My friend Fr. Richard Heilman has an initiative which you should all know about.
It starts one month from TODAY so this is time sensitive.
It is called Ninevah 90.
Si vis pacem, para bellum.

“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Another Nineveh-related fast that time of year is the three-day Nineveh Fast marked by Syriac, Coptic, and other Eastern Christians just before the start of Great Lent. This year the dates are February 6-8.
Fr. Heilman’s initiative is quite impressive. I agree a call to arms is desperately needed. I do think though that this list of to do’s is a bit much. Knowing myself, if I would attempt all of this I would fail somewhere in the first few days and then beat myself up for the remaining time because I couldn’t do it. I will definitely join in doing what I can but in a modified form. May God bless our efforts!
Tammy
I agree with Tammy. If we take on too much then we get overwhelmed and many times just give up altogether.
Diary of Saint Faustina: “My daughter, you give Me most glory by patiently submitting to My will, and you win for yourself greater merit than that which any fast or mortification could ever gain for you. Know, My daughter, that if you submit your will to Mine, you draw upon yourself My special delight. This sacrifice is pleasing to Me and full of sweetness. I take great pleasure in it; there is power in it.”
Jesus to Saint Faustina: “My daughter, know that you give Me greater glory by a single act of obedience than by long prayers and mortifications.
Some woman posted this on our Latin Mass Facebook page awhile back and it never sat well with me. Something of this magnitude requires prudence and counsel from both one’s confessor/spiritual director and a doctor. Even something such as starting an exercise regime (let alone an “intense” exercise regime) requires some sort of medical clearance from a doctor, especially if someone isn’t already doing regular exercise. Women of childbearing age also need to be wary of putting any type of stress on their body for a prolonged period of time as it will cause all kinds of hormonal issues that can cause life threatening things that will send you to the emergency room. Not saying woman can’t fast, but women have different needs than men and are much more sensitive to bodily stresses and need to be weaned into things.
Fr. Heilman suggests a month period of easing in, so to speak, to this before the official start date. So if you’re worried that you’ll forget things or not be able to do it all at once, there’s a month where you can start to add these things in gradually. It’s not like he’s saying all of this–right now!
He also adds that the fasting is only if “medically allowed”. Intensity of exercise depends on the individual person, anyway. For someone who doesn’t exercise at all, a walk around the block could be intense. For someone who runs marathons, maybe it means joining a Cross Fit box. There’s no indication that it has to be a specific *type* of intense exercise–just that it’s intense for *you.*
Also, quite of bit of this 90 day period is during Lent, when we’re supposed to be giving things up anyway. It’s certainly an excellent Lenten program.
I had the inspiration this summer to do everything that I had ever done for Lent which includes most of this list. It is intense , but I think the times call for it. Seems inspired by the Holy Spirit. Will try again and think that being in communion with others will help strengthen resolve.
Thank you for these word from St. Faustina’s diary. Very inspiring!
It’s certainly an excellent Lenten program.
The most excellent Lenten program is one that is run past one’s spiritual director/confessor and approved by him. The Church in Her years has always put the virtue of obedience above that of prayer and mortification. I’m not saying don’t do this Ninevah 90 as a blanket statement; I’m saying run it past your spiritual director/confessor first for approval. Even if something like this can be done physically, it doesn’t mean it should be. There’s the high risk of spiritual pride getting in which will do more harm in the long run.
