Prayer Request

Friends, it’s Holy Thursday and I’ve come down with a nasty cold.

Prayers, please.  This isn’t good timing for problems with speaking, singing and … breathing.

Prayers for you Father! Try to take more vitamin D and C and Elderberry. I just got over something similar and my Dr. told me to take all of those things I mentioned. Get well soon!

  2. maternalView says:

    I prayed for you, Father.

  3. Liz says:

Oh no! We are praying for you, Father Z.

  4. LA says:

Don’t worry – whatever happens is God’s will in one way or another.

  5. jaykay says:

Assuredly, Father. For you, and all Priests.

  6. benedetta says:

    Praying for you Father.

  7. Kathleen10 says:

Asking God to heal you quickly. How inconvenient. What about those meds that supposedly shorten a cold? I’ve never tried them but somebody must.

  8. yatzer says:

Certainly, prayers for you, for all that you need.

  9. Mariana2 says:

    Of course.

  10. Charliebird says:

As you know, it could be demonic, esp. with this timing. Be sure you say a binding prayer.

  11. Marion Ancilla Mariae II says:

    Sorry to hear it, Father.
My husband so hates it when he gets a cold. We’ve developed the following protocol over many years. Don’t mean to recommend all at once: To the extent time allows, please try one, two, three, and see what helps you. Many of these will be reminders of what your Mom applied when you were a youngster.

Non-medications – and first in importance:
    1. Eight 8 oz. glasses of plain, clear water each day (over and above coffee, tea, juice, etc.) This helps to flush out the germs.
    2. As much rest – especially sleep – as possible. This is how the body heals itself. Even brief catnaps throughout the day in an easy chair can help.
    3. Over-the-counter saline nasal rinses. (Just salt and *medical-grade purified* water. This last is important: you don’t want to treat the nose with city water or well water.)
    4. Breathing steam.
    a. A vaporizer at home, running day and night.
    b. If necessary, a steam treatment. Big pot of water on the stove, bring to simmer (not boiling); TURN ALL HEAT OFF; then, while the pot is still steaming, a big towel over the head; lean in and breathe deeply. (Be sure the towel doesn’t drape itself over the pot handles – could drag the pot off balance as you return to standing, with disastrous consequences – be careful of upsetting or spilling very hot water.)
    5. Throat lozenges. We like Riccola Lemon honey. These help with a cough and sore throat, and dry and/or irritated mouth.

    FOOD AND DRINK:
    1. Chicken noodle soup, which contains protein, carbs, and lots of Vitamin C. Just what you need.
    2. A hot toddy in the evening may help, too.

MEDICATED REMEDIES – All are over the counter:
    1. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain reducing) – Aspirin; acetaminophen (Tylenol [TM] or good generic); or naproxen (Alleve [TM] or good generic) can help to reduce low-grade fever; sore throat, overall achy feelings, and inflammation of the affected areas.
    2. Nasal decongestants such as Nasacort [TM] or Afrin [TM] can help with that clogged feeling. These do a good job “drying up” the cold sufferer, sometimes too good a job, so keep those throat lozenges handy. (Important reminder: don’t exceed recommended three-day max use.)
    3. Soothing eyedrops (we like Systane [TM]) which can help with the watery, sore eyes.
    4. Mucinex (TM) can help with nose, throat and bronchial congestion.
    5. Vicks Vap-o-rub (TM) (while some find the scent of this product disagreeable, others find it soothing.)
    6. Lip moistener such as Chapstick [TM] or Blistex [TM]. Keeps lips from getting too dry. Beloved by life-guards, snow skiers, fishermen, and sportsmen and -women generally, since the Year dot. Also by people with colds.

Please read labels carefully and read and follow all package instructions included.

Two patron saints to invoke against illness:
    Saint Camillus de Lellis
    Saint Luke the Evangelist
    Also:
Saint Anne (who better to invoke than a saint who is also a grandmother?)

Will be keeping you in prayer, Father.

  12. SKAY says:

    Prayers said.

  13. coeyannie says:

Oil of Oregano from GNC. Put about three drops under your tongue and you will feel like your mouth is on fire. Three or four times a day should do it.
