Formation of a new “Latin Mass Society of Central NJ”

For a while now, I’ve been working with the Tridentine Mass Society of the Diocese of Madison.

Since I’ve been mentioning it on the blog, I’ve received notes from all over that people are forming their own societies where they are.  I like to think that, perhaps, our TMSM has given some inspiration to others.

Today I received this from a reader, who is also a subscribed donor here:

I would like to inform you of some great news from the Diocese of Metuchen, NJ.

The newly formed Latin Mass Society of Central NJ will be celebrating a Solemn High Mass on 15 June, 7 pm at Our Lady of Peace, Edison. We are hoping this will be the beginning of many more celebrations of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Diocese of Metuchen.

All of the clergy involved are local Diocesan clergy, and the music is under direction of Mr. Anthony Nardino, the music director of St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Brunswick, and the music director of the Rutgers University Catholic Student Association. Some members of the schola are alumni of the Catholic Student Association (like myself) so we are hoping that more students and young adults are able to come.

We are currently spreading the word to as many people as we can, but would you be able to spread the news to your readers, some of whom may be in New Jersey and in close proximity to this Mass?

Thank you for all that you do as a priest and all that you do with your blog. I would not have discovered the beauty of Catholic tradition if it wasn’t for stumbling across your blog 3 years ago when I was in college.

Linked here is the Facebook event: HERE

I am delighted to hear about the formation of the Latin Mass Society of Central NJ.

Kudos!

Awesome news for us here in Central New Jersey! Wonderful parish very close to me. And please remember in your prayers two great Priests of this Diocese, Fathers Selvester and Gorman, who for many years have celebrated the Traditional Latin Mass at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Raritan, NJ.

  5. On my calendar, travel permitting. Nice to see Metuchen Diocese stretching it a bit after only really allowing it in Raritan since Ecclesia Dei days of 1989…Guess the new bishop is a bit more amenable to letting the senior rite be celebrated. Good news all around.

Dear Father Z, I am the one who created the event page linked in your post. God bless the enthusiastic young person who emailed you about the upcoming Mass, but there are a few inaccuracies in the email sent to you, as noted by one of the commenters here.

***The LMSociety is **not** responsible for the Mass coming to be, it’s the other way around.

Dear Father David Skoblow is to be thanked for his generous response to three people asking him for a Latin Mass at OLP after his “A Walk Through the Mass” presentation earlier this year (Please see Update #1 posted on the LMS of Central NJ Facebook page).

I am hoping that a LMS will form from everyone’s efforts to support Father Skoblow in offering this Solemn High Mass.

Thanks are also due to the pastor of OLP and to the Vicar of the county, who likewise are paving the way for the faithful to have a High Mass at this lovely old church. If you search Facebook for Our Lady of Peace – Fords, you will see it has beautiful stained glass, a proper altar (although the way it is situated, a versus populum Mass can be offered as well) and lovely tabernacle (with an image of the Annunciation and the words Et Verbo Caro Factum Est) and altar rail, despite being built in the 1950s.

Thank you Fr. Z, for posting this Mass and thank you to all who posted enthusiastically here. There is a call for anyone who wishes to join the Choir on the linked FB event page.

Please do keep Fr. Skoblow, and Fr. Guy Selvester and Fr. Robert Gorman in your prayers, as well as all priests of the Diocese of Metuchen and our Bishop James Checchio.

Please also pray that the Latin Mass will be offered in more times and places for the sake of the salvation of souls in the Diocese. Many people miss the Latin Mass, and still more do not yet know how much they miss it.

Thank you again for your help and prayers.
