  1. Timbot2000 says:

Somebody needs to make a Star Wars-themed poster with Bachman as Skywalker to Ron Paul’s Kenobi. (over the past year Bachman has started hanging out with The Man and his weekly liberty seminars at his Capitol Hill office)

  2. TNCath says:

Reminds me of that Serge Gainsbourg-Brigitte Bardot video of Gainsbourg’s campy song “Comic Strip.” “Shebam! Pow! Blop! Whiz!”

  3. Dave N. says:

She really does more harm than good.

  4. mattmcg says:

Ahh I love Rep Bachmann. She and Marsha Blackburn (Rep from TN) would make a groovy ticket. The Left hates well-spoken conservative women.. if you google Miss Bachmann you’ll find a real trove of mindless, wicked loathing

  5. This woman often says odd, unfounded things. You really want to be her fellow-traveler? Ugh.

  6. mattmcg says:

Timothy – Bachmann led a rally Thursday of 10,000 people against the horrible, poisonous health care bill, which would enshrine abortion, and then euthanasia as government-provided services. What did your own ‘fellow traveler’ do yesterday?

  7. Fr. A.M. says:

Forgive my ignorance, but who is that woman ? ‘Wonder Woman’ ????

  8. From Wikipedia:

“Bachmann is a member of a church that is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, whose doctrine teaches that the Roman Catholic papacy is the Antichrist identified in Scripture.[18]”

  9. mattmcg says:

Far be it from me to question the veracity of Wikipedia…
But many, many protestants would find similar anti-Romish sentiment in their founding documents and ‘official beliefs’. It doesn’t have anything to do with her value as a political leader (unless she is out whipping up No Popery sentiments)

Both Timothy and mattmcg make interesting points. Here’s a fairly good summary of the “Does Bachmann think the Pope is the Anti-Christ” debate from last year’s election in the journal “Charis,” a publication of Wisconsin Lutheran College, a WELS institution:

“According the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune (on October 30—just in time for Reformation and only a week before the election), during a live televised debate between two candidates for Minnesota’s Sixth District Congressional seat, WCCP reporter Pat Kessler said to Republican Michele Bachmann: “The church you belong to is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, which, it says, regards the Roman Catholic pope as the antichrist. Is this true? Do you share the views of your church? And why should any Catholic in the Sixth District vote for you if it is true?” Bachmann was reported to have called this charge “a false statement” and “religious bigotry.” She said: “I love Catholics. I’m a Christian, and my church does not believe that the pope is the antichrist. That’s absolutely false.” Bachmann spokeswoman Connie Siama added, “Good grief, that’s ridiculous.”

In short order, however, the Star Tribune referenced http://www.wels.net, which corroborates what Kessler alleged and Bachmann denied. “We thereby affirm that we identify this ‘antichrist’ with the papacy as it is known today,” the site explains, although “this neither means nor implies a blanket condemnation of all members of the Roman Catholic Church, for despite all the errors taught in that church, the Word of God is still heard there.”

In summary it seems that Bachmann doesn’t hold this position but that her church perhaps still does teach this. And since she apparently has spoken at least once in an event endorsed and supported by the Archdiocese: http://totustuuscyo.com/bna_09.html it would be nice to have this issue cleared up.
