- Prosper of Aquitaine (+c.455), De gratia Dei et libero arbitrio contra Collatorem 22.61
St. John Eudes
“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

PLEASE subscribe via PayPal if it is useful. Zelle and Wise are better, but PayPal is convenient.
A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?
For a one time donation...
"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Are you attending? I know some Canadians who are going.
Tickets for the beatification Mass are selling for $15 per seat.
But isn’t Mass supposed to be free of charge?
Canon 1221. Entry to a church is to be free and gratuitous during the time of sacred celebrations.
Even if the Mass is being held in a stadium rather than a church, it seems wrong to charge admission to Mass.
First, it is NOT in a church. Also, do you suppose that use of the stadium is without expense? You might not know this, but the Actor (the person or entity which advances a cause in the first place) is responsible for all the expenses related to the cause thereafter. That can be a considerable amount, particularly in the cause of a modern person, from living memory, whom a lot of people knew and who had a large body of work. Travel for interviews… salaries for people who do translations or studies… creation of the volumes of research … on and on and on.
I know, as I already said, that canon law only forbids charging admission to sacred celebrations when they take place inside of a church.
I also know that there are large expenses for a beatification Mass, such as renting a large stadium, as well as huge expenses for the whole beatification process. But most of the expenses listed would still be present if the Mass took place in a church.
I still think it would be good to avoid even the mere appearance of “charging” for attendance at Mass. We have a long tradition of asking for freewill donations, even very large donations. And we have taken up collections at the offertory, and second collections, since the time of the Apostles, and St Justin Martyr.
Why not ask Fulton Sheen’s former employers, including NBC Radio and the ABC television network, to foot the entire bill for the stadium? They certainly profited from his shows. Likewise, his sponsors, like Ivory Soap. And they would get good publicity. I think Fulton Sheen himself would have asked them.
It is only my opinion, but I would prefer free admission, free tickets for Mass. Station hundreds of Knights of Columbus around the venue with large plastic buckets, asking for voluntary donations.
If I were pope. But I’m not.
$15 isn’t much, compared with travel and lodging. It certainly isn’t concert or game ticket prices, so I doubt very much that it will cover more than the rent.
Will it be livestreamed?
