“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Archbishop Dalek will have to have a (cough) word with these ladies. [see http://holywhapping.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html#2254590108771819751 ]
And the word will *not* be “consecrate.”
“Ab illo benedicaris, in cujus honore cremaberis. Amen.”
‘House of Bishops’ — I take it these people are Anglicans, since I don’t often here Catholics use that phrase. Which leads to the questions: don’t Anglicans/Episcopelians already have women ‘bishops’ and other square circles
This is kind of surprising. They want to go straight up to the episcopacy? Maybe they haven’t boned up on their canon law and acknowledged the fact that they have to be priests first…that’s where the hiccup is.
I agree, the reference to “House of Bishops” means they must be Anglicans, not Catholics. Probably members of the Church of England. There have been preliminary steps taken to authorize women bishops in the CoE but I believe there are additional formalities before it becomes a reality. Still, seems a silly thing to protest for when it’s all but a done deal already.
Is that a robot I see on the poster on the far left?
I believe it truly is a Dalek.
Technically, Cory, that’s a Dalek.
Was the opposition between this post and the preceding one (with the great photo Cardinal Llovera) intentional?
Because it’s a brilliant case of that is what a bishop looks like and these are what bishops do not look like.
Thank goodness for B16!

“crate” is the ablative of “cratis” which means wickerwork. So, does the sign mean that they bring themselves together with wickerwork?
They should all be renamed Eve, as she too wasn’t satisfied with what God had in mind for her state in life.
Glad to know Thomas is back to posting more appropriate photos for his caption contests.
If they’re putting themselves with Dr. Who like science fiction/fantasy, then they’re probably in the right place.
I learn so much on this blog. I had never heard the term Dalek before. Thanks for the education!
Pitiful. They even forgot their little pumpkins for collecting the candy.

What’s the point here? Anglicans want women bishops?
They don’t even have male priests … they have a lot to learn.
It is interesting that they have roped in the Daleks to make their point.
For American readers’ information their catchphrase is “EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE@.
Daleks are a particularly ruthless form of alien who achieve all their evil
ends as a consequence of threats and brutal massacres.
Well if the Daleks are on their side, at least we know the Doctor will be along soon to defeat them, and banish them to the void ;)
Thanks Father, now I just blew coffee out of my nose!
What’s up with the Dalek? Addle-pated humans.
Semper Fi!
jarhead: I just blew coffee out of my nose!
You should not do that! It’ll get on the keyboard that way.
carl: the Doctor will be along soon to defeat them
Yah… but they have a nasty way of coming back.
Of course the Doctor will defeat them. He can boss around cardinals.
Their vestments look more Primark than Gammarelli. Just put the picture from this post alongside that of the cappa magna being worn with authority by a real bishop – words are superfluous.
What’s the difference between a Dalek and a woman bishop?
One’s an implausible bit of fiction dating back to the 1960s;
the other’s from a TV series…
ROFL!
I know the one on the far right in the blue dress. She was at Woodstock. She was topless and had peace signs spray painted across her breasts.
CON-SE-CRATE?
Every Dalek that I have encountered has uttered: “EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!”
…which would not be a bad thing for these cretins in the C of E!
Maybe I’m just dated, but the first thing I thought of when looking at the banner was “Rosie” from the Jetsons.
Maybe he meant to write “Con-SHE-crate”?

If the ‘lady bishops’ are in league with the Daleks and the liturgical Nazis are in cahoots with the Cybermen, then B16 has no choice but to banish all of them to the planet ICEL where time is perpetually and INEFFABLY frozen in the 1970’s
She-bishop Who? I was wondering why the Dalek connection, but then I realized that the Daleks think they are gods too.
I think its unfair that they are suggesting that Rowan Williams is Davros…
It’s been so long since I’ve watched Dr. Who, I honestly was trying to figure out why the one person had a drawing of a lighthouse on his placard!
What’s that thing in the upper left corner? Looks like the consilium’s proposed reconstruction of R2-D2.
I think it is important to point out that the Daleks have definitively been defeated.
In the second ever story of Doctor Who, entitled “The Daleks” they were
destroyed as a consequence of the actions of the Doctor. The fact they appear
to reappear, as Fr. Z states, is a consequence of the fact that he always
meets them in the past.
The Daleks were defeated owing to the fact that they cannot travel upstairs.
It is hardly likely they will get anyone else upstairs either.
As usual these people have hitched their horse to the wrong cart.
I just can’t stop laughing at this one. I might laugh my @#$ off! Oh this is so funny!
