At least lunch went well today… very well!

The day was really awful, but there was a great moment… lunch.

I was out with a friend at a fairly new place I really like on the Borgo Pio… Ristochicco.

    Mirabile visu!

Fr. Moore is looking quite well, as are you and the shellfish!

  2. Tecumseh says:

FrZ…how did you manage to get that Femail Genie to rise out of your friends dinner like that..??. Maybe you didn’t see it from where your sitting, but it sure looks spooky from where I’m sitting. Anyway Bon appetit, we are having salmon and spuds, Mrs Tecumseh has seen the Genie and will no doubt be keeping an eagle eye for spooks around here.

  3. Vincenzo says:

    Looks so delicious!

  4. Jon says:

    Father,

You’re a lucky guy. I always wanted to have lunch with Chesterton.

  5. Therese says:

With a dish like that set before me, it wouldn’t matter what kind of day it was! ;-)

  6. Sid Cundiff says:

So glad that you’ve found an eating establishment near the Vatican that’s worthwhile! I’ve never had such luck.

Because I like to approach Piazza San Pietro the way everyone did before the Via della Conciliazione was built — that is, through narrow streets in order to get the surprise of the vast piazza, I usually walk down the Borgio Pio (or the Borgio S. Spirito to see the dome come into view). I’ll look for Ristochicco when I’m back in Rome. Thanks.

  7. Dan says:

    Yummy!
    Lil lobsters.

  8. Julie says:

You’re not allowed to complain in Rome.

    ;)

  9. jarhead462 says:

    Langoustines, are they not?
    (mmmmmmmmmmmm)

  10. Geoffrey says:

Ah! How I long to go to Rome!

  11. Clayton says:

FYI there’s a big bug in your food. I’d send it back. ;)

  12. Father,
I by absolutely no means intend to question your commitment to Tradition, but, if I may: Why do you always wear a tabby?

  13. Rose in NE says:

Hmmm, makes the tuna fish sandwich I had for lunch seem a little lackluster. ;)

  14. Dr. Mel-South Carolina says:

Appreciate your taking the lead on the restoration of abstinence TMF (Traditional Meatless Fridays)!

  15. Mitch says:

Hey Father, that is litterally just around the coner from the place I stayed at when I was in Rome this summer, although I never did venture into that particular establishment.

  16. Patrick says:

Do I detect a bottle of San Pelligrino on the table? Excellent water, drink it every chance I get.

  17. Kradcliffe says:

I had a very embarrassing experience in Rome where I ordered a dish that the menu said would be “prawns with linguine” and they arrived looking pretty much like that. I apologized profusely and made it clear that I would pay for the dish, but I couldn’t have it on my table (it actually upset me to have it “looking” at me). But, I know I really offended the waiter. I can’t help it if gigantic aquatic bugs freak me out! I cannot eat anything with eyeballs. *shudder*

  18. magdalen says:

Don’t tell me you ate ALL that! And vino too; did you sleep thrugh
    the afternoon talks-haha.

Wish I had a plateful of that.

  19. Puxa says:

    “Langoustines, are they not?”

    I agree.

“Appreciate your taking the lead on the restoration of abstinence TMF (Traditional Meatless Fridays)!”

Well, he certainly is eating his one full meal per Friday.

  20. James says:

Tsk, tsk, Father. It’s Ember Friday—fasting and abstinence. Hope you asked for a doggie bag!

  21. shane says:

NICE BEER! Thats what im talkin!

  22. Derik Castillo says:

It is good to see you smiling after your earlier GRRR post.

  23. Jim says:

    Watch that cholesterol, Father!

  24. Boko says:

Do you know Friar Tuck (or ITV)? Are YOU Friar Tuck?

  25. Boko says:

Of, of, of. Of Inside the Vatican.

  26. I can’t believe you had the audacity to……eat.

I’m tentatively enjoying a good bottle of LaRossa – Birra Moretti (if that explains it) – following a dinner of grilled shrimp, rice and mixed vegetables.

It’s Friday, it was a long week at work, what more can I say.

  27. There is an adage that is fairly popular in Italy: If you want to find the great places to dine, check out where the clergy are eating. Buon appetito, Padre!

  28. Father: Toasting back at ya with a tall chilled stein of Leinie’s Honey Weiss in hand! *clink*

You look like you are having a great time. Prayers for safe travel here.

  29. Peg says:

This is all very wonderful and I’m twice jealous , one, that you are eating that delicious looking meal and two, that you are doing it in Rome! But, but, but what about St. Januarius…did his blood liquefy today or should we get ready for trouble?

  30. Brendan Downunder says:

Love these shots. So Catholic! So Roman! Benedicamus Domino.

  31. Hicardo says:

Sorry, Father. That wine may be valid matter, but I can’t say the same for the pasta. Your walking on shaky ground using that glass goblet for a chalice and please hold it with both hands during the elevation.

  32. Matt Q says:

Cool. What a totally fun lunch! It would be nice if the weather is turning already and not still hot.

    Jarhead wrote: “Langoustines.”

We call them Langostinos ( perhaps that’s the Hispanic influence out here ) and always thought they small but red with short tails.

Anyway, what a great lunch, Father.

  33. Jenny Z says:

    Father… wow. That looks amazing.

    I’m suddenly VERY hungry.

  34. wsxyz says:

Tsk, tsk, Father. It’s Ember Friday—-fasting and abstinence

According to my calendar, Ember Friday is next week?

  35. Michael says:

    Panem et circenes

  36. Yes… I did eat it all.

  37. Papaefidelis says:

Father, O Father! Is that a tab-collar shirt–the old tongue-depressor? Egad! I shall pray that those terrible scoundrels who stole your Gamarelli and replaced it with the Almy blue-light special shall have their bowel wrapped around a large ceramic chalice!

  38. Papaefidelis: Yes. It was. Are you sure you want to make something out of that?

  39. Aquino says:

“Do you know Friar Tuck (or ITV)? Are YOU Friar Tuck?

    Comment by Boko”

No, Fr Z isn’t Friar Tuck.

  40. mcitl says:

“Papaefidelis: Yes. It was. Are you sure you want to make something out of that?”

    Oooooooooooooh…dem’s fightin’ words….

  41. Papaefidelis says:

    Fr. Z:
We love you anyway! From one classicist to another!

  42. RUBY ANN ROY says:

THERE’S NO BETTER THOUGHT THAN “THOU SHALL NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOUR’S FOOD”….I AM GUILTY OF IT IN THE FIRST DEGREE…..HOW I WISH I WAS THERE, THE FOOD, THE COMPANY AND THE AMBIENCE…WOW! IS THAT A SIN?????
