TEOTWAWKI? Double blast CME heading towards Earth.

If the media, mind-clouding, thought-befuddling blitz on the part of catholic and other outlets – Fishwrap, Amerika, RNS, Crux – weren’t bad enough, we have to think about this too.

I sure hope you have BOBs ready.

From SpaceWeather:

STORM WARNING (UPDATED): Among space weather forecasters, confidence is building that Earth’s magnetic field will receive a double-blow from a pair of CMEs on Sept. 12th.  [Coronal Mass Ejections… which strike your planet’s atmosphere] The two storm clouds were propelled in our direction by explosions in the magnetic canopy of sunspot AR2158 on Sept. 9th and 10th, respectively. Strong geomagnetic storms are possible on Sept. 12th and 13th as a result of the consecutive impacts. Sky watchers, even those at mid-latitudes, [Not “high” latitudes.] should be alert for auroras in the nights ahead. Aurora alerts:textvoice

EARTH-DIRECTED X-FLARE AND CME: Sunspot AR2158 erupted on Sept. 10th at 17:46 UT, producing an X1.6-class solar flare. A flash of ultraviolet radiation from the explosion (movie) ionized the upper layers of Earth’s atmosphere, disturbing HF radio communications for more than an hour. More importantly, the explosion hurled a CME directly toward Earth. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory photographed the expanding cloud:

Updated: Radio emissions from shock waves at the leading edge of the CME indicate that the cloud tore through the sun’s atmosphere at speeds as high as 3,750 km/s. By the time it left the sun’s atmosphere, however, the cloud had decellerated to 1,400 km/s. This makes it a fairly typical CME instead of a “super CME” as the higher speed might suggest.

Even with a downgrade in speed, this CME has the potential to trigger significant geomagnetic activity when it reaches Earth’s magnetic field during the mid-to-late hours of Sept. 12th. NOAA forecasters estimate an almost-80% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Sept. 12-13.

I’m sure demons get a good laugh whenever they read the new Crux website. A news/opinion website that peddles catholicism without the cross and yet calls itself “Cross”. It’s too rich.

  2. One can only hope. But thanks for the warning; I won’t try to set up and reconfigure the new computer this weekend!

Sounds like I should make sure the matches are not damp. And pick up more fuel for the grill.

    Father,
    Yes.
I say that, but none of us are truly ready for life off the grid for an extended time.
    None.
But I am in a state of grace. Thanks to your passion about reminding us all.
    :)

I have such horribly unreliable satellite Internet here in the sticks maybe these blasts will improve things….can’t be worse. When the pilots practice over this area, the planes, of course interfere with the coverage, as does the wind, the rain, and whatever…

This may sound paranoid, but are we sure this is accurate info? Could it be disinformation planted in case the Islamic State or Iran or someone launches an EMP attack? The immediate result would be similar, but if people think it’s a natural event, they’ll be highly accommodating to governmental officials while if they think it’s due to the incompetence of the administration, things might be a bit different.

Are you ready for the lights to go out?

    Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Anything less than a massive horde of cannibals, insane with hunger for human flesh, attacking from all sides all at once at a full-sprint is going to have a very bad day if they come to my home will evil intentions.

Yeah… I should probably put my copy of (both the book and the movie) “The Road”, along with all my other “WTSHTF-themed books” back on the shelf…

In all seriousness: I’m more than ready, just leave it at that.

  9. ready with an LED battery op. lantern.Dratz…no coffee.

Are we prepared for the most awesome light show in a long time? I would love to be up there with a lawn chair, soaking it up!

  11. Lady Catcliffe says:

You mean there was a CME on 2 days this week, including the day President Obama announced increased countermeasures against the Islamic State, including potential attacks in Syria – home of the plains of Megiddo – that, on the day the US government told us, “We are at war,” could produce an aurora that could rival the 1938 one that preceded World War II?

    Just sayin’.

“Are you ready for the lights to go out?”

    They went out in 1969.
Fortunately there are a few candles burning here and there: (Like WDTPRS.com and a few other blogs and a few Bishops).

Yep. Preferably for thee days :)
