They have the best comfort food and deli items to die for.
Where would you be without your camera, Father Z? :-)
What kind of sandwich is that, Father?
Sorry. It’s lunchtime here. Mmmm…
Cecil’s is great. When the Providence Academy track team was at Section finals at Macalester, I made a special trip over there to get sandwiches for me and another coach, who was a vegetarian and loved the vegie sandwich I bought her. Enjoy that kosher pickle, Father!
Tried the Vinegar diet?
Egg Creammmmmmm!
With U-Bet syrup?
If you are from Hoboken, It’s a Chocolate Bubble!
Semper Fi!
Being from the New York Metropolitan area myself, and being a University Student at UST (two streets away from Cecils, I can say, its personal Minnesota favorite.
My spouse’s favorite is the Just Like New York sandwich with a huge wad of pastrami and some kind of coleslaw type thing on top rather than sauerkraut.
Don’t know about this, Father. Looks like you’re in the Big Apple to me! LOL!
nothing beats a good deli. Fresh, Authentic…
For the record…Subway, Quizno’s , Blimpies, Dont count.
You got a real gem there, I am envious. Most of the good deli’s around me arent around anymore
Is it necessary to confess that I attended college near Cecil’s and have lived nearby it for a decade but have never set foot inside? As a penance I will have to stop in.
OK, I just have to ask – With all the nummy food I’ve seen on your sight, how the heck do you stay so thin????
And just like the best delis, the menu hasn’t changed in 30 years. There might even be a 30 year old mustard stain on yours.
I wonder if Fr. Z. has ever been positively ID’d in a place like this? It’s a little eerie seeing photos of people just going about their day, and yet FATHER ZUHLSDORF IS RIGHT THERE!
Reminds me of Shilo’s here in SA. Great sandwiches, phenomenal sausage, cheese and other goodie take-away.
What’s that green stuff on the sammich? Was it dropped on the floor?
ooooo, that looks good. I am stuck with my own cooking tonight–sigh. I have no talent for it even though I have many many years of working at it.
Cecil’s – ah, Father, you are a man of discriminating taste!
With all respect, Father, not all the good eat joints are in St. Paul. In Minneapolis, right off the River, in the shadow of Our Lady of Lourdes, is Kramarczuk’s – Ukrainian butcher shop, bakery, and deli. Wonderful food. You have not lived until you’ve had a Ukrainian sausage with kapusta, or a holubets, or pyrohy, or a Krakówska sandwich. Do try it. Smachnoho!
Fr. Z,
If you are feeling adventurous, go back to your old stomping grounds in Frogtown and visit Fasika’s Ethiopian off of Snelling. Fabulous authentic Ethiopian food at Fasikas!

I also vote for Kramarczuk’s. Their restaurant serves fabulous meats and they are always running specials. For awhile they had a Thursday night prime rib dinner special that was incredible both in value and quality. If you didn’t mind it served in a deli. http://www.kramarczuk.com/
