From Catholic Culture:
Policeman shoots 4 Christians in Egypt
Less than two weeks after a church bombing in Alexandria left 21 Coptic Christians dead, an off-duty policeman shot four Christians on a train, killing a 71-year-old man. A fifth person was also wounded.
“This lunatic went up and down the coach looking for Christians,” said Coptic Orthodox Bishop Morcos of Shobra El-Kheima, who had spoken with witnesses to the shooting. “Seeing a group of girls and women who were not wearing the [Islamic’ veil, he took them for Christians and fired, shouting Allahu Akbar [Allah is great].”
The new attack on Christians came just after the Egyptian government announced that it was recalling its ambassador from the Holy See, in a protest against the Pope’s statement that the country must do more to protect Christians. Before returning to Cairo the ambassador, Lamia Aly Hamada Mekhemar, met with Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States.
A Vatican statement after the meeting said that the Egyptian envoy “described the concerns of her government at this present difficult time.” The statement indicated that Archbishop Mamberti “gave assurances that the it also fully shares the Egyptian government’s concern to avoid the escalation of religiously motivated conflict and tensions, and appreciates the efforts being made to that end.”

Sts. Nunilo and Alodia, pray for us.
Does the United Nations say anything? Does our president say anything? Brave, brave Pope Benedict and God bless the Coptic Christians.
Wonderful… what ever happened to Islam being a “religion of peace”?
Oh dear God. I am in Cairo now and things seem calm but I noticed (Latin rite) Mass on Sunday was nearly empty.
Ceile De,
Do not worry, pray to Sts. Nunilo and Alodia for protection. Be sure that you will be in my prayers as I pray for all those Christians who have died/are going to die from persecution.
God Bless.

His Grace Bishop Suriel concerning recent attacks against Copts in Alexandra
And here in the West, our biggest dilemma is the abortion issue. While in the East Christians, both Orthodox and Catholic, are being slaughtered. Where are the rallys and marches in the West against that. Oh I forgot, it doesn’t have anything to do with SEX!!. Well when there are no more Christians left, we won’t have to worry about abortion, will we!. Sorry for my rant!!. This is a VERY serious issue!!.
We are messing around with cucumber sandwiches and sherry, while these heathen are making no bones about declaring actual, bloody war against Christianity and the entire West.
“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”
Winnie had it right.
‘Islam is a religion of peace’ ……………..right and my cat reguarly plays the Pianno to sell out crowds at the Kennedy Centre

Some good videos to watch.
If you want to see a church on fire with zeal, watch the “Christian Youth Channel” (Coptic Orthodox). The Silverlight link (they call it the “New one”) works the best. This is probably how the Early Church would have used TV if it had been available and the signal could have come from somewhere outside the Roman Empire.

Videos are in Arabic, sorry. But a good website to learn about the Copts.
The threat is real here too. On Orthodox Christmas Eve I received an email from my city police dept. that a credible/probable threat was issued against all Coptic Orthodox temples in the US. They also notified my parish because we are the closest Orthdox temple to the conservative mosque in my city. Thus I had to have patrols running at the Vigil, and police out front on Christmas day. Statistically I believe it is only a matter of time until we see the same such loathsome attacks here in America.
If there is one cause the Roman and Orthodox Catholics can unite on it should be this. I believe the Holy Father knows this, as do most of the Orthodox Patriarchs.

becket1–am I misunderstanding something? Abortion. Persecution of Christians. Two evil, terrible things out of many evil, terrible things from which Our Lord came to redeem us. Your post makes it sound like opposing abortion is an unimportant thing. I’m not sure what your point is. I agree it’s sad and a sign of our secular world that no attention is given in the media to the slaughter of Christians. But it’s not surprising because Jesus said it would happen.
When are Roman Catholic clergy going to give equal time to both issues. That’s my point!. Wh ynot have a march on Washington with our Orthodox brethren against the violence in Egypt. With our Bishops and Archbishops leading the line.
Blessed Charles de Foucauld (martyred in Algeria during French colonization):
“If we don’t convert them, they will chase us (the french people) away”…
And those who won’t leave, they will slaughter them
Barry Rubin in this post, http://rubinreports.blogspot.com/2011/01/if-one-extremist-gunmen-can-do-so-much.html, notices that the criminal in Arizona did not shout “Rush Limbaugh akbar!”.
The article talks about the ‘media climate of hate’ in the middle east where “But in the Middle East, people are often considered insane if they do NOT do these things, or at least support others performing such deeds. And as public opinion polls demonstrate, those are not considered to be evil, marginal lunatics but heroes whose example should be followed.” Read the whole thing.
(Ironic that this assault follow fast on Tucson.)
\\Oh dear God. I am in Cairo now and things seem calm but I noticed (Latin rite) Mass on Sunday was nearly empty.\\
And did you think that Cairo was teeming with Latin Catholics?
Did you try going to the Coptic Orthodox or Coptic Catholic Church, which most of the Christians in Egypt would be?
I understand that in Egypt, Copts throng churches on Fridays, which is usually a day off for them.
Here, at least is some good news from Egypt regarding Coptic Christians : http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/3365.aspx
Muslims gather around the Coptic Christians’ Church, using themselves as “human shields” to protect the Christians on their Christmas eve celebration. I have never heard of such a thing! Could enough of the Muslims in Egypt be awakening to the hijacking of their religion?
Egypt says, “This is an internal matter and we and our Pope should just butt out.” I guess the murderer with get whipped with a wet noodle for murdering Egyptians who happen to be Christians. After that, he gets promoted for being a good Muslim.
We the people need to do something like boycott Egypt, Iraq, Pakista etc…all the nations who persecute Christians. Nothing will happen if we wait for our government that is already infested, infiltrated by Muslim supporters.
There is a perfectly reasonable interpretation of the phrase “the religion of peace”. If Christians want peace in Egypt they can convert. To underscore just how much Islam mean peace, watch what happens if you convert fromIslam.
In Arabic islam means peace, and peace means submission.
