Irohamomiji is beautiful. Fireglow?
Konichiwa: Japanese maple.
I do enjoy your bird postings, Father. Thanks for this!
What a wonderful bird photo of birdseed on the tongue.
Love the father and son picture. The bonsai trees look like they are enjoyng the summer. Are the trees very old, Father? They seem so by looking at the trunks, especially the top & bottom photos.
Thanks for the photos.
‘Birdseed on the tongue’-good one, susanna!
Love your birdie and tree pics, Father Z!
‘Benign neglect’-sounds like what I’ve done with plants in the past! I am soooo ‘not’ a gardener!
Yes Fr., but I was curious as to which type of Japanese maple it is. I’m no expert, but judging by the size and color of the leaves, perhaps ‘Red Emperor’.
Nevermind. I did some digging on your blog and found out that it is Arakawa. Either way. I thought that that cultivar is usually green and turns red-orange only in the fall.
Konichiwa: This seems to be red and reddish all the time, though some leaves have hints of green. You see the green especially in the late evening sun.
Also, I re-potted this tree in the spring and it is doing much better. I changed the soil composition to help it drain better and replaced the truly ugly pot it was in. This pot was provided by a kind reader of the blog, as a matter of fact – from the wishlist.
Love the fact that one of the trees has a pair of pet pandas…
