ALERT: 3rd Vatican Council announced

And now from the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, we have this about our lost sheep… er um… shepherd… um… whatever, H.E. Emmanuel Milingo:

Milingo launches the 3rd Vatican

Ex-communicated Catholic Archbishop, Emmanuel Milingo says the Movement for Married Priests is in the process of establishing the third Vatican Council to shape the future of the renewed Catholic Church.

Archbishop Milingo said the third Vatican Council will be launched in South Korea before the end of this month.  [Do I detect a little full Moonie influence here?]

He told ZNBC news shortly before he and his wife Maria Sung left for South Korea that proposals for the foundation have already been made.

Archbishop Milingo also said the movement is preparing for the Universal Peace Federation meeting.

He indicated that faith based groups will soon hold a symposium on Catholicism.

Archbishop Milingo boasted that his organisation will provide air tickets for delegates from the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) if they are willing to attend the ceremony.

The Archbishop, 78, leads 150,000 married priests across the world.    [150K…. yah… riiiight….]

He was ex-communicated for holding divergent views from the Catholic Church and marrying priests.  [Not to mention his own deal….]

As our good friend, the official WDTPRS parodist offered us some comic relief…

… to the tune of the famous song in The Sound of Music:

How do you solve a problem like Milingo
He sneaks around and can’t be found,
    Until he’s on TV…
He takes a Moonie for a wife,
    Embracing heresy;
    And underneath his mitre,
    Seems his lost his sanity.
I heard him once professing Docetism.

    He’s always breaking canons
    But his penitence is real
    He’s always late for everything
    Except for every meal
I hate to have to say it
    But I very firmly feel
Milingo’s even worse than Charlie Curran!

I’d like to say a word in his behalf
    (then say it, Sr. Margaretta)
    Milingo makes me… laugh.

How do you solve a problem like Milingo?
How do you make a bishop keep in line?
How do you find a word that means Milingo?
    A flibbertijibbet! A will-o’-the wisp! A clown!

If bishops are dogs, Emmanuel is a dingo Which even a German Shepherd couldn’t tame.
So how do you make him stay
And shut up for just one day?
How do you keep a crosier from his hand?

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Milingo?
How do you keep a Moonie’s feet on land?

When I’m with him I’m distressed
Things he blesses don’t seem blessed
And you never know what stunt he’s pulling next He’s defiant as M. Luther Wacky as Rosemary Reuther He’s a bishop! He’s a nutcase! He’s a wreck!

    He’s a Gnostic without Gnoss
Like a crosier sans a cross
He could make a Trappist hermit scream out loud He is funny, he wild Pray his wife is not with child!
    He’s a headache, he’s amusing
    He’s a looooooon

How do you solve a problem like Milingo?
How do you make a bishop keep in line?
How do you find a word that means Milingo?
    A flibbertijibbet! A will-o’-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you’d like to tell him:
Celibacy’s not just a papal whim
So how do you make him stay
And shut up for just one day?
How do you keep a crosier from his hand?

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Milingo?
How do you keep a Moonie’s feet on land?

Thank you, Father Z! I needed a chuckle!

  2. Ben says:

How can it be Vatican III without the Vatican? Maybe that is too obvious of a question. :) Cheers!

  3. Gerard says:

Milingo was at one time a well-respected archbishop. He was also one of the only bishops known to be active in Exorcism.

I’ve often suspected that his current state is the result of a failed Exorcism or some kind of possession or oppression.

That is probably why the Vatican did not acknowledge the validity of the episcopal consecrations he performed.

Very interesting, and very possible according to my research. However I doubt that was the Vatican’s reason, as no bishop may consecrate another bishop without the permission of the Holy See (just like the SSPX).

  5. Mark M says:

And there was me thinking it was the Vicariate Apostolic of Mars!!

  6. It isnt a Vatican Council if the Council isnt in the Vatican. Perhaps he is hoping to rent St. Peter’s for the event…

  7. Latter-day Guy says:

    Brilliant song! Sad situation.

