With EWTN today.

This afternoon I did a short segment with EWTN about Benedict XVI and liturgy. These segments are really too short. You don’t have time to get into any details. But it was good.

The location for EWTN is on the roof of the building across from both the Holy Office building, where I used to work, and the colonnade of St. Peter’s Square, at the entrance to my school the Augustinianum. Let’s just say that when I heard where they were, I didn’t need directions.

Some quick shots.

There are locations for different networks all over the place on the tops of the higher buildings.

This gives a sense of the proximity to the Basilica.

Father, what building is this? I stayed at the convent of Maria Bambina or something similar to that that had a rooftop terrace, is this were EWTN is setup??

  2. Fr AJ says:

Great commentary Fr. Z! Too short as you say but very good. You really should have your own show on EWTN or be a regular guest giving analysis on the new nightly news program coming in June!

  3. Right above Euroclero. Nice view.

Fr. Z, any way to publish the entire URL to the EWTN video? 1) EWTN is a great network, but its webpage isn’t the easiest to navigate, and 2) often links on your page take me to the homepage of a given site, but not to the specific article, video, etc. Thank you so much for your all of your efforts to bring us closer to Christ!

Really enjoying listening to you on EWTN right now, Father! :)

The portion with Father begins around 12:30.

EWTN now has its own Youtube channel, and you can view their Conclave coverage if you’ve missed anything here: http://www.youtube.com/EWTN

I watched it on Youtube. You should get your own show on EWTN!

    Father Z,

You have a beautiful speaking voice! It’s an “actor’s” voice – rich baritone, well-modulated, great breath control. There’s more! – paced inflections, pregnant pauses, an internal rhythm and stress on key words. Wow! You definitely would be good on t.v. or the radio or on podcasts. Have you thought of adding to your blog some video discussions by you of certain topics as Fr. Barron does? God’s given you a wonderful gift in your voice and you would make a great verbal apologist for the faith. Please consider adding the use of your voice to your ministry.

I enjoyed that whole panel, especially you. Hope to see more of you on EWTN. That crew would be great for the chimney watch. Eager to read Mr. Hitchcock’s book.

  12. Catholictothecore says:

Thank you, Jon, for letting us know when Fr. Z comes on.

  13. frjim4321 says:

Not a fan of that network but happy that you are having a safe and exciting trip.

  14. NBW says:

    Thanks for the link, Jon.

  15. Mariana says:

This is OT, but the post about the Swiss Guard Swiss Army knives has disappeared, and Christoph or perhaps Christopher (my profound apologies for not remembering the name correctly!) wanted to know where I saw the knives we were discussing. So:

    CHRISTOPH(ER), it was here
    http://engl.schweizergarde.eu/
    under ‘Poket knife’ (sic).

insightful, precise, and slavishly accurate assessment given by you today on EWTN

    ciao for now

Jon, Thank you so much for the links. I would have missed out!

  18. benedetta says:

Excellent Father Z! Have been watching and it is clear that EWTN’s coverage is far superior to anything the secular outlets are offering which is either so watered down as to be useless or more often riddled with inaccuracies, gross errors and just plain secular misunderstood bias.

gr8 segment Fr Z. Just caught it! Yes,he’d be a gr8 addition to EWTN.Huge fan of the network(and Fr Z). i can’t imagine anyone not seeing the worth of EWTN to the Catholic faith.I’m a shut in(have Ménétrier disease)and EWTN is such a blessing to folks like me. It’s a blessing to ALL Catholics. Anyway, kudos Fr. Z. You’re right. Eventually the 2 liturgies may evolve into a 3rd very reverent liturgy. The First change was so abrupt. Unprepared for. A lot of older folks went into shock. We all know about the abuses. His Holiness Benedict the XVI was on the right track. I can picture your commentary on EWTN. Fr Z’s Blog. Love the idea.

Hi Padre! Bentornato a Roma! I hope to get to see you while we are both here. I am here until April 11 when I return to NYC. If your schedule permits, and this goes for any/all readers who can get to Rome, come join us every evening at 8pm to pray the rosary that the Holy Spirit guide the Cardinal Electors. We intend to be there every night until the “Fumata Bianca”. If it happens tomorrow and we “HABE[bi]MUS PAPAM” on the very first day, then I guess we will meet to pray the rosary to thank God for guiding the Cardinal Electors for having re-elected Pope Benedict!!!!! ;) ;) ;) (I wish!!!) We meet at 8pm (Central European Time which is 3pm E.S.T.) in Piazza San Pietro in front of the obelisk. When it rains we meet under the left-side colonnade. Almost everything is in Latin: Veni Creator Spiritus, Credo, 1x Pater, 3x Ave Maria, 1x Glory Be, Sorrowful Mysteries (Fatima Prayers in Italian), we sing the Salve Regina (of course!), Litaniae Lauretanae, St. Joseph Prayer (in Italian), Prayer to St. Michael, then we sing the Ave, Regina Caelorum……it’s pretty great and I invite (one does not need an invitation!) one and all to come join us !!!!!! Or, just join in wherever you are on the planet at that time! :-) :-) :-) In Christo, John

Loved hearing you, Fr. Z. I was at work, listening with my ear buds, on my Kindle Fire with the iHeart app. I felt like a friend was there in Rome talking to us. It’s Fr. Z, I thought, one of our own! Great job!

“Your earth’s yellow sun does not give me psychic powers.”

Oh praise the Lord for nerdy priests!

  23. Giuseppe says:

Bravo, Padre Z! Remind me, there’s a famous church in Rome which altar both faces east and is towards the people (ad orientem ET versus populum). Which church is that? I once saw a picture, and I loved it.

  24. Giuseppe says:

Nevermind — I forgot St. Peter’s Basilica was ad orientem et versus populum. But the church I was thinking about was Santa Cecilia in Trastevere.

Thanks for the link, great commentary by Fr. Z! I also liked what I saw of HE Cardinal Pell.

  26. Supertradmum says:

Several Catholic websites have been down this morning in Europe. EWTN does not have good coverage here. While other secular networks have news alive, EWTN is showing 20 year old reruns I hope it improves.
