People just wanted “change” and “hope” but didn’t realize the articulate man they were voting for was as extreme as he is!
Hopefully the election of Obama will wake up Catholic’s and the nation to the issue of abortion. The Bishops must take action in addressing “Catholic” Pro-Abortion politicians that amounts to something more than words.
I believe abortion to equal if not greater than the issue of slavery in the mid 1800s. I’m sure that statement will be categorize me as a loon by the MSM.
And let’s not forget infanticide. He has supported that, all be it not by name.

My mind is still spinning, unable to wrap itself around the idea that the pre-eminent Catholic university in America, Notre Dame, granted an Honorary Law Degree (really the highest honor such a college is able to bestow) upon the most pro-abortion, pro-late-term-terminator of babies, pro-death, pro-embryonic cell-research politician in American history!

Does anyone think it rather odd that thirty-six years after Roe v. Wade that we still have to turn to lay people to lead the fight against abortion? There are 180 ordinaries in this country and a total of 300 bishops (including auxiliaries). Does the subject even matter at this point? Treat it the same way we treat contraception in this country: The Church teaches that contraception is wrong. But most Catholics of child-bearing age are contracepting. So the response is………….. Obama has made it abundantly clear he is a non-believer. I laud him for his candor. I despise the plethora of Churchmen and Catholic laity who speak out of both sides of their mouths. “I am personally opposed to (fill in the blank), but I cannot force my beliefs on others”. I do a lot of business over lunch with business people of all backgrounds. I can assure you the subject of the Church or Catholicism never comes up in serious conversation.

The pro-life work of the Church in its political dimension is necessarily the work of the laity as beloved Pope John Paul II taught in “Christifidelis laici”. While the bishops are obliged to take position as well as decisions regarding the excommunicated with regard to abortion, the actual task in the political realm is properly the labour of Catholic laity.
I believe the definition of “personhood” and legislation defining genetic rights (one’s absolute right to and ownership of one’s own DNA genetic structure which may not be sold or assigned to another) is the area in which the rights of the pre-born can be established.
Professor George is filling the very large pro-life shoes left by the late Fr. Richard John Neuhaus. At the March for Life events, beside the Rose speech, George also spoke to a new national association for pro-life law students called Advocates for Life. Yes I said LAW students. When I would see Abp. Egan come out of the sanctuary at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at the “Kiss of Peace” at an important Mass, and offer Rudy Giuliani (pro-abortion, pro-same sex marriage) and George Pataki (pro-aborton) warm greetings to them in the first pew, I knew what the FSSP and the SSPX were revolting against. Abortion could have been stopped on the “one yard line” in this country by the Church, but many leaders, even today, have decided it is the lesser of two evils. There are a series of moral questions which the Church has to decide on, as you can’t have some Catholics with finely tuned consciences confessing something as sinful, while other Catholics do not consider the same behavior as sinful at all.

People in the (how far off?) future will look back as we do at slavery and say to themselves, “How could they not see that?” It seems to me the split may easily be described as, “They want to murder the unborn, we don’t”. From Lincoln’s second inaugural: ” Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-man’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether.” Every drop of blood drawn with the abortionist’s knife…
Professor George was an early member of the Board of Governors of Ave Maria School of Law. In that position, he acquiesced in the persecution and dismissal from the Board of Charlie Rice. He was also complict, if only by silence, in the firing of a tenured professor on trumped-up charges of sexual harrassment and of two other tenure-track professors whose only crimes were to exercise their proper role in the governance of the school in defiance of Tom Monaghan’s wishes. While my alma mater went to Hell by way of Naples, Florida, George’s only concerns were that his grant money keep flowing, that the student blogs stop picking on him, and that everyone know that he has tenure at Princeton.
Professor George is an eloquent speaker and writer on the life issues. He’s happy to defend life anywhere, anytime, as long as the check clears, and he always brings his own groupies. But he should not be in charge of anything. Let him speak, sure, but keep your hand on your wallet and don’t concede to him any decision-making authority.