  8. Prof. Basto says:

That title almost gave me a heart attack.

  9. Cliff says:

Wow. So how can the third Vatican council be held in S. Korea without it being the Council of S. Korea? The fact that it makes that flub reference to V II should say enough

  10. Padre Steve says:

This is very funny… but, sad at the same time. To think an Archbishop of the Church could become so delusional. It really is sad, but what can you do! Keep the laughs coming as we might continue to pray for this lost soul! God bless!

  11. LCB says:

Why were his consecrations considered invalid?

  12. John Enright says:

Is he a new Antipope in the making?

  13. Mary says:

For a second when I only read the title, I thought “WHAT is going on!” then I read the rest of the post and like others have said before me, how is its a Vatican Council if the Vatican isn’t involved in any sense, the physical use of the Vatican buildings or those who are Vatican officials or belong to the Vatican.

  14. Trad Tom says:

So sad…the Milingo lunacy is so very sad. What may be even more sad, though, is those who would/will actually attend some council (or whatever) he convenes. Let’s see: Womynpriests, other illicitly married priests, maybe even some sedevacantists!

  15. Theodorus says:

“Milingo was at one time a well-respected archbishop. He was also one of the only bishops known to be active in Exorcism. I’ve often suspected that his current state is the result of a failed Exorcism or some kind of possession or oppression.”—Gerard

Totally agreed. It is just too dramatic and hard to comprehend how a mighty warrior of God becomes an apostate. I seriously think Milingo himself needs an exorcism.

  16. georgeaquinas says:

50,000 Priests! See, if the Vatican would just get rid of the antiquated pre-modern reactionary edict about marriage, the Church would flourish. This is the proof.

  17. georgeaquinas says:

I’m sorry, 150,000 priests. Even more proof!

  18. Prof. Basto says:

    Would flourish with what?

Priests who cannot commit to her in the same way celibatary priests can? The Council of Trent defined the superiority of the celibate state over the married state and anathematized those who oppose that definition; and even the Eastern tradition recognizes the superiority of the celibate state, when its discipline requires celibate as as condition for appointment to the Episcopacy.

Numbers are not everything, even if those numbers are true. Quality and the true integral commitment of the Priest are more important values.

Belonging to the Sacred Prieshood is not a job , it is a life commitment, a donation of the whole self, a ministry of integral dedication to Christ and to his Church.

May God ever continue to bless the Reverend Catholic Clergy!

  20. Good heavens! You had me for a split second – at least until I got to “Milingo”.

Pray for him and all being scandalized by his actions.

  21. georgeaquinas says:

Tongue was firmly planted in cheek.

  22. SMJ says:

Father, do you want to kill your readers with a title like that??
I almost had a heart attack!

  23. patrick f says:

This has to be a joke, nothing could be this funny and sad at the same time.

It really is amusing how those who are thrown out or leave automatically show us all how it is to be done,,,

Second does he not realize that for a council to have the name of a city, it must actually BE in that city, and for that much the person who is holding the council should be allowed in the city by he who would magistrate such a council…oh yes the pope. So slight problem there. Unless thi s guy became another pope.. we dont have enough antipopes running around, whats one more

  24. Bruce says:

Is this man Milingo still considered to be an archbishop of Holy Mother Church, even though an excommunicate (and possibly an apostate)? Or has he been laicized, in which case it would be much more correct to refer to him as the FORMER Archbiship Milingo? What is his exact clerical and ecclesiastical status?

I have the same questions about Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann (see http://whispersintheloggia.blogspot.com/2008/06/father-president-un-edition.html), who is described as a Maryknoll priest, but seems to have lived his life as a politician and diplomat, which is incompatible with priestly ministry, and certainly he is not dressed as a priest in the article’s photo. Is he really still a priest, or has he been laicized?

It would really help prevent confusion and possible scandal to the faithful if these articles contained a sufficiently detailed explanation of the career history and current clerical status of such Catholic (or formerly Catholic) “newsmakers”.

