What else would we use? I spent this last week taking the black Roman chasuble, simple alb and biretta around to the classrooms.
I: “Why will Father be wearing black on Monday?”
3rd Grade Student: “Because, Father, black is the color of sin and we need to pray for souls in Purgatory so they can go to Heaven.”
I: (After nearly bursting into tears of joy and picking my jaw up off of the ground) “If I had a gold star I would give it to you.”

I was always taught that indulgences done on All Souls can only be applied to the faithful departed. Is that true?
A priest friend was vesting for Mass on All Soul’s Day last year. He is a younger, associate pastor. The older priest saw what he was doing and chewed him out for about 5 minutes, saying that the parishoners couldn’t possibly understand what he was doing and that vesting in black was wrong, etc., etc., My priest friend listened patiently. When the older priest felt that he had thoroughly explained why he shouldn’t wear black vestments, he left. My priest friend continued dressing in his black vestments and celebrated Mass that way.
I don’t believe I have ever seen a priest wear black vestments in my () years. I wonder if it would be going out on a limb to speak with our Pastor and if he agreed, offer to pay for a set of black vestments?
I’ve e-mailed my priest to ask if he’ll be wearing violet. He wears white for funerals (I’ve made it very clear to him that if he so much as thinks of wearing white for my funeral, should he be the celebrant, I will haunt him), so I doubt I can expect him not to on Monday. I didn’t even bother mentioning black because I know there’s no way he owns black vestments.
Is the plenary indulgence on All Souls Day totius quotius? OR can we only get one on that day for A poor soul?
