NYC 11 June, pm, Corpus Christi TLM and procession

From a reader:

Today, June 11, 2009, at 6PM, there will be a Solemn Mass for the Feast of Corpus Christi at the Church of the Holy Innocents (NYC) followed by a Procession in the Church and Benediction.  Fr. Richard Trezza, OFM will be the celebrant, Fr Michael Barone deacon and Brian Graebe subdeacon.  David Hughes will direct the choir that will sing Palestrina’s Missa Lauda Sion.
This Mass begins a Novena of Traditional Latin Masses offered for Vocations to the Priesthood and Priestly Sanctity to coincide with the beginning of the Pope’s Year for Priests.  The Novena concludes with a Solemn Pontifical Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Bishop Fernando Rifan, celebrant.  All of the Novena Masses will be celebrated  in the presence of a First Class Relic of St. John Vianney.

    Nice!

For those around Washington, D.C., there will be a 7:30 p.m. Missa Cantata and an indoor procession (thanks to the constant rain here) at Saint Mary’s at 5th and H streets, NW.

Good luck to all choirs on the 24-verse Sequence today…

Bill Leininger — I assume you mean on the Second Sunday After Pentecost? The above TLMs and processions are for Corpus Christi tonight.

  6. Colin Vautrinot says:

    Ken,

Actually this Sunday is the feast within the the Octave of Corpus Christi. But Sacred Heart on Staten Island will be celebration the extraordinary form this coming Sunday. As will be St. Agnes on 43rd in Manhattan.

  7. Argon says:

Actually, the Octave of Corpus Christi was abolished by that vandal Bugnini in teh 1960 rubrics (which govern the 1962 Missal), along with many other holy and beautiful things. Did I mention the man was a vandal?

So, unfortunately, if the External Solemnity of CC is not observed (and that may only be observed at the principal Mass of the Sunday), the Mass this Sunday will be that of the 2nd after Pentecost, green vestments, preface of the Most Holy Trinity.