  25. In planning “Vatican III” Milingo is a stellar example of what Pope Benedict warns against – the hermeneutic of discontinuity.

Milingo has raised the 2nd Vatican Council above every other Ecumenical Council. He also interprets it in discontinuity with Tradition and every other Council. Therefore, in his mind, “Vatican Council” means break with the past – a break so big he can accept Moon’s false claims. And so he wants not an “Ecumenical Council” but a “Vatican Council.”

The problem is that there are many nostalgic hippies in the Church who look to a vague spirit of Vatican II as some kind of trump card to everything the Church has ever taught.

I can’t wait for the day when all Catholics say “The Church says” and not “Vatican II says.” Our Faith is much richer than one council and goes back to Christ not to the 1960’s.

  26. Miguel says:

Does the Swiss Guard have a Delta Force?

  27. RC says:

All the ordinands in Milingo’s ceremony claimed to have been ordained bishops previously, so Milingo’s act could only have had an effect if those men had been wrong about their prior consecrations.

The sects involved also raise some questions. The new “bishops” belong to mini-denominations that ordain women; if those men don’t agree with the Catholic Church in a fundamental point about the doctrine of the sacrament of Orders, can they exercise the sacrament validly? Is there any way such an error could be an impediment to the reception of the sacrament Milingo attempted to confer? Does Milingo also hold their error about the sacrament of orders?

Anyway, maybe Moon will declare some place in South Korea as the “third Rome” and hold Milingo’s “Vatican III” there.

  28. Dan Hunter says:

Was there a second Vatican Council?

  29. AnnaTrad says:

Maybe that is what we need, a Swiss Guard Delta Force. They are coming to your town soon to clean up those pediatric hippy dingbat puppet productions. Anyone willing to e-mail the Pope….

  30. Dooley says:

Moon has outspent anyone manipulating the USA’s political structure over the past 25 years. He brags about using the Washington Times to “influence America.” The WT is one of the most quoted papers in the world and in the 80s and 90s the backbone of the conservative print media. Moon funded many early key figures on the right like LaHaye, Falwell and Richard Viguerie just to name a few. A Moon tool, The American Freedom Coalition, was one the two most powerful grassroots conservative groups in the country in the late 80s and early 90s. The president of the AFC said it was designed to gather the Christian “right” for poltical power – Moon would call it “restoring Christianity” as part of his Messiah chores. In 1989 US News and World stated that “virtually every” conservative organization in DC had ties to Moon.

Moon played a major role in molding the conservative movement we see today. He is, for those who look and study, the Father of today’s Conservative movement.

He had his end game “theocratic” UN meet in DC recently. The group took a short trip to Texas so George H. W. Bush and Brent Scowcroft could endorse Moon’s effort to subdue the planet. Guess who was there helping promote the UPF?

A RC Bishop Estrada and it wasn’t Milingo.

Cardinal Hummes met with UPF reps also.

And there are still people who haven’t a clue how Moon operates and they laugh at him.

    Read this

and then go here and watch “America Summit 2008”

    http://www.upf.org/

Moon laughs at people who mock him because he knows they are too stupid to ever understand what he is doing and HAS done.

  31. Dooley987 says:

“Anyway, maybe Moon will declare some place in South Korea as the “third Rome” and hold Milingo’s “Vatican III” there.”

He already has – as he predicted decades ago.

    http://www.uc-japan.org/tpphoto/TPPhoto.aspx?targetdate=2006/06/13&targetitem=0

Milingo was targeted, imo. They hunted him and he is only a very, very small part of the Moon puzzel.

    http://www.tparents.org/library/unification/talks/milingo/Milingo-070325.htm

At the end there was a time for the students to ask [Milnigo] questions. One student asked, “Tell us your motive to accept True Parents as the Messiah.” He answered, “Looking at True Parents’ life and [Moon’s] current achievements I realized that this person is the messiah sent by God.”

