To celebrate this day, here is the theme for Inspector Morse, one of the best TV series themes ever and a whale of a good show.

A spin off from Inspector Morse is Inspector Lewis.

  1. Rob in Maine says:

    Father,

Ha! I was out with the Scout Troop this weekend and we had the oportunity to use morse code, if only the Scouts knew it! We were across a rather wide but shallow brook (a ford of sorts) that was noisy enough to drown all shouts. I wanted to communicate to some Scouts on the far side (DON”T CROSS!) and though this is was perfect situation for a wig wag flag and semaphore (http://www.cranburyscouts.org/WigWagBL.htm) any flag waving by me would have been unreadable. Sigh.

In the end they tried to cross and three Scouts got thier sneakers and only pair of pants wet. Where were their boots? “I didn’t think I needed them.” Double Sigh.

  2. And don’t forget Endeavour, the Inspector Morse prequel. Great writing and acting.

  4. Mac_in_Alberta says:

    Morse cowed, that should be.

  5. Orphrey says:

Don’t forget the important role played by Alfred Vail in developing the code and the telegraph mechanism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Vail

Some have even proposed it should be called “Vail Code,” rather than Morse code!

  6. Jerry says:

Which is faster: Morse code or texting?
