I had a dream recently, a very vivid dream which I consider to be divinely inspired: I was walking along a lovely tranquil beach. No one was around. It looked like a beach in Greece (I had just been to the Greek islands on holiday). The beach curved ahead of me in a half moon and just beyond, were tall mountains – exactly what one sees in Greece. The sky was clear with a few clouds here and there. It must have been close to sunset. Suddenly, the scene before me changed. The mountains, the beach, the water, the sky were the same BUT they became charged with a strong energy, a very profound and divine energy that made them so much more beautiful. I knew that before me was Paradise. Heaven. I began to run towards it, as fast as I could, with my arms stretched out. Then, I woke up.

Before this dream, I had been hiking in the Dolomites in Italy; I had gone on safari in Botswana and South Africa, and I had been to a quiet Greek island. On my hikes, I would pray the Rosary (walking meditation) while admiring the stunning landscape; on safari, I would marvel at the infinite variety of bird, plant and animal life, thinking about how much more I came to love God by immersing myself in the natural beauty He had created. Going out into nature (hiking in the mountains, safari game drives) and praying a LOT have deepened my faith in ways I could never have imagined.

That’s my news. I want to thank you so very much for the encouragement you have given me, a person who has come back to the Church after decades of being away.

A stranger spontaneously gave me a pilgrim staff yesterday — and yes, I’m still contemplating another long foot pilgrimage to (and back from) Compostela if it should become possible.

The baby slept from 10:30 to 4 after waking up multiple times a night for weeks. Woo-hoo!

Also, I attended a local weekday Mass three times last week. It was such a wonderful experience I am going to try to make a weekday Mass at least once a week until the end of the year (weather permitting )

In the life of grace, the Sister Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus are coming to my home town. See here: https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2017/11/icksp-sister-adorers-come-to-england.html

In the hurly-burly, this gives me an opportunity to get rid of that wardrobe, and perhaps some other unneeded chattels.

My son received an outstanding letter of recommendation from his high school Latin teacher to use for college and scholarship applications. Reading it made me very proud to be his father.

A long time Jewish friend has been asking me more and more about the Church. He even attended my oldest daughter’s Confirmation (done in the Traditional form by our generous and wonderful bishop). I will continue to pray and not presume, but I’m liking how things are going. I’ve put him under the responsibility of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) as I prayed a Novena to her to get him out of a sticky spot at work one time. She got him off the hook, and I never let him forget it (I’ve even gave him a magnet of her to put on his fridge). So let’s hope this trajectory holds!

  7. Mikhael says:

Our family of 6 has been able to attend Mass and visit a cemetery everyday since November 1st. Yesterday was a sung Missa Pro Defunctis at our parish which was probably the first Requiem since the changes in the 60s.

  8. OCDFriar says:

I began taking In Sinu Jesu as spiritual reading during my prayer time in the presence of the tabernacle, and I am finding it to be a wonderfully enriching and consoling testimony that seems to speak directly to my soul.

Over Fifty people from all over the country attended the weekend at Douai Abbey (England) 20th- 22nd October, the theme was building small and convinced Catholic communities. There was a Votive High Mass for the Douai Martyrs, on Saturday, with Canon Vianney Poucin de Wouilt ICKSP as celebrant, Dom. Christopher Greener O.S.B. as Deacon and Fr. Lawrence Lew O.P. as Sub-Deacon; followed by a Marian Procession in honour of Our Lady of Fatima around the grounds of the Abbey. On Sunday, Fr. Lawrence Lew celebrated a Dominican Rite Sung Mass. The Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge provided the music for the Masses and also a series of Chant Workshops!

There were also 3 catechetical talks, Rosaries, two sessions of confessions, Vespers, Confessions and socials.

For a short video of the procession see:-

Our young son, who has been taking lessons for two years, played his cornet at his first public student concert the other day and I have never heard him play better! No mistakes of and kind, just pure music. I accompanied him on the piano and it was like playing with a another professional in the sense, that one doesn’t have to worry about how the other musician will perform – we enter into the flow, the beauty, where time ceases to exist and you just know, that Someone is there.

Okay, here’s my good news: St. Martin de Porres decided to add himself as a family patron saint. We rent out a room to a nice Catholic young adult. He was sponsoring a person in the parish in confirmation this weekend, and had ordered by mail a statue of St. Martin as a gift. Well, one of my kids unaccountably opened the package without looking at the address very well. But they left the statue sitting in the kitchen on the styrofoam packaging. When I came home from work I picked up the styrofoam – which broke, allowing the statue to fall onto the floor. Poor St. Martin, he lost his head. Well, I glued the head back on, but it was not a perfect job and left the statue less than happy as a gift for a newly confirmed young man. So I checked with a local shrine, and sure enough they had a statue of St. Martin, same size, but even better quality. So I bought that and gave it to my renter to give as the gift, and we get to keep the new-ish “St. Martin de Porres of the Lost Head.” I don’t have any clue why St. Martin decided the family needed another patron saint, but who am I to complain? I better read up on him and find out.

All of the good news here is delightful to read! I’m so happy for everyone! :)
Perhaps some may be interested in an update. I had asked for prayer here for my son and daughter-in-law some time back. In her second month of pregnancy she developed breast cancer and needed chemo during the pregnancy. Pregnancy and chemo, new mother and chemo. My word. The stress caused my son to have a life threatening cardiac event and we could have lost him, he coded. It was a Job story, and got even more difficult, but thanks be to God a million times, they are all well and happy, and right now on a fun vacation! Life has it’s dark times, but keep praying. He is faithful and will not leave us. Deepest thanks to anyone who prayed for them. Your prayers helped and I’m grateful. God bless all here.

  16. SanSan says:

At morning Mass, the Priest celebrant sat down during distribution of Communion (to 25 in attendance) and left it to 4 Extrodinary Ministers of the Eucharist–2 for the Body, and 2 for the Blood. There were 3 Priests in attendance at Mass and 2 Deacons. I will receive Jesus only by “adnointed” hands, so I wrote my Pastor about the incident, hoping that he would “hear” me this time……He did! Next day he celebrated the Mass and only he distributed Communion. He still had 2 EM’s to offer the chalice :(, but we are making progress. I pray that he “hears” the message that Extrodinary Ministers of the Eucharist are not “always” necessary. Baby steps.

  17. DD says:

Our daughter and son-in-law are expecting their first baby (our first grandchild) this spring. Thank you to all of you who have helped make it possible for me to move this from the Urgent Prayer Requests to Sharing Good News. In my heart, this sweet baby will always be Rosario, because of years of daily rosaries prayed for this outcome. God is good.
