Right now the ability to post comments freely is shut down.  You must be a registered user at this moment in order to comment.

I was doing registration manually for a while.

I now have a self registration process in place.  CLICK HERE.

I will have to approve the registration, which I do on my own schedule.

If you sent a request for registration and did not hear back, drop me a line.

I am working the bugs out of this registration feature.

There may be a time when I open up free commenting again… and/or shut it off.

Registering and logging in can help you avoid the headache.

Since putting up this post a little while ago, a couple dozen people have registered.  It seems to be working properly.

BTW… if you decide you are not going to provide the information I ask for, I might decide not to approve your registration.  Most of what I ask for is not going to be displayed on the blog even if you do decide to comment.

UPDATE 3 Aug 1256 GMT

Quite a few of you have registered.  I will keep checking during the day to sign you in.

Folks, I am not just sitting at my computer hitting the refresh key.  I am going to have to review and approve the registrations as is convenient for me.  I am trying to review them and approve them in blocks.

UPDATE 7 Aug 1432 GMT

I find that when people have included something in their biographical blurb, which doesn’t appear on the blog when and if they comment, I am able more quickly to approve their registration.  FYI.  Also, I tend to delete right away people who think they do not need a username, or who simply put initials in the first and last name spots.

UPDATE 11 Aug 2145 GMT

Quite a few of you have registered.  Remember…if you register, you have to wait for me to approve the registration.  I look at them pretty often, but I am not always looking.

Thank you, Father, and it’s good to have you back. Prayers at 3pm Pacific for you, in response to your request.

  2. RVisotski says:

Thank you for the enhancement, Father. As a point, when I tried signing in on the confirmation, I kept receiving a “Invalid username” message that appeared to be keeping me from signing in, but then I received the “confirmation of the confirmation” and here I am. It seems as if the Sunday afternoon computer gnomes, are hard at work. Oremus Pro Invicem.

  3. DanW says:

Just checking to see if it works, and it appears to be working. Thank you very much Fr. Z

  4. Thanks, Fr. Z. Appears to work very well on this end.

  5. jjoy says:

    Thank you, Fr. Z!

  6. mrsmontoya says:

Fr Z, you have been tolerant and moderate in your restrictions. Thank you for that, and for only imposing restrictions at a minimal level.

  7. sekman says:

Thanks, Fr. Z. This is great, hopefully with only registered users allowed to post comments will remain sensible and informative.

  8. Massachusetts Catholic says:

Thank you, Father Z. I will try to behave!

  11. baymedlevel says:

Good to have u back in the states. I did enjoy your choices of restraunts and foods.

  12. Hidden One says:

There has been – in my view – a great improvement in the quality of the comments here of late… now that drive-by trolling is no longer possible (and blocking all the more easy and effective), I imagine that the comment culture here will be radically different than it was. While I have noticed great improvements over the past number of months, this has so far gone far above and beyond them, and things shall hopefully stay this way.

Father, I appreciate your allowance of my participation here, and also for your continued and effective efforts in creating and improving a good, Catholic culture in your comboxes.

I recall one post of yours, Father, which I believe was posted at the start of Lent in this year, wherein you reposted a letter of departure of someone who was (quite justly) upset with the standard combox fare. I hope that it is or already has proven safe for said unhappy person to return, and I hope that if he or she does or has already done so, that there has and will be no further scandal.

  13. Marlon says:

I am just checking this out too. All appears to be well. Thanks, Father Z.

Thanks for letting me on board, Father.

  15. Apparently I’d already registered. Or e.e. cummings did so for me. Thanks, Father. And e.e.

  16. eulogos says:

Apparently I also had already registered, at some point. This will prevent me from making comments from my work computer , I think, but that’s just as well, really. If this saves you some annoyance, it is worth it.

  45. Geometricus says:

Thank you Father for providing this interesting and informative forum where I can always count on being challenged and learning something, even when I don’t agree with some posters. At least now perhaps the most egregious trolls will not get in the way, but as with most “fixes” of internet annoyances, the relief may be short-lived…we keep changing spam filters at work, only to be infiltrated again some months later.

  46. PatrickJude says:

Thanks Rev. Fr. For the voice. Your blog is one of my “daily must read” though to be hnoest, I seldom comment unless there’s something that I feel I can contribute, but most of the time, your readers would have already said something along the same line of thinking, so why bother to repeat. Anyway.. continue the good work and I definitely will continue to visit this rather enligthening blog.

    God Protect and Preserve you.

  47. Rachel says:

    Testing. Oh joy!

  48. isabella says:

Just wanted to test this. Thank you, because I apparently needed manual intervention. Suggestion: How about a thread for nothing other than testing. Kind of like this is turning into :)

  49. Mike says:

    Thanks Father

  50. GOR says:

    Testing… Gratias agimus…

  51. Josephus Muris Saliensis says:

    Thanks, Father, just to test.

I wish everyone, especially priests, a Happy Feast of St Jean-Marie Vianney.

  52. irishgirl says:

    I know I’ve already made a comment here, but…

Happy Feast of St. Jean-Marie Vianney, Father Z!

And thanks for your ‘comment’, paladin!

I finally was able to log in. I am not sure what the problem was but I was in some kind of word press purgatory where I kept asking for my password and when I clicked on the verification, it kept telling me I had an invalid key. Whatever, it’s working now!

  58. Reginald Pole says:

Thank you, Father, for my activation. I promise to always follow the Golden Rule when posting.

  59. jaykay says:

Many thanks, Father. Even though the anti-spam words don’t appear now, I hope I will always bear in mind the “THINK BEFORE POSTING” one!

  60. marajoy says:

Awww…I actually sort of enjoyed reading (and laughing at) some of the ridiculous things people would say! (It was half the reason I read this blog… tee hee…)

  61. rosebudsal says:

Well, I’d logged in a long time ago, and am just testing to see if I’m still able to comment. Glad you’re on top of things, Father.
