HOW: Very informal!

WHO: If some people come, great!

The Google Map does not seem to be working.

  3. Larry Brooks says:

    Cole,
google Kansas City Mo. Then look for latte land. North of KC proper follow 169. I think it is site B. Mulberry or something like that. I’m in Denver so I won’t make it. Enjoy

  4. Andy says:

I wish I could be there, Father!

  5. Jeremy says:

  7. adamsaj says:

I will try to stop by, but Mass is at 9:30 AM at the Oratory so it may not work out. Regardless, I hope your trip fares well!

I will try to make it, Father. I’m based in Lawrence, KU (about 45 minutes away), where I’m a professor and read your blog avidly.

Bloody hell, small world! KU does have an honorable place within Tradition because of the Pearson College program. We also had the TLM last semester at the St. Lawrence Catholic Center…

When I was studying in Rome, there were 3 other KU alums studying there: Revs David Rabe, Paul Coakley, and Jim Conley. The first is a priest in New Orleans, the second bishop in Salina, the third is back in Wichita after 10 years working in the Vatican at the Cong of Bishops.

KU is also of course joined at the hip with Fontgombault, the inspiration most likely having been the Rock Chalk Chant.

If you’re wondering, I studied under John Senior before Pearson College. As I tell people, I got the Industrial Strength John Senior.

  14. Are you going to saying a TLM prior to the coffee hour? I’ll volunteer to serve!

Better check the link to the map. It is somewhere in California.

Father Z – will you be giving any public talks in the London area when you visit Britain in February? Also, I don’t know what a blognic is (!) but will you be having one here? I do hope you enjoy your trip to Europe and are able to do some sightseeing.

  17. elizabeth: I will be speaking at Oxford. At this time I don’t have anything scheduled in London.

A blognic is a “blogger picnic”, just an informal gathering at a predetermined place and time of anyone interested in coming to meet other bloggers and participants and readers.

  18. elizabeth mckernan says:

Thank you for your reply. I should have guessed the meaning of ‘blognic’! Foreign languages have always interested me and the bloggers jargon is a new challenge. I have only recently realised what LOL stands for!

  19. Marcin says:

    Dear Father,

Do your excursions ever reach the DC area?

See above for a few words and a pic of Fr. Z’s visit to KC.

  21. ALL: The KC blognic took place and it was a real pleasure. I had advertised the blognic in at the top of the entry.

I was pleased and frankly a little surpised, in the sense of humbled, that so many people came. I had brought my laptop with me, and even a book, thinking that I would be sitting a waiting around for someone to show up.

The experience convinced me that, given enough time in a city I might visit, other blognics should be organized.

I am grateful also to my host here in KC who set up the time and place, even though the proprietor of the coffee shops fouled up our reservation of a side room we thought might be useful. It turns out, providentially, that we had too many people for that little room anyway.

The topics of conversation were varied and it was all very congenial.

Once again, many thanks. When I have chance I will post a couple photos I shot. I think others were snapping what they could get on their cellphones, as the comment immediately above indicates.

  22. Neal says:

    Dear Father,

Please consider a visit to Toronto.

    Pax,

  23. craig says:

Fr.Z et al, it was a pleasure to meet all of you, perhaps we should have a regular coffee meet in the KC area.

  24. Christopher says:

It was great meeting everyone this morning,I pray you have safe travels to the UK Father, and yes I do think us KC locals should get together more often.

  25. KK says:

In the “you never know whose lives you touch” department… Apparently there are two seminarians from Midwest Baptist Theological Seminary (located about a mile from the blognic) who frequent LatteLand each Saturday. I was told this morning that they were noticeably distracted last Saturday and seemed unable to focus on their studies – preferring to direct their attention to listening to the blognic. “Something about roman collars.”

I’m sure they found the final blessing particularly distracting :-)
