2 Feb – MADISON – Candlemas – Pontifical Mass at the Throne

Put this in your calendars.

Candlemas is coming up on 2 February.

His Excellency Most Rev. Robert C. Morlino will be the celebrant for this Pontifical Mass at the Throne.

The rites include the blessing of candles.

The music will be provided by a visiting choir, the Schola Cantorum from Eau Claire. They will sing, among other pieces, the Missa Papae Marcelli by Palestrina.

A splendid new pipe organ was recently installed.  I am going to ask the organist to blow the roof off the place.

The Mass will begin at 6 PM at the chapel of Holy Name Heights (formerly the Bishop O’Connor Center).

Also please note that a fundraiser will begin immediately after the mass (for a new roof!)

Feast of the Presentation – one of the most blessed memories of my life. I was in Rome on pilgrimage with my parish choir. We auditioned via recording much earlier and were invited to participate in the Papal Mass as the secondary choir for all the religious in Rome at St. Peter’s Basilica. Sister Cecelia (how appropriate!) directed the secondary choir. I sat next to my good friend who was our choir’s director. Of course, Pope St. John Paul II was there. We were about 100′ from him. My mother was there too. And the Basilica was packed. All very memorable.

Congratulations on the Aeolian-Skinner organ! I read the article, but couldn’t find a disposition. Would it be possible for you to post the entire disposition?
You see, organists aren’t interested in how many pipes there is in an organ, no, we want to know how many stops/ranks it contains on how many manuals – and the pedal.
