Note from a reader about CONFESSION

I received this note today:

Let me share something with you as a note of appreciation on this Holy Vigil.

You always write: GO TO CONFESSION! And I did. After thirteen years…

When the session ended, my confessor, Father J, said the following: “that was a good confession, you made my evening, Today, I got a big fish!”

I found his comment very funny.

Thank you Father Z for hitting my soul regularly to go to Confession. Thank you for your guidelines to confess my sins. Above all, for explaining and insisting on why do we need to go to Confession.

Continue to enjoy Rome, we enjoy it together.

Great note.  Made my day.

I’d like to say, “My work here is done!”, but it clearly is not.

To the rest of you, I will remind you…

GO TO CONFESSION!

Confess all the mortal sins of which you are aware in both kind (what you did) and number (even if just general guess).  Don’t hold anything back.  Just say it, briefly.  At the end, make a note of your penance so you understand and won’t forget it.  Thank Father before leaving.

Just a note to say thank you, Father, for your timely and frequent reminders about the need for Confession, how to make a good Confession, and, of course, your tireless efforts to remind us actually to go to Confession! My three oldest and I availed ourselves of this Sacrament yesterday with the holy Carmelites at Holy Hill–the lines were managed well, always plenty of people waiting but moving through in good order.

In the past, you have posted some prayers for us to pray after Confession, thanking God for His confessors. Perhaps you could repost, or include a link? Always a noble thing to do, after satisfying one’s penance, to pray for the priests whose ministry makes this Sacrament available to us!

I went to confession for the first time in over a year on Good Friday. It felt good. It was immediately after the Good Friday liturgy… 3 priests (Dominican friars) were hearing confessions. Big line. Allowed me to fulfill my Easter duty today….
