ASK FATHER: Book about Mary in the Old Testament

From a reader…

QUAERITUR:

Father,
Merry Christmas, almost.
I’m looking a resource/s that will help me see Our Lady in the Old Testament. I know there are many passages that allude, foreshadow or indirectly tell us about her. I would like to get to know her through the scriptures. Would you have suggestions for a book for me? I have non Catholic friends who say Mary is NOT contained in the Old Testament. But I know she is there.
You may not have time now for this now, but If you would put this request in the queue, I would appreciate it.
May the Christ Child bring abundant blesses to you this Christmas.

And to you and yours as well!

Immediately there springs to mind a fine book by Brant Pitre, a gifted scholar and writer.

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary: Unveiling the Mother of the Messiah

I have this book and I think it is just the thing you are looking for.

The Pitre book is probably more thorough and comprehensive. I have not read it, but have heard many great reviews on it. Many years ago now, John Henry Cardinal Newman’s short treatise, Mary, the Second Eve, was enough to convince me to accept that Our Lady is indeed specially blessed among men. I who was a fundamentalist anti-Catholic protestant.

I was once gifted a book called “Crushing satan’s head” by Father Mawdsley. It is solely about Our Lady in the Old Testament. Very concise and original!
