My View For Awhile – Flight Day

And we’re off!

Strange thing: not another car at the curb at drop off, no one in line at checkin, and I the only person at security!  Even the agents were surprised.

The airport is quiet.

A snack.

So far so good.

I ask your prayers.

UPDATE

The flight was really bumpy, so there was no cabin service.  And the seats… good grief.

At check-in I asked if upgrade seat had been unblocked.  “Yes.  There’s one for $4078.”

Anyway I’m in the lounge for a while but I may leave and stroll a bit.

  2. Flying to Europe is more stressful and it seems more expensive than flying to Asia. What I find even more frustrating are connecting flights. I booked a flight to Germany on Lufthansa with a connecting flight on Lufthansa to Greece. The connecting flight was not a Lufthansa flight but a budget subsidiary. Just one small bottle of water was provided. A cup of coffee was 10 Euro or more. A large plane, narrow body, with only two restrooms at the back of the plane. So basically the choice is facing dehydration or having a catheter before we travel! Travelling around Europe by plane is not fun.

    Fr. Z:

Flying in the middle of the week sounds like a good idea when you can!

Anyway, I hope your longer flight to FCO went pretty good and if it wasn’t crowded you probably enjoyed it more. Hopefully you got a few hours sleep to minimize jet lag.

About a year ago I had a later evening flight home from Miami that was only about 60 percent full. It was something travelers don’t experience much today.

I’m finding it harder to get upgrades, too. Perhaps it’s the extreme pressure of jet fuel prices.

“Travelling around Europe by plane is not fun.” As the saying goes, your mileage may vary. I was in 9 EU airports a couple months ago. At one end of the spectrum, Berlin Brandenburg was a breeze. Conversely, Paris Orly was approaching Dante’s 7th or 8th level, as their security screening took 2+ hours as their staff seemingly examined every lotion and bottle of shampoo.

Father, for what it’s worth, have you considered switching your status to United? SpaceX WiFi for free, and all your miles and status come with you

We are flying out Monday to Kelfavik Iceland as part of a “bucket list” European tour that will get us to Rome on the 17th. Not looking forward to the plane trip although leaving Boston at 11 PM there won’t be any food to worry about. Maybe you’ll still be in Rome? We are planning to be at “the Parish” on the 18th for Mass.

I was wondering if Fr.Z was going to Rome in October? Of course he is! I must still be experiencing jet lag from a recent trip to the UK- don’t know how I missed this- and yes, I always travel with my guardian angels-I think the Lord has given me several/the coward I am! Enjoy Father- hope you are feeling better.
