Your Good News

Do you have good news for the readership?

I haven’t asked this for a while.  However, today is of such a kind that good news would help.

Firstly, I read that the Marians of the Immaculate Conception have voted to return to the use of their white habit which they used from their founding in 1671 until 1909.    Since everything they do is, as they say, “tinted” by the Immaculate Conception, they had a white habit.  Because in the Russian Empire (where they were) there was extreme persecution, they switched to the black diocesan cassock or even lay clothes.  Now, however, the members will have the choice to use either but they are encouraged to use white, especially on certain feasts.

Next, because I don’t watch much news these days I am way behind on the matter of the horrible and fatal fire in Maui, Hawaii.  However, I did learn a piece of good news.

It seems that the Catholic Church in that place, Maria Lanakila (Our Lady of Victory) Catholic Church, where St. Damian had preached, remained unburned while the whole surroundings were pretty much destroyed.  Another good news element is that this church was the place of the somewhat intermittent Traditional Latin Mass.  Biretta tip to Ann.  o{]:¬)   She posted a screenshot from a phone of a Fakebook page.  HERE   A look at parish website and several bulletins suggests that the place leans a little to the left liturgically and perhaps theologically, although there are some regular devotions.  Confessions for only one hour on Saturday afternoon before their NO “vigil” Mass, which means confessions are not for an hour.  There are no mentions of the TLM on the site or in the bulletins, but that’s par for the course right now.

St Anne Church, FSSP( TLM) in San Diego is planning to build, in one of the suburbs, El Cajon, ” a more glorious church to glorify Our Lord and Blessed Mother” this from the priest/pastor a couple of Sundays ago.
Well St. Anne Church isn’t at all shabby to say the least, far from it!!
Every Mass is full, lines outside to get in…even at times the overflow room is full and the cry room with young families and dozens of children, all properly attired, of course to honor God and not themselves.
Good news indeed that even in San Diego the TLM is thriving and those who bring it to us through priestly vocations are looking forward expanding the territory!!

For my fellow Latinist Restorationists, I have lately discovered this channel, “Litterae Christianae”:

    https://youtube.com/@litteraechristianae

It is show by a priest from Brazil, in Latin, about Latin literature and the Faith. He has also published a spiffy little book in Latin, his Masters thesis, about the relationship between Faith and Letters in St. Augustine and Petrarch. I’ve been reading it and it’s quite enjoyable.

The Institute of Christ King Sovereign Priest bought the old Franciscan Friary in Burlington WI. It will now be Sacred Heart Retreat Center.

Have found better and stable employment close to home. I’m a truck driver and in Canada the industry has taken a beating. So finding a decent place post lockdown has been a blessing.
Expecting baby #7, sixth this side of Heaven.
Our baby will be the fourth baby born from my family on my siblings side at the same hospital in a six month period! My sister is due in two weeks, my brother and wife in three weeks, my other brother and wife in four months and us in five. 24 grandchildren in 14 years! God is good.

And it’s the little things. Sale on Costco sausage! Bought four packs and froze em.

My… how full of rigidness and spiritual worldliness…

I hope they don’t find an apostolic visitor knocking at their door.

    Hello Father-
Not ‘good’ news, but interesting as you referenced Maria Lanakila church in Hawaii. The following are direct quotes of August 17 from the Star-Advertiser newspaper in Honolulu. In referring to the Church (which appears in pretty good shape):

“…an engineer could inspect the building, determine that it unsafe and recommend that it be knocked down.”

In reference to secular government buildings, it was said:

“…suffered substantial damage but are likely to be salvageable with enough funds…”

I have seen the ‘torn down’ reference in others news venues as well.

Do you detect an underlying evil working here?

Yes, Maria Lanakila in Lahaina is the only church on the island that offers the TLM. They offer it on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month.

It is also only one of 2 churches that offer the TLM for the Diocese of Honolulu. The other church that offers the TLM in the diocese is Blessed Sacrament on Oahu.

Maria Lanakila is a beautiful, little church. Fr. Damien preached there and resided there briefly before heading off to Molokai to take care of the lepers.

Our Lady of Victories, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us and for the people and first responders of Lahaina!

My good news is that our third son has entered seminary. One is now a Deacon. I will not mention the diocese (they are all in for the diocese), but I will ask for continued prayers for all seminarians. Please pray for their orthodox formation (and philosophical and theological education), and for our bishop to support and defend orthodoxy. My sons love the TLM and hope to bring it to the average Catholic in the pews. Dear Lord, cover them with your Precious Blood!