  32. Dooley says:

Didn’t mean to make the point about Cardinal Hummes sound like he met with the UPF at the recent event Bush endorsed (Bush has traveled three continents for Moon).

This link is on Cardinal Hummes. Just a courtesy call but still…

  33. Gary Keith Chesterton says:

This is very very sad. I have never met Milingo, but I know his sidekick George Stallings pretty well. I met him when was running for City Council here in D.C. An immensely charming man, speaks Italian perfectly, and always accompanied by at least one completely stunning woman, as well as a beefy bodyguard. He was already a schismatic of course, but when I read about his drift into the lunar orbit, I was flabbergasted. And now Milingo.

What the hell is going on?

Hey, I think I answered my own question!

  34. Scott W. says:

The Archbishop, 78, leads 150,000 married priests across the world.

    Just send in five box-tops!

And any organization or event with “peace” in its title and you know it’s going to be a raving farrago of nonsense.

  35. Brian C. says:

    Scott W. writes:

And any organization or event with “peace” in its title and you know it’s going to be a raving farrago of nonsense.

Isn’t that sad? And yet, it’s almost universally true, nowadays; it’s a travesty when the language of the Church has been so co-opted (read: “hijacked”) by “progressives” that I can’t help but flinch (and/or run the other direction) whenever the phrase “peace and justice” is uttered in anything even vaguely resembling a Catholic milieu. Rather than the true (and noble) definition, it usually means a “laundry list of talking points from the DNC [or pick your favourite leftist political organization and insert here]”.

    In Christ,
    Brian

MOON´S SECT BRAINWASHED BISHOP, EXORCIST SAYS
Father Amorth´s Theory About Former Zambian Prelate

    …………..

–Q: How can such a transformation happen?

–Father Amorth: Reconstructing the last years of his life, we realize that the Moonies have hunted him mercilessly. We have even identified the people who kidnapped him; they have brainwashed him. It is an Italian family in particular, which has disappeared with him in the United States.

For a long time now, many tried to attract him, premeditatedly and with great care. He has allowed himself to be caught.

–Q: It is difficult to think of an archbishop being subjected in this way.

–Father Amorth: They caught him at a time of discouragement and depression. … He was weakened by the attacks he received.

He didn´t realize that he was a prey for which they had been working for a long time and, little by little, they succeeded and he gave in. Now, from my point of view, Milingo will not be able to recover, in part, because it´s no longer possible to approach him.…..

    ———————————————-

And the only one who seemed to have power over his “demons” while in his presence was JPII:

When John Paul II asked him, “in the name of Jesus,” to come back to the church, that’s what he did, leaving his wife 10 weeks after their wedding. Even Maria Sung’s 16-day hunger strike couldn’t get Milingo back.

What a diabolical movement to attempt to seat themselves in the Vatican’s place.

  37. Quaesumus says:

Well, I’ll be attending. Lay people get to vote in this one too, right? Juuust kidding…

  38. Invicta Veritas says:

I was at a conference last week, at which one of those whom poor Milingo consecrated to the episcopate was present, one “Archbishop Joseph Brennan.” This man told his story at a table at which I happened to be seated. He was a Catholic seminarian in the 1960s, who dropped out to get married. Later on he was ordained in one of the numerous bodies calling itself the “North American Old Roman Catholic Church” by its archbishop, Richard Marchenna. A year or so ago he was consecrated a bishop by Milingo, along with several other men, including “Archbishop” Stallings, who for some reason was being consecrated a second time. One of the people at the table observed that at least Milingo doesn’t ordain women, to which Brennan replied, we’re trying hard to keep him from doing it, and he went on to say that Milingo is just as keen on promoting the ordination of women in the Catholic Church as he is on a married priesthood. In a subsequent conversation, it emerged that Brennan himself is gung-ho on WO, but that he simply wants to keep the Church of Milingo focused on the marriage issue.

Clearly, Milingo is far more of a deluded soul than is generally known.
