It is worth noting that most of the references to the NO were outright abuses and irreverence of the most grave sort. Even then, it is still humiliating to me as a Catholic when I see such thing. Call me a wuss or bad Catholic, but I have been too ashamed to invite non-Catholics to Mass because there was simply no concept of reverence at the particular parish I used to attend.
One of my hopes when the TLM becomes more available in my area is I will make sure to invite other non-Catholics and especially conservative Protestants who will certainly be impressed and convinced at the beauty of the TLM.
As for right now, thank God for Holy Rosary parish in Portland Oregon. It has been a spiritual lifesaver.

I do not think the videos per se are impius but the parts that show liturgical NO abuses are not only that but also heretical, embarassing and most specially irrespectful of our lord’s presence.
I think the videos are a shocking but light way to show the diference between all the abuses in the NO that the catholic laity have had to endure in the past 30 years and what the extraordinary use can and will (now more widely) be in the future.
There is something about that square brown altar with the smoking censer on it and 2+1+2+1 female acolytes holding up smoking bowls to it, and the shadows and the reflexions and all that just GIVES ME THE WILLIES.

I had a bad experience today on Catholic Answers Ask the Bishop.
The good bishop, an otherwise excellent excellency, stated in response to a callers question about difficulties he nad fellow parishioners were having in requesting an extraordinary rite mass that According to SP
“Art. 5. § 1 In parishes, where there is a stable group of faithful who adhere to the earlier liturgical tradition, ”
“adhere” means were raised in the older tradition, thereby excluding any persons of younger age or others simply attracted to the older form itself. And that SP is primarily for reuniting separated groups of SSPX and other breakaways.
and,from teh Pope’s letter:
“he use of the old Missal presupposes a certain degree of liturgical formation and some knowledge of the Latin language; neither of these is found very often.”
Refers to the liturgical formation and Latin skill of the LAITY making the request rather than the priest celebrant. And thet the ability to request the extraordinary rite is confined to older Catholics attached to the rite and their canonical children raised in the rite either inside or outside the Church. How does this differ from the establishment of a separate rite? ANd how does it differ from the odious restrictions on growth placed on the Eastern Catholic churches, where they can only establish new parishes where there is an existing stable population of a certain ethnic group? Help me on this. Somebody please listen to the program and tell my I misheard his excellency!

That is big news, I honestly cant believe the Bishop said that. Tim, DONT BELIEVE IT, that is a attack on the MP plain and simple. I just lost respect for Bishop Vasa.
The MP “Cover Letter” EXPLICITLY states “in the meantime it has clearly been demonstrated that young persons too have discovered this liturgical form, felt its attraction and found in it a form of encounter with the Mystery of the Most Holy Eucharist, particularly suited to them”
That was a horrible attack, sickening, I lost all respect for that Bishop. The MP says ANY priest can say it, and through them the faithful can request it.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of otherwise good bishops out there who are liturgically liberal. Look at Mother Angelica’s, for example.

I am not surprised the bishop said these things. Apparently, this is now the official party line from the Bishops Committee on the Liturgy as proposed by Bishop Troutman. Many chanceries have received these very same “guidelines” from the good bishop of Erie.
While trying to remain positive, unless priests and laity avail themselves of their canonical rights, the Holy Father’s MP is “dead in the water” even before its maiden voyage.
What does surprise me is the boldness and arrogance of those who stand so publicly in open opposition to the Holy Father’s instructions.
After everything I’ve seen in the last 20+ years, the negative reaction to the MP doesn’t surprise me one bit, not one iota.
I expected it. I don’t expect it will willingly change either.
The USCCB etc is a problem in too many ways to count. So what else is new? Yawn.

If I might offer a few comments:
1. Most of Bp Vasa’s years as a priest were spent under JPII, and he simply hasn’t made the transition to BXVI. He seems to think that in the new MP the pope is just asking bishops again–he says that it is not an expansion or restriction of the previous policy. Any objective reading of the MP shows such an attitude is plainly wrong.
2. It is just another example of bishops hurrying to comfort liberals: “Don’t worry, this doesn’t change a thing.”
3. As I’ve said earlier, a lot will depend on Rome insisting on implementation of the MP via the Sec of State, Sostituto, Cong of Rites, Ecclesia Dei Commission, and the Apostolic nunzio of each nation.
4. Obviously, there are going to be various attempts to build a firewall around mass using the 1962 Missal–by limiting its use to private masses, SSPX chapels, and certain specified diocesan centers, etc.
Still,
It is disheartening when Saruman goes technicolor, or when Boromir tries to grab the ring. From Mahoney or Trautmann, it would all be water off the proverbial duck, but from Vasa, it is painful.
Okay…. we went down the rabbit hole.
