My future job opportunity!

Now that John L. Allen, Jr. is going to leave the National Schismatic Reporter (aka Fishwrap), there is going to be a big hole to fill there. Nature… vacuum… get it?

Wither Fishwrap?

Without JAL to keep them on the edge of respectability, whither?

Quo?

I suspect they will go even farther into the deep end, get even shriller.  And with the closing of their comboxes … well… who knows what’s going on around the water cooler these days?

I sense angst.

They need someone to haul them back from the edge, don’t you think?

I am starting to think that may I should send them my CV.

Of course, my CV should include some of my very best posts. Especially those having to do with the NSR itself.

Perhaps you readers could help assemble a list of links so as to help my application process along.

Good luck, Father. I hear Michael Voris has an inside, fast-track for this opening.

  2. Lisa Graas says:

My name is Lisa Graas and I endorse this post. Not only that, I give it my coveted “LOL” award. You’re welcome.

  3. iPadre says:

Fr. Z for editor in chief! I think things would be a little bit different around there.

  4. disco says:

With all the subscribers they’ve been losing I seriously doubt they could afford you, Father.

  5. teomatteo says:

    Godspeed John Gl…Allen.

  6. Supertradmum says:

I suggest you ask the Nuns on the Bus for references as to your excellent journalistic style.

  7. Fr. Bryan says:

Love the fedora you’re wearing in the photo in front of Fishwrap HQ. Where did you get that? Reminds me of the priest in the Exorcist…You going to perform one there?

  8. Geoffrey says:

Whatever happened to that lady from the NSR who was out to get you, Fr Z? Your posts about her fruitless witch hunt just came to mind…

  9. george says:

    @Fr. Bryan:
If he did perform an exorcism there, would that mean even *more* positions would be vacant?

  10. cpttom says:

You look too respectable to be on the NSR staff…The hat brings back good memories…growing up as a kid in the NY Archdiocese that would have been the typical “priest hat” worn by the parish priest.

  11. ray from mn says:

Tell them that I’ll subscribe if they hire you, FrZ! And all they would have to send me would be your columns/articles. Xeroxes would do, so they could save a lot of money.

    MinnRay

P.S. A reminder to all. The Boston Globe is owned by the NYT and they are talking about setting up their own national Catholic newspaper, maybe to go after the Register now owned by EWTN. Of course there are other rumors that say the NYT wants to sell the Globe, too.

    So pay attention, everyone!

  12. chinjq says:

I think the opening should go to Pope Michael for 5 reasons.

    1) He is not too far from headquarters in Missouri since he lives in Kansas.
    2) He says he has brought back over 1,000 Catholics books into print and has his own books as well.
    3) He is both a Rad Trad and a Looney: hence he will provide much entertainment for both Self-Absorbed Neo-Pelagians and the Nuns on the Bus.
    4) He has a healthy disregard for the Church Magisterium, just like NCR.
    5) If he doesn’t get a job soon, he’ll never get the funding to start his monastery and buy the church he wants.

  13. gracie says:

    Go for it, Father!

  14. Gregory DiPippo says:

Allen is moving from the Titanic to the Andrea Doria.

  15. OrthodoxChick says:

If the Globe isn’t able to sell a Catholic paper in Southie, they’ll be without hope of selling it anywhere – and they know it.

  16. theophilus says:

Fr Z, I really really really think you should send them a C.V. … in Latin of course.

  17. Tantum Ergo says:

    Fr. Z,
If you got that job, it would bring to mind Revelation 2:13

I know where thou dwellest, where Satan has his throne; and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith.

  18. incredulous says:

Yeah, and once you go, maybe Nancy Pelosi can take over your pastoral duties. ;)

  19. Eliane says:

Here is one explanation for why NCR shut the combox: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3108927/posts

I wondered if some litigation were afoot, but maybe the above is the real reason.

  20. Father Z, the NCR surely knows that if they hired you, they could count on generous donations from numerous members of your far-flung WDTPRS flock to help boost the salary they could pay you. And that your articles and columns in the NCR would jack up their failing subscriptions and could thereby save them from the financial fate they otherwise so richly deserve. So obviously you’re a sure thing for the job.

  21. Henry: How right you are. If only the Fishwrap’s editors were as wise as you.

  22. Sonshine135 says:

Me thinks that the Father becoming the chief over at the Fishwrap is tantamount to Glenn Beck purchasing Current TV. It is a nice thought, but it isn’t going to happen.

  23. SKAY says:

“Father Z, the NCR surely knows that if they hired you, they could count on generous donations from numerous members of your far-flung WDTPRS flock to help boost the salary they could pay you. And that your articles and columns in the NCR would jack up their failing subscriptions”
    Absolutely!

The left never understands why their ideas aren’t appreciated by the great unwashed in the rest of the country.

  24. LadyMarchmain says:

How much ammo can you fit under your terrorist hat, Fr?

Seriously, perhaps if you offer to provide Self-Absorbed Promethean Neo-Pelagian mugs for the entire staff? And pencils, too?

  25. Tantum Ergo says:

Since he NCR is known for being soooo inclusive, maybe you could be their token orthodox Catholic now that John Allen is gone. (Fat chance… I’ll bet that they’re doing the Fishwrap Polka right now… with the accompaniment of the electric accordion they use at Mass.)

  26. Massachusetts Catholic says:

Hey, people. The Boston Globe is owned by John W. Henry, the man who owns the Red Sox. He bought it last October. Not that the paper’s philosophy has noticeably changed, but it’s not owned by the New York Times anymore.
