I hope Fr. V isn’t holding his breath. We all know that no such measures will be taken with anyone championing any of the anti-Catholic progressive causes. No one will be punished for LGBTQ+ Masses. No one will be punished for liturgical abuses or for supporting abortion or for holding interfaith communion services with Protestants or, at this point, even Muslims.
There’s only one group that is allowed to be punished in today’s Church. And the only difference between being “in communion” with the Church or not is the severity of the punishment.

Well, it’s no surprise that the effectiveness of the excommunications is in doubt. It would simply be too much to ask for CLARITY from the Vatican.
An incomplete list of doubts:
* Cdl Fernandez may have used a form that lacks penal effectiveness
* Does the form matter if it incurs a late sentencia excommunication anyway
* Arguably, Cdl Fernandez may have latae sentencia excommunicated himself previously for various shenanigans
* Does emergency actually excuse the disobedience
Not to mention, if the pope wanted it done, why didn’t he do it *himself* instead of delegating to a questionable cardinal ???
The lack of clarity from Rome is scandalous. I mean, isn’t that supposed to be Job #1?

Part of what I teach my kids through their catechism is how so much of God’s salvific plan was to establish certainty regarding Himself, His plan, and His grace. Christ’s miracles and resurrection help give us certainty regarding His identity. The marks of the Church are to give us certainty regarding which out of the many claimants is the Church He established. The form and matter of the sacraments is to give us certainty regarding the grace He has given us, so that we do not have to doubt even if the priest himself turns out to be a scoundrel. If the matter and form were correct, the grace was there.
So much about the direct of the Church since Vatican II, especially under Francis and, sadly, not at all rectified by Leo, is to destroy this certainty. Where there once was certainty there is doubt, and lots of it. Doubt about doctrine, doubt about the matter and form of the sacraments (with the forms all radically changed and in many cases no longer strictly adhered to by improvisational priests). Doubt about salvation and what is required for salvation. Doubt about sin and what is sin. And an absolute flood of words, words, words – using 20,000 words where 100 would do in decrees and encyclicals that nobody reads anymore, and if they do read them they usually can’t understand them, and if one is to understand them properly one must also understand all of the hundreds of footnotes.
It seems that destroying clarity has been Rome’s #1 job for a long time. It’s probably one of the reasons the SSPX is so hated – they are trying to preserve the teaching and practices of the Church which were beacons of clarity for hundreds of years.
